    Hello. First I got the light on when noone was sitting in the seat, then when someone was sitting in it the light turned off.. So I disconnected the seat and opened it to see the sensor and it was cracked. Ordered a new one from Benz immediately, was driving with passanger seat completely disconnected for 2 weeks. Today I received my new sensor and installed it, connected it but light is still on. But this time permanent, regardless if there is a passenger or not. Do you have any idea what that can be? Do I need some sort of calibration because the sensor is new ? I have not tried to disconnect the battery, just parked the car smoked a cigarette and started the work. Today after the installation the seat was connected to power for the first time in 2 weeks. Thank you for the video and possible advice.

      Hi, did you disconnect the battery when you unplugged the seat sensor? If you unplug any part of the srs system the ecu logs it as an srs system fault which needs to be cleared by someone with the correct obd tool. Any time you work on the srs system always disconnect the battery. After fitting the new sensor on my car I had no warning lights, it's been about 6 months now and still all good.

      @andybowie8590 Thanks for quick answer ! No I did not disconnect the battery, just unplugged all seat connectors and took the occupancy sensor out. It strange that with a faulty sensor the srs light came on and off depending on if where was a passanger or not, and now with a brand new sensor it's permanent regardless...

    No idea but I've seen cars less than 10 years old with pretty bad rust so who knows. A lot depends on whether they salt the roads in winter where you live. Scotland is worse than England

    Can’t you just apply anti corrosion to the mx-5 ?

    An mx5 in Greece costs 46.000 the full extra automatic version. The basic z4 20i with automatic transmission costs 68.000. It's too much of a difference. If the basic z4 was at 55-60.000 euro spectrum then yes z4 is better

    I did supercharged my NA 1.6 and it's a complete blast to drive now and bloody quick would love a Z4 too, both great cars imo. had a 986 for a while and sold it to keep my MX5 just because the Mazda was so much more fun than the porsche, i think the Z4 would of been a better car to suit my driving style...cheers

    Had to sell my 2006 mx5 for chips because of corrosion. It was such a shame cause I loved the little thing and it was mechanically solid as could be. I'm considering a z4 now.

      Honestly speaking, rust/corrosion it is a knowing issue at all Mazda line, corrosion can be repaired at a cost if you love the MX-5. The Z4 is a VERY good car from all points compared to MX-5, however it cost almost twice the MX-5 :/. I would repair the corrosion on the MX-5 if it is not too crazy expensive. or change the MX-5 color.

    Putting your hand in a pack of biscuits haha. Good description mate. Rust is the biggest negative for me. Rust is a constant thing to stay on top off. I own a vw T4 that's 25yrs old and I know Rust very well. Food for thought mate, I am musing between a z4 or mx5.

    Very true about how frustrating it is needing to overtake with the Mx5. It's quick enough when you're on your own trashing it, but someone doing 60mph on the only straight it lacks grunt to get past before they slow you down in the next corner.

    Mine has no mods to the engine but still it missfires

    • @andybowie8590

      Well my plan of attack was to start with the easiest and cheapest things first. Spark plugs are cheap and although its a bit of a faff getting into them it's not too hard. After that I'd buy one ignition coil and try it on each cylinder in turn, again not expensive just time consuming. Vacuum leaks are another possibility but there's a lot of small rubber hoses at the back of the engine and it isn't easy to see them all, I checked the ones I could see but to do it properly you could borrow a smoke generator or take it to a garage thats got one, cracked or split hoses are a definite possibility on an older bike. If none of those had fixed mine im not sure what my next move would of been. Sorry my video was no help, hope you get it sussed mate, as you know they're great bikes when they're going the way they should

      @@andybowie8590 ive checked for vaccum leaks, new plugs, different set of coils, tested all sensors, exup is working good but still bike missfires.

    • @andybowie8590
      @andybowie8590 Před 3 lety

      @@Yamaprilia if you've done all that (including crank sensor?) It doesn't leave much. My problem was the fuel pump was cutting out intermittently, as I said that was down to the immobiliser but the fuel pump relay could give you the same symptoms or even the pump itself could be going bad. To check its running properly you could stick a 12v led in the back of the pump power connector making sure its + and - are the right way round and then if it flickers off when the engine is running you'd know its losing its power supply. Beyond that your guess is as good as mine. Maybe try swapping an ecu from a bike you know is running if you knew someone locally that has the same year r1. I take it you know the fuel is good, no water getting into the tank for example (check the overflow drain hole inside the filler is clear) especially if the bike gets rained on, and I take it its not stale fuel from sitting off the road for months or anything as simple as that?
