Same thing with my motor. Had a misfire and had to get the wires and plugs changed.

Tohatsu outboard does not get gasoline into the cylinders. The injector, ecu, spark plugs are intact. When I pour gasoline into the pistons, it works a little. When you press the starter, oily gasoline comes out of the exhaust. Greetings from Turkey..

wouldnt that be safer to have the water supply from the hose in the back rather than ear muffs.those motors dont run cool with ear muffs at that high rpm

nice engine but please dont rush around with the video so much...take your time and stand back some so the entire engine can be viewed..toward the end you at last showed all the torque converter housing set up; had to pause the video..slow down

Another technique is to get a timing light with a tachometer and clip the pickup to each spark plug wire to see if the rpms on each plug match.

If you really want it to push that pontoon, consider trying to fit a bigger lower unit on there that'll take a 14" prop.

Shouldl it move that easy when it's still connected to the lines that go back into the boat (like if you disconnect the rod from the pivot pins in the front and rear and just have it hanging by the lines but not disconnected)?

Hello, i have a 1983 mercury TOP 90hp - we notice that the idle speed is very low and once in reverse going slow or in neutral for a extended period of time the engine will shut off. If I tighten the screw you did in the video will that raise my idle speed so going in reverse at slow speeds and staying in neutral the engine wont shut off? thanks for the help! great video by the way.

I tried this on a 250 mercury when the starter broke. I saw the emergency rope inside the cover and thought if it wasn’t possible they wouldn’t have put the rope in there. I couldn’t put that bitch over fast enough! I figured maybe they intended it as a two person job. After watching this I feel very weak 😂

These were great engines, durable, simple, rugged, and reliable.

That engine should be running a little hotter than normal if its firing that much.

The better compression a motor has the harder it will be so that's a good problem to have

The DVA used on this video is similar to Dangar Marine DVA.? I have checked my 1994 115 hp Evinrude and on all 4 cylinders reading was about 30/40 Volts. Engine Manual calls for 150 and up for that measure using a load resistance.

Where was the tell tale? I burned up the top cylinder that way. Water came out but not high enough to fill the block completely.

very helpful, have determined my vro pump is bad on my 2001 johnson 90 hp, so I started looking for videos of motors with bad vro pumps to see how they acted. mine acts just like this, so I guess, 500 dollars will fix it! thanks
