Class song Rourkey
It was on one fine March morning when I bid New Orleans adieu And I was on the road to Jackson town, my fortunes to renew I cursed all foreign money, no credit could I gain Which filled my heart with longin' for the Lakes of Pontchartain I sat on board a railway car beneath the morning sun And I rode the rails 'til evening when I laid me down again All strangers there, no friends to me 'til a dark girl towards me came And I fell in love with a Creole girl on the Lakes of Pontchartrain I said, "My pretty Creole girl, my money here's no good If it weren't for the alligators I would sleep out in the woods." "You're welcome here kind stranger. Our house is very plain But we never turn a stranger out on the Lakes of Pontchartrain." She took me out to her mama's house and treated me right well The hair upon her shoulders in jet black ringlets fell To try to paint her beauty I'm sure would be in vain So handsome was my Creole girl on the Lakes of Pontchartrain I asked her would she marry me. And she said it never would be For she had got another and he was off at sea She said that she would wait for him and faithful she'd remain Waiting for her sailor on the Lakes of Pontchartrain So fair thee well my bonny old girl. I may never see you no more I won't forget your kindness in that cottage by the shore And at every social gathering a golden glass I'll drain And I'll drink all health to the Creole girl on the Lakes of Pontchartrain
Some words wronh
Thank you ❤
Best cover version 👌 😍 ❤ 💕
Does anyone know which Nat era this is? is it from the Come to Life recordings?
Sounds like they just rewrote Cavan girl
lagu kesukaanku. salam dari pulau bali
Anyone have a link to this on Spotify?
Can’t get it on Spotify
What a sappy version, over reaching for emotions that ain't there. A silver spooned gobeen trying to talk of sorrow. The one and only version belongs to Paul Brady.
lol yeah because wealthy people can't experience emotion. good take.
@@SonicWarpath I didn't say wealthy people don't experience emotion? I'm just not fond of his accent which is far to accented in his singing voice. And in this instance it doesn't work in my opinion. The point I'm making is he doesn't relate enough to the experience of the writer of the tune to actually sing it in an authentic way. If the emotional sentiment is second hand, you must at least relate. It doesn't feel like he does to me. Sorry.
Chuaigh mé go dtí an siopa agus cheannaigh mé ispíní
Iontach ar fad!
I luv dis song guys

One of my favourites ❤
probally the best cover of this song out there
Check out Aileen and Sticks version, well it's Aileen on guitar and singing....class
The body of water at lake Pontchartrain is even in elevation from one land mass to the other. If there was a deviation in elevation from any given starting point upon the surface, the body of water will flow. The claim that you live on a globular earth neccessitates that every body of water you have ever experienced is declining in elevation in ALL directions from you WITHOUT FLOWING. DISCLAIMER: No claims are made here in regards to certain knowledge of earth's full dimensions.
Cretin.
^ Weak cretinous response Where's the measurable proof for the globe concept lickspittle?
I think this is the best cover of this
ever heard of Paul Brady? go read a book u moron
who on earth gave these lads a record deal
Soneone a lot smarter than you and he's making a fuck load of cash for it.
every time I listen to this version after years and years it gets me, I just love it.. no disrespect to the planxty version atall atall
minus 1000 miles is 1000 miles by vanessa carlton Natalie ♥ I prefer Pretenders version
Where is the feeling in this song.. no offence but chrissies original is not to be tampered with entirely unnecessary cover but if it brings people to the original then that's cool.
Sweet version but KT Tunstall have the best cover :) minus 1000 miles is 1000 miles by vanessa carlton
I love it so much ❤️ just makes me smile ❤️
What a shit version
Decent version but not close to Paul Brady’s
No offense to those who love Christy or Paul's version of this ( I love them too) but this fella sounds like he might have been the one who was there. His voice has a quality that recalls some of the American singers gets collected by the likes of Alan Lomax.
You must be joking, Christie Moore, generally over-rated IMO, but Paul Brady's version cannot be bettered, certianly not by this.
😕
Still prefer Paul Brady's.
Hold on this isn’t Irish ?????? 😮😮😮😧😧
Oonagh O Ferrall it is not ment to be as gailge
Its from Southern USA, the story of a Civil war Soldier.
talk about cultural appropriation. I'm so triggered right now bruh
sucks
Totally disagree. Amazing cover. Don't hate. Let's see you try to do it better LOL
Best Superbowl ad, and best song ever about a lake!
Best version of this song imo..love it.
oh God no... fair play to the lads for giving it a go but his voice doesn't suit it!
I agree. Paul Brady or Christy Moore get my vote.
It's the silver spoon rattling around his mouth as he tries to sing words of poverty and sorrow.
Might be my new favourite version of this.
Where is the feeling in this song..
If you have ever travelled the back roads of the country at night, this song kicks with feeling!
Everyday on the doorstep..... Love it
if it wasn't for all the alligators I'd sleep out in the woods.
To try and paint her beauty i would be in vain
boaunceh
Fabulous voice brilliant song
Its mary whites son,and francis' nephew id say if he wasnt able to sing theyd send him back! Lol
have heard many versions of this song but this is one of the best by far dylan's version bob that is doesn't hold a candle to it.
pat wheler bob dylans version for how good the man is is terrible!
Paul Brady's version is perfection
