Texan and grew up on a farm. The tree rows around farmland are intentional, I believe the modern term for them is shelterbelts, but essentially they are used to prevent land erosion and reduce the severity of wind damage to crops. I usually see a mix of either Texas persimmon or osage orange and live oak, and its not unusual to see mesquite and dogwood mixed in to fill in the undergrowth. In areas of severe wind, further north and along the jet stream corridor, you'll find tree rows on berms (dirt built up into mounds/rows).
