Hi, my name is Leander! I'm a product designer working in London. This is my first attempt at creating a CZcams video, and it's scary stuff! But the road toward improvement and 'greatness' has to start somewhere, so here we are. I hope to look back on this first stab one day, so I can see how far I've come.
So relatable🥲
Imagine if all professions had to do this 😆
If only 😂
Currently suffering from the Sunday scaries lol. Your videos have pushed me to take a leap of faith and bet on myself. Keep up the good work mate! Subscribed :)
Welcome! And trust me I know the feeling. So happy to hear you’re taking a chance! What is it? If you feel comfortable sharing.
one question, I like how you present your case study, but what if recruiter doesn't have time to read all of those text or what if they feel overwhelmed by the wall of texts? thank you
Great question, and often they won’t read it all! That’s why putting in bookmarks that outline the process is helpful. This way they can read some of it, while understanding the full process you used to arrive at your solution. I would say my case studies could be slightly shorter, but then again they’ve worked really well for me. There isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ answer here imo afraid. Try an approach, and gather feedback if it’s not working! Adapt from there 😊
@@leanderangst thanks man. u r the best
Thank u so much
I thought the introduction was great, without a doubt. Oh wait, I need my little bag to breathe. 🥴🥴🥴
Hii, I just wanted to say that your Archivd project link doesn't open on your portfolio
Man that was smooth.... is what i thought while you were presenting the ideas in the videos. Thanks for including the bts of the video hahaha, had a good chuckle. Very useful advice given. Thank you!
thank you and love you ❤
Everything is a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy .........
Hi, thanks for the video. I have created my portfolio according to your website. Could you please review it and give me your opinion?
I love the tempo of your teachings. I learned myself After Effects and Ps in a couple of months just by watching quick-paced tuts for 10 hours a day :P Now I make mixed media animations in a very specific style and I want to be able to build custom websites (ie a custom portfolio-website for myself) that go along with those type of animations very well. I'm always scared to learn the wrong programs but I have set my eyes on Figma + Webflow for now. The quality of your videos is really high, keep it up and you will grow and land sponsorships and stuff. My favorite Ae-tut channel is called Mapal and I started following him a couple of months ago when he had like 10k subs and he is now sponsored every video (which sometimes is quite annoying tbh :) and at 70k. Keep going, you clearly enjoy making these as much as we are watching.
To give you some ideas: What made that dude Mapal successful was videos of the type: "How to edit like ..." <- Vox/Johnny Harris/Iman Gazdi/etc. I don't know if this type of vid is possible with web/appdesign though.
Great portfolio! I just can't believe how one person can do all that research and design by themselves :D And I just realized I'm only a UI Designer, not a UX Designer. And I can't even share my portfolio publicly because most of them aren't even out yet :(
Hi Leander, this was really insightful! Thank you so much for the video on this and going into a lot of depth on the topic. For my previous career I was a UX/UI Designer for 2 years before going full time with my CZcams channel back in 2019. I am still running the CZcams channel full-time currently, but at I am looking into stepping back into the UX/UI world potentially at some point. As a former professional with some experience in UX/UI, how would you recommend getting back into the industry? Would a bootcamp be helpful in sharpening skills and getting back into the job market? Thanks!
You've helped me so much; I can't believe you don't have more subscribers! You're so good at being relatable and funny while simultaneously getting to the point and teaching, which is lovely to have as a beginner. You're amazing; please keep making videos!
Thank you so much!! Happy to hear it’s been helpful, that’s the goal 😊
wish I had ideas to begin with
thank you bro, I really needed this
nice summary! it took me a long time to learn that your portfolio doesn't need to be "crazy". In fact, the more clean, simple and neutral you keep it, the wider the audience of people it will speak to and not distract from your work. I think especially new designers go into it thinking they have to reinvent the wheel and overthinking a lot of things. It really helped me to just look at some senior designer portfolios and build mine based off what I could see worked well.
This video is inspiration added to my list of inspirations, on to the next sources of inspiration 😂
Hahaha love this 😂
In the portfolio that grey font is not visible. that is too light. So, you lost the accessibility.
You have a new subscriber! 🤍The content and explanations you provide are very refreshing for someone who is just starting out in design. Thank you very much for the tips and tools! Greetings from Mexico 🙏
Wow. How lucky to have stumbled upon this. I have been going through the EXACT same feelings as you when you were in Boston/New York. Thank you for vocalizing what has been tumbling in my brain for a while now.
So happy to hear this. I hope it’s encouraging and wish you luck on the journey!
Oh my god thank you so much for this!!
Hello, good afternoon, I have a question, I am from Colombia and I am studying ux ui and I know a little English but not enough to make video calls with users, would that harm me when it comes to getting clients?
11:33 The title of the block and the paragraph seems a little close.
These videos are great thanks!
I'm glad you're finding them useful! Thanks for watching :)
Hi! Did you actually build the website from scratch on webflow or you imported it from your figma design?
I built it from scratch, took a nice long while so wouldn't necessarily recommend that route. Figma now has an 'import to Webflow' plugin that's worth checking out. OR you can copy an existing Webflow site and us that as a template to save lots of time.
Excellent advice. Subscribed.
Welcome aboard!
Amazing video as always.... I first learned how to use figma and tried to get myself used to it before hoping into the UX part .... But yeah, wish I had come across your video at that time so I could speed things up for myself because I did all that on my own and it can get pretty frustrating in the beginning
Never too late to improve, glad you found me when you did! Stick with it :)
hy sir i am currently leaning UI/UX design and like you told in this video to create effective UI you have to do practice now i am going to practive those but the feeling i am facing these days is if i learn anything it still feels like it is not enough it feel like you are not gonna make it in this field what can i do Now i am learning about typography but still i am confused 😔
YOU HAVE TO POST 7 TIMES A DAY!!! Loved this video, so detailed, thank you Leander😊
Ahh thank you so much! Glad to have you here and so happy the content is helping :)
Nice video! thanks
Love from India, this was a superb video. Please upload more!
Thank you! It's on my to-do list to upload more frequently :) Stay tuned!
Could you make a video of creating a portfolio in figma, please
Good luck 🤞🏻
subscribed in starting 30 seconds 😅 OP intro
Haha glad you enjoyed it! Welcome to the family!
Exactly! although other says inspiration but to you is copy and I agree
less face, more ui
Hello Leander, very honored to learn from you. Im a beginner changing fields from Auto mechanic disabled,, to learning UI Designer ,AI skillls. Figma first understood. Where does Webflow fit in the process of things ?I ask because you mentioned Figma is the tool.. Please keep the training Videos coming , You do have students and subscibers out here. The shortcut buttons explained help out alot. Thanks ..Jay
I am very interested in the ux ui design but I don't have any experienced person or a mentorship. I really need help
Thank you so much for this great Tip... I am learning UX/ product design and m struggling in whiteboarding the thoughts .. please make a viedo on that. You are doing a good job by sharing these simple yet effective tips.. Thanks you once again
Thank YOU for watching, so glad you're finding it helpful it's really nice to hear :)
Thanks for suggesting Mobbins.. its cool. I signed up free version with your link to try.
This is great! I have copied a few screens before to practice using Figma but I like how you added a layer of asking yourself why and being able to learn from that angle too. Thanks so much :)
You bet! Glad it was helpful :)
Do I need to have a portfolio website to showcase my work? Does portfolio document work equally effectively? I’m so confused as to what should be my medium 😭
Great question - anything that you can put on your LinkedIn profile and share when you apply for jobs will do the trick! You don't necessarily need a website, you can host case studies on Dribble, Behance, etc... I just wanted a website so I could show that I designed & built that too, as a supporting piece of work to make my application stand out :)
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching :)
Hi, I stumbled upon your video randomly. My ui designs suck making them unappealing to look at.This video shed some light on to focus my self more to UX.Thank you. I just have 1 question. It is just that I always seem to have a blank mind when it comes to looking for inspiration in web design.I feel like I’m cheating and don’t know how I should draw inspiration like do I copy the whole layout or the only the graphic elements only. Can you do a video on how to create a website by using inspirations like on exactly how should we draw inspiration with a example?
Your UI can always get better - use the copying method I talked about here to practice, it honestly helps SO much. Copying isn't cheating - obviously don't copy everything exactly, but use elements from other websites that you like and make them your own! Great suggestion for a video, will absolutely do that!
@@leanderangst Thank you
Great idea, I’ve started from today using this method. One question is that mobbin’s screen shots are large, would it be ideal to scale down to the base pixel size so you can assess their metrics better? E.g I went with a iPhone 13 & 14 frame size
Yes 100% - great point actually. Better to scale them down to an iPhone 14 pro size 😊
Those intros are incredible haha
😂
Ahhh its so hard to build your portfolio... Yesterday I bought a domain and hosting for my portfolio... decided on a Wordpress theme... and now I don't know where to start even with a template... I can't imagine how u did everything from scratch...
The best place to start, is to start :) Get something on paper! You can ALWAYS change it later, but putting something tangible in place will give you peace of mind and something to focus on.
Where do you get some case study samples for guidance or inspiration??
Try UXfolio, Uxcel and Growth.Design! Those are just a few :)
