Educating Boat Passengers On What To Expect
Thanks for beating around the bush
I as a fiberglass tech of 40 years and having been trained by Gougeon Brothers West System, Mini-Craft and many other fiberglass/gel workshops and technical courses, this video was very good at explaining a blistered boat, but I think you missed the boat on what causes the majority of blistered boats. I have repaired hundreds of blistered boats over the years and peeled complete hulls and epoxied many, many boats and all of my training has taught me that the blisters come from a boat that had uncured or improperly catalyzed resin that then, and because gel coat is porous, mixes with water and that in turn turns into a gas; the gas then expands and the weakest link is the gel coat. That is why a boat may have blisters. A void in the hull can get water trapped inside it and freeze in the northern states causing a blister but it is the exception rather than the rule. It’s the uncured resin and water that make a gas that primarily causes blistering.
I've seen much negative on bayliner cuddy cabins on the web as well but I broke down and bought a 37 year old (1987) ciera 2150 for $800 ANYWAY, WITHOUT A SURVEY OR A MECHANICAL INSPECTION! I wish I would have seen this video first but hell, I'm already out there onerniting, fishing, got a bedroom in the rear, dinette/sleeper in the front, bathroom and a kitchenette all in 21 feet..............just took that chance.
Ohhh ok so it would be a mini aluminum boat
Would it be considered a sport boat or cruiser boat but not a pontoon 12’ v hull boat with built outboard and steering console with 8hp motor Would that be considered a mini sport boat or mini speed or mini cruise Idk what to call it other than a small boat with a motor
Folks, you don't want to store a boat with an empty internal fuel tank. The tank can start to corrode over lengthy time. If your boat engine runs on unleaded gas, I recommend ethenol free and an octane rating of at 89/91. also, 2 cans of Seafoam and/or some Starbrite for gas treatment. Before boating season, I would change the water seperator filter (that thingy looks like an oil filter).

I just want to say thank you for all of the great information! We are about to be new boat owners in Ontario.
20% of the video is over and he hasn't told me how to tie a knot
KISS principle. Keep it simple stupid. I always ask the mechanics, and they prefer OB.
The best advice on purchasing a boat I ever heard is, don’t buy a boat!
Dont buy anything with out a leak down test, not a compression test.
Thanks for the lesson 😂 our first time out was a crash course for shore ..😅
If you angle the strakes or just a lip on outer edge it would stop water escaping from under pontoons and provide a lot more lift at lower speeds.

These steps are wrong. Step 1 is check your bank account.😂
Can a prop be changed while a boat is on a lift?
If you have a tandem or a triple and the suspension gets very load, (leaf spring type)check your equalizers as the holes may be egged out and will need replaced , also there is a new bearing buddy out there with blue inserts which tells you when to add grease !
Hang your tenders at the right height ight. But that is just the question as a new “boater” WHAT is the right height??
So my question would be if you take a long drive and don’t railed with a cover on how do you protect against potential rain storms you’d drive through? Are there products that help protect the cockpit mechanicals from stuff like that?
Y
Dialectric grease on the terminals and your connections helps prevent corrosion. Trailer hookups as well keeps moisture out
*Suzuki* of course! The hammer from Hamamatsu!
I need to send this video to the family of--I'm gonna say lobsters--that I caught a few weeks ago coming back to the ramp in a boat that had zero shade protection whatsoever. I hope they still have skin.
Won't Salt eat Aluminum? Yeah think so.
Your cleat hitch is incorrectly tied. Refer to Chapman's.
I have an 18 foot deep v has a battery switch and a master power switch on the dash. Would just turning off the master switch on the dash be good or turn off the battery switch itself?
ethanol is a giant scam designed to destroy lawn mowers and small engines it actually uses more energy to make it than just using gasoline government stupidity at its finest.
Just the video I needed. Thank you
Hi. I got a boat like a gift. I don't have the title of the boat. The previous owner send me by text the proof of sale. No signed. How can I register the boat.
Does anyone know what the usual market value for a boat with a Mercury 350 V8 around Southern California?
Another ten thousand
Before towing my boat, I put a box in the back of my truck, locked under cover, that contains all I can think of for towing. I call in the "Jack In The Box". Inflator, lug wrench, hub kit, jack, scotches, on and on. When I return home, the box goes on the bow of the boat. Wont trailer anywhere without the box! I have not needed it, but have encountered others who did! Win win!!
Our impeller failed 2 weeks ago on the water, no damage, noticed it at start up on the lake. Wasn't far out and came in with 2 trolling motors. That was the original impeller in a 1996 30hp Mercury. So, it lasted 28 years. Changed it at home last week, should be good for many more years, unless the quality of the impeller has dropped like every other modern day product.
Any thoughts or views on a 350 Mag Fuel Injected engine? Thinking about buying a great condition & well maintained 2004 Sea Ray 200 Select for $15000
Negative to positive
At a young age I had five different boats. Alumacraft competitor 19’ was my last one twenty years ago. I have been pricing new boats. Marijuana is now legal In Ohio. Boat dealers have taken full advantage of this.
Great Tutorial. Thank You
Pontoon boats fatalities happen over 3x as a regular boat.
I trim based off my GPS speed.
Great video. I loved it, but I could not stop looking at your chin and the 1 or 2 chin hairs u missed.
No force?!
*LIE #1 "There is shortage of used boat inventory" (If the video STARTS with a BLATANT lie... Keep searching.)*
I would have hoped for A LOT more detail on maintenance cost, some of which is actual fixed cost, as most engine require an annual (small) service regardless of the hours you put on them, as well as anti-fouling, which is different from winterization. Can anyone tell how much they are paying for maintenance on their modern 200-250hp outboards at 50 engine-hours per year? That is if everything is done by an OEM-certified tech.
Fantastic tips. For most of us, a boat is an”toy” and a not necessity. If we need to worry about gas price, it’s a toy we shouldn’t have. 👍🏼🇨🇦
How long is a long storage? If you use it in winter? For fishing here in the south.
Good advice. Got love ones tĥat prep boat while on boat ramp.
Inflatables need to be adjusted for user and take a bit more setting up. For general use emergency ones stored in cabin best use foam ones, easier to fit and adjust in an emergency.
