Scots Guards Miniband (1920): Two selections

Here's quite an interesting recording which is the most recent bagpipe recording digitized on Archive.org. This record was made in 1920, but apart from that, William Deanmyatt the Scottish discographer doesn't include a date. Even worse, all it says is "Pipes and Drums of the Scots Guards", with no clue at all who the piper is. There's no Google search result when I typed in "Pipe Major of Scot...

Here’s an old record by Pipe Major Andrew Macintosh (born in 1891), a notable Pipe Major in the Scots Guards starting in from 1917. The only evidence we have as far as the date is concerned is just the year, 1918, and it was produced on Imperial / Bulldog records. Being 1918, this record is quite interesting. First of all, given that this recording predates omnidirectional recording, being from...

Literally I thought of including videos (instead of just audio files on a black background which I've always done) just to attract more subscribers. Thing is, as a blind person I've never been able to make videos 'cause I obviously can't see, and I'm not living with anyone who can help me with the camera and all that. And I learned the hard way most people are more reactive to visual stuff which is a definite BOO in the blind world. Plus, as I mentioned to someone else, this wasn't a recording I made but it was on a hard-to-find Facebook page run by Italian pipers which only Italians or Italian bagpipe fans will ever find. Trying to make a wrongly-kept secret known by uploading this to reach out to wider audiences because nobody would otherwise know how insanely cool Italian bagpipes are, compared to Scottish Highland pipes. So if it can only be found on a niche Facebook page and wrongly kept a frickin' secret, why not upload it to YT? The only thing I hate about Italian bagpipes is that it's a wrongly kept secret NOT MEANT TO BE SECRET!

Hello this registration was made in Nuoro, a town of Sardinia in the month of april in 1950 by the RAI and by the teacher of etnomusicology Giorgio Nataletti. The voices were: Tziu Chischeddu Arzesi the voice, the mesu boche was Tziu Bustianu Mattana, the bassu was Tziu Jubanne Battaglini and the cronta was Tziu Zoseppe Todde. I want also to say that this tipe of music is a patrimony of UNESCO.

The boche is the main voice that exposes the poetry text and the mesu boche is another voice that goes in falsetto. @@michaelkazmierskidunn7189 I totally agree. Same goes for all the other cool bagpipe varieties. Just off the top of my head I recommend listening to bagpipes from the banat region of Serbia. They are great too and have an extremely unique sound. If you search Banatske Gajde You may find something. There are so many great bagpipes that are left in the dark. It’s a shame. And I hate the fact people always bring it back to Scotland or the idea they are somehow Celtic. I remember reading an article by a Ukrainian man who was the last man to preserve the Hutsul Duda and even he bought into the stupid idea the oldest bagpipes are Scottish. Which is such a shame considering his tradition is just as old if not older and preserves far more unique archaic characteristics. I applaud your efforts to bring Italian bagpipes to a larger audience. I love the very obscure archival recordings you’ve uploaded.

@@DGR233 OMG BEST COMMENT EVER!!!!!!!!!!! Since 2020 I also love Serbian bagpipes (not just from getting Sean Folsom's 'Bagpipes Around the World' album for Christmas 2008), but I bought a used copy of The Ace and Deuce of Pipers from another guy. Bit afraid to upload it because of copyright issues, but still. But you're right, bagpipes from most non-English-speaking countries are wrongly kept secrets that should not be secret. That's why zampogne are the worst kept secrets ever because nobody else knows about these AMAZING bagpipes!!!!!!! But there's tons of English-written material on Serbian bagpipes anyway, so I feel like the Serbians are doing a better job at reaching out to wider audiences. But the poor Lucanians, not yet. And the notion that bagpipes are originally Scottish is also total nonsense. That's why I'm the most passionate about these things.

WOAH!!!!!!!!! HOLY MAZZILLO!, Elena!!!!!!!! It's THE BEST, FEELING, EVER!!!!!! to finally hear back from you!!!!!!!! This rarely happened before where I'd hear back from the person I'm reacting to!!!!!!!!!! Since I subscribed to you back when I discovered you, it would be super cool if you could return the favor and follow me back! Plus, if you stay up to date you'll hear some super amazing stuff you've never even heard before. Like for example, get this! Have you ever heard a 1907 recording of Italian bagpipes? Most likely not. ItWhat about Sardinian throatsinging? It's all on there!!!!!!!!!

WHY DID THIS COMMENT GET DELETED!!!! Someone said: "It's tremendous. That one needs a chariot to transport and a compressor to run. As for the sound, well..." My reply would've been: LOL.

Glad you LOVE it!!!!!!!! Otherwise this is a wrongly kept secret that nobody will ever know about, so it's my goal to uncover wrongly lost music. In the description you'll see the link to the whole album in a playlist.
