Super Aliens fan here…. I listened to the HBO release of this as a child from behind the couch as my parents enjoyed it in a dark living room, they told me I was too young. I rejected that opinion. Since then I’ve entered the 100s in times viewed. Regarding a theatrical cut vs extended? They cut the extra content over studio politics claiming long movies don’t do well. Cameron even states in his opening note on the blu ray, “this was the film I wanted to make and put out.” Hudson wasn’t a coward… he just whined a lot. When it came time to perform he died doing what he was trained to do. Burke was a metaphor for corporate America surely…. Pleasing and reassuring when you meet him, by the end, we can see clearly he’d be fine watching everyone die to either get rich or to save his own hide. Bishop’s redemption by the end kind of reflected that A.I. could be good or bad. If managed by Burke? Bad. If managed by Ripley? Good. Burke’s filmed scene where he was cocooned into a wall was delightful. Ripley hands him a grenade or a gun (can’t remember) and he kills himself while Ripley is looking for Newt. This wasn’t in any cut but it is available in itunes extras and most bluray editions. Weaver was a rockstar powerhouse of good acting. Get the UHD and look at the expressions on her face when they enter the “cleared” complex. I never noticed how amazing her fear translates on screen as her eyes widely survey the hallway as the Marines lead. The fear in her face… man. Looked like a mouse about to be eaten by the cat. Outstanding actress. Regarding the face huggers. For the med bay scene? They literally filmed it and played a lot of it backwards to get the shots they wanted. Yep. The ground suv to transport the marines? Some kind of vehicle used at a dock or something. It was a random place and a real vehicle I know that… They did not design it from scratch, I know that. 45 year old brain is failing me on this one. Something not as often talked about? James Horner had two and a half weeks to compose and record the soundtrack because Cameron pushed it back so far. Cameron was obsessed with getting the gun sound design right and that alone took a month longer than anyone expected I think. Yeah, when Horner got to the studio it wasn’t equiped for electronic sounds as much as Horner wanted, so the working conditions were limiting as well… Regardless, Horner pulled it off and him and Cameron didn’t speak until Titanic. It was that stressful. The interview with Horner is jaw dropping… 12 minutes long and it blows your mind. The way the climactic action cue was written? They were under deadline to get the final cut out in less than 72 hours and he was just getting started. lol. They used it for more trailers than any other piece ever… it was that good. You should look it up. Futile Escape I think was the title? They have a live performance that’s jaw dropping on a good system. And for the grand treat? Cameron literally told the production crew off at the end of it all… and I’m paraphrasing here, but “I’m going to move onto a bright future, back to Hollywood, and enjoy blah blah blah… but all of you? Will still be here.” He was really pissed at the production crew… they took too many breaks, wanted to eat too often, and Cameron just wanted to go-go-go. He hated it. The London crew had a lot of laws that protected their time though. Cameron’s top was blowing the whole time cause he knew the deadlines and time was not on his side. Meanwhile… “time for tea!” lololol Hope you guys buy the UHD Special Edition on disk… revisit this. You’ll be grateful.

To me, the Special Edition is the only way to watch Aliens now, especially after Alien Isolation. To me, this movie is the greatest sci-fi and one of the Top 3 sequels ever made. Sigourney Weaver shouldve won Best Actress. Thanks to James Cameron's writing and Sigourney Weavers acting, Ellen Ripley is one of the greatest, strongest, most iconic female characters ever put on film. The first movie is great, no doubt. But it definitely does not have the same rewatch value that Aliens has. Thats one of the handicaps of a suspense-driven movie. We know exactly whats coming before it comes. All of a sudden, all of the build up to the scare moment is lost. Since Cameron makes us care more and more about his characters in Aliens, especially Ripley, Newt and Hudson, we never stop worrying about what happens to them. For Aliens to keep people coming back to watch these characters makes it far more timeless. We dont go back to watch The Wizard of Oz for the yellow brick road, all of the colors or the scary witch. All of that stuff can become dated on their own. We go back to Oz to experience Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion and of course the Scarecrow.

Sorry to any fans out there, but both versions of Alien 3 are a big waste of time. They destroy all three main characters in Aliens. They replace Newt and Hicks with the most unlikable characters imaginable. Heck, some of them even try to assault Ripley. And we're supposed to care if they live or die? No f**king way. And in the same movie, Ripley spreads eagle for the first ex-con she sees. WTF? And they showed absolutely no originality by making an Alien born from an ox.

I still dont understand how true Cameron fans can trash Avatar or Titanic. Its Cameron's Star Wars saga. If people would take the nostalgia glasses off, they would see that Star Wars and Avatar have some of the same so-called flaws. Theyre both unoriginal. George ripped off a lot of elements from other fairy tales and sci-fi stories. But he doesnt have the perfect eye for a shot, a scene or a sequence that James Cameron has. George had John Williams to make Star Wars timeless and magical. James Cameron has his visionary skills. He is a master filmmaker and George is lucky. You can see how much of a master George is NOT by watching The Phantom Menace. Cameron showed us how magical a fully realized CGI world could be with Avatar. Where George gave us flat, uninspired shots against a green screen in the prequels, Cameron transported us to Pandora with the most perfect and dynamic camera work in a fully CGI world that weve ever seen.

Before you praise Sigourney Weaver too much, also remember she ruined 3 and the rest of the series. She was seriously anti-gun, so if she had had the clout she had later, Aliens wouldn't even exist. She was all for getting rid of Hicks and Newt in 3, Ripley dying at the end, and obviously having no guns at all. She was a producer now, and had a pay or play contract, so she was going to get paid even if 3 didn't get made. She insisted on the "sex scene" with the aliens in 4. Horrible choices.

This movie was awesome!

I'm glad this podcast isn't one of those timely professional channels that turns out episodes every week or every other week. I'm quite content only seeing new content every time Saturn goes retrograde and for all those science denying flat earthers out there, that's approximately once per year. Some would say it's quality over quantity, but I don't know what those people would say about this channel. It's like watching Henry Fonda pick blueberries.

I was feverishly scouring the interwebs for some good old fashioned sadomasochistic porn one lonely evening and I stumbled across this podcast about 4 virgins talking about movies. As someone who is well versed in deriving sexual gratification from one's own pain or humiliation, I gave it a whirl. Even I found this podcast too painful and humiliating. It made me instantly yell out my safe word, "BORING!!".

I like the microphone you guys used when you score the movie with VHS tapes and film reels. It didn't enhance the sound quality one bit and it isn't phallic at all. We heard you fine for 50 minutes and then you decided to talk into a penis for the last 15 minutes. I give that decision 5 VHS tapes for enjoyment factor.
