The ASLAV would be perfect for ARES cav units - whose role is protecting Defence assets in Australia and for the “marine light” first brigade. Which is what they were purchased for in the first place - high mobility in Northern Australia. There won’t be a major IED threat & they will be with other assets and if operated like the US marines anti armour weapons won’t be as big as a threat! Besides our mobile brigade will have a Kiwi battalion & they have upgraded LAV’s. Operations like Iraq and Afghanistan are in our past, and similar operations don’t appear to be part of our future. The ADF (army in particular) need to get used to the idea that the role is to deny access to our continent and off shore assets, and to protect our facilities. And considering our nearest neighbours to our north are non aligned they may not give us permission to stage our assets on their turf, if it means upsetting our huge friends to the north west.
