The de t5820 is tricky. I bought one that had 4 sata flexbays. I thought just buying the dell m2 nvme flexbay would work. You also have to buy a backplane for the nvme flexbays after taking out one of the 2 sata backplanes. The cables for the nvme flexbays fit to some connectors in the motherboard, plus the heat sensor cable. So, know your stuff for this model. Also the is a sas backplane i believe. I may resort to a pci card solution if the above is too much work as well as potential added costs

Love the video, do think this is pretty pricey especially once you populate the drive pools too but....I am a self-confessed Unraid fanboy with 3 currently running in my house....I dont get what you mean about the storage creation being bad...you can configure seperate pools(or as standalone drives), you can have extra(or no!) parity drives...I think you could have explained a bit about the parity system...apologies this is one of the first of your videos Ive watched and I did enjoy it, but perhaps I dont know the level of your members/subscribers when not really explaining that part. Again though I really did enjoy the video...I do wonder why manufacturers are so drawn to creating things with flashing/pulsing lights that do nothing, and cant be turned off!!

For me the SSD cache is not for improving performance. The SSD cach lowers the noise because alls the files Download Station, the home drives and all stuff my family mostly ready but rarly writes are now an the SSD cache. The whole system is much quieter with ssd cache. I would never expect that the ssd would make any difference unles maybe you have MANY user accessing the system at the same time. On another note. Of course the RAM upgrade make hardly any difference for normal operations. But if you are running a lot of stuff in cirtual machines/docker containers the 4GB it came with just does not cut it. Long story short: for me the RAM upgrade and the SSD cache made a notable difference - just not in the way you might expect. Bottom line: after 3 years of service I'm still impressed with the 920+

You can still use ESXi, assuming you have kept the ISO's and your keys, which i have. I decided to give Proxmox a go last month an after being a VMware admin for 9 years i found it fairly easy to get to grips with it. There were a few things i had to google such as the ISO storage !. Personally i have found it very good and on comparable hardware im noticing lower CPU use and lower RAM use compared to ESXi running exactly the same VM's.

  • @alQamar79

@2guystek thank you for putting this together. The console for Hyper-V is PowerShell. Being present in any Windows OS and allows the local or remote management of Windows Server and Hyper-V and pretty much everything from Microsoft. Lately you could also use SSH. Hyper-V is not discontinued. The Support end date depends on the OS version of Windows Server 2022 or Azure Stack HCI, with Windows Server 2025 being released later this year expanding it by another 10 years. Hyper-V is the tech that's running on Windows 10/11/Xbox for security. And most importantly whole Microsoft Azure Cloud. Mangement options via MMC are odd and clunky. All inbox mangement tools stopped in development from Windows Server 2012 R2. Intention was to use Windows Admin Center via Azure Portal or Windows Admin Center VM. Hyper-V also is pretty much optimized in terms of management for HCI / S2D. That's why even Windows Admin Center cannot shine in terms of monitoring and metric with just Hyper-V and having seperate storage like SAN. On switching, same applies, Hyper-V Networking is overly not configured in the old console. You are right it's handled by the OS via Hyper-V driven SET switch. This is used for teaming even when you do not use any Hyper-V VMs. Hope this helps. I don't blame you or anyone for not knowing certain details and being grateful you are trying to get yourself familiar with this tech.

one bad for the Hyper-V is that it is not a good way to install a Microsoft AD domain controller in it, as Hyper-V needs to join the AD domain. I don't like it. the good for the Hyper-V is that I can have a good plan to move it to Azure Cloud (vhd disk)

    • @alQamar79

If you come out on day 1 in competition with yourself , offering free scaled down personal solutions that directly compete with your paid business model , what do you think will happen to the value of your Paid solutions . it will be consistently undermined and in conflict with your business model.
