Thanks. This was really great. Just learning about this history. What a great music scene evolved in Liverpool (and Hamburg it seems). Crazy to see young Ringo playing with the Hurricanes. Rory clearly had a great voice and personality. Loved those short tunes, so tight. Thanks again.

My aunty Mary and Uncle Jim lived next door to the Harrisons. They were all good friends. Loads of girls used to camp outside so to avoid them, George would jump over the back wall and leave through my Aunty's house...

With respect he couldn't be openly homo. It wasn't legal in UK until 1967. He died then. He'd have been jailed before that. Ps Please don't fret about homo. May be the only one here that enjoyed Rory’s vocals. Band had an interesting sound, but from what I’ve heard so far, the songwriting was unremarkable.

Rory Storm and the Hurricanes. Rory who died over a half century ago is only world famous as the band that Ringo Starr played in before the Beatles took him away.

Saw Rory Storm and the Hurricanes in 1961 when they did a season in Butlins Pwllheli. They had a "Ringo Starr time" spot everynight and also ran a nightly competition with the final at the end of week. Unfortunately the `old folks` Dance band took over for the final - about a hundred of us teenagers walked out. Ringo stuck in my mind, if only because he was regularly chucked in the swimming pool during the day, so recognised him instantly when I heard the Beatles line up.

Having lived in old swan for my whole life (36 years) I had no idea they played in these places. Old Swan itself must be less than a mile in area can be walked through in less than a few minutes.. Iv obviously been to all these places, and great to know these local legends so close to home. ❤ This short lived club mentioned "The morgue" is just 2 minutes down the road from another well known club of beatles beginnings The casbah.

He wasn’t the greatest influence on the Beatles. Plus, he ripped them off. He had a gambling problem, allegedly. Do your own research

Talented self made man who suffered during his closeted life.

We lived just around the corner from Rory, and know all the places mentioned in the film. I was too young to be involved in the scene then, but I knew Rory from when he used to cut my hair at the Oakhill Road Barber's. Rory was a lovely bloke, and we looked up to him. Thanks for this lovely film, and I totally recommend Anthony's book, which is great.

Thanks for this film, it really took me back! I first met Alan Caldwell/Rory Storm when he flagged down my pal Gordon Robinson & I to get a lift to a garage, his car (I think it was a Sunbeam Rapier) was out of petrol. I met him many times after that, he used to come into a music equipment shop I worked at to get amps serviced, try new stuff out & so on & we often got chatting. He was a really nice bloke, we had interests in music, cars & athletics in common & he suggested I join his local harriers - I'd have loved to, but I lived across the river & it was too far away. I moved away from Merseyside in 1968 and was really depressed when I heard about Rory & his Mother's deaths in the early '70s. Most of the recordings don't do him or the Hurricanes justice; remember, signed bands like the Beatles recorded at top studios like Abbey Road on the world's best equipment, so comparisons between the two aren't like for like. Rory & the Hurricanes were a hell of a good live band & Rory was one of the best frontmen anywhere in his time. R.I.P.

Before seeing this, I wondered why he never took off to stardom as others did which he and band deserved? 🤔🧐 I still wonder right now (/-_•)\ Too rock n roll, not Mersey beat enough? LIke Pete Best? 🤔

When Brian worked at Nems in Walton Road he delivered my Pedigree pram to my mum and dad in Patmos Street in Everton Liverpool. He wheeled it from the shop to the house a fair distance. It was 1950 when I was born and he was 16 and working in the furniture and baby dept of Nems. My mum said she remembers him as a very pleasant and polite young man.

Rory Looks like a Guy from the 2000’s

I don't know if there is a big documentary, movie or series about Liverpool in this period, probably not, but there should be, because that was one of most powerfull and disruptive cultural movement in history, something like - but much more greater - the grunge in late 1980's, or the jazz in early 1920's. It was not only Beatles, there was a lot of rock'n roll and skiffle bands in a very exciting local scenario that would get all the world right few years later, changing the pop culture forever. I'd love to watch an imersive superproduction about it.

Brian had a hell of a lot of foresight that's for damn sure. He would go around London claiming the Beatles will be bigger than Elvis, and that was before they had a record contract, had a hit song, or even started writing hit songs. And later on before he died he said the Beatles would be popular for hundreds of years. Well here we are over 50 years after they broke up and they are more popular than ever

My late stepmother named "Tanga" (she was a Britain who grew up in Tanganyika in Africa) was Brian Epstein's secretary during their first visits to America - the crazy Beatlemania" period. There was a glimpse of her in newsreels of the groups first trip for the Ed Sullivan Show. In 1967 she sent my sister and I a photo of the group signed by all four Beatles. I treasure it to this day. And my understand is that it is worth a pile.

So in that made for TV thing called "The BIrth of the Beatles" the four lads were just strolling down the sidewalk one late night and Brian comes rolling out of the bushes, as you do, and the four lads knew instantly what was up, and he just says, "I'm terribly sorry lads".. and Lennon says, "It's o.k. Brian, any looov is good looooov". So I retell this story to my mates at their motorcycle shop in saaaf London, guv'nor! and they just fall apart laughting. I use my long practiced Scouser accent for Lennon's bit, but add a very pregnant pause between "any looov" and "Is good looov". Anyhow a guy calls them up and says, "Hello, I"m Brian from Livehpeewwwl" and they just crack up! True story!

Admit that the Cavern Club, as it exists today is A TOURIST TRAP! The stage THEY stood on is not really the one they have now. The same shit goes on in NYC regarding famous historic bars, clubs, etc. Notice NO original songs by them- while the Beatles flew by EVERY other group like a jet plane with their original works of pop genius!

I’m sorry this guy sounds terrible no matter the music. 🫤. But Ringo was a different story of course. He always had that distinctive style. He was just what the doctor ordered for the Beatles. It was like a can’t miss for sure when he joined the other 3 lads.
