My dad...Loyd Cress....was on the USS Oklahoma on December 7th, 1941. His brother was there as well but was on shore when the attack began. I remember asking dad how he first learned of the attack because he was four decks down . He said "well they came over the loud speaker and we are being attacked by Japansee planes. This is no fucking drill. My response "wow...they had that word back then? He just laughed and said well sure. My dad passed away a few years ago at the of 93. A part of the greatest generation. I spent 4 years in the Marine Corps myself but it was all peace time then.

Retellings of Communist investigations in the 50s are always skewed to make it seem like an unjustified, right wing, witch hunt. They always leave out the Hollywood investigations were led by a Democrat, Roy Brewer, not a Republican, and leave out that there totally were Communists in Hollywood and the government, and that some of these communists were totally working with the USSR in some fashion. Even this series skews things the same way. It’s a self fulfilling narrative by now. You create the narrative along democrats, the primary people working on creative endeavors like a doc or historical movie like “Trumbo” and eventually everyone believes it because that’s all they care to know about the subject

Unfortunately the narrator /writers seem to favor if not glorify Montgomery, and diminish Patton. Seems a bit silly. Patton was far more resourceful and creative than Montgomery. No need to go into detail here since the record speaks for itself.

This documentary needs a modern remake. We need Rommel to be gay. The war has to be about Montgomery refusing to use the proper pronouns. We need a contingent of feminists to complain about the patriarchy in the military.

Just started the BBC’s 24-part documentary series on the Cold War, and I'm already blown away by how detailed and engaging it is! The series kicks off right after WWII and goes all the way through to the end of the Cold War in the 1990s. It’s packed with archival footage, interviews, and in-depth analysis that bring the tension and drama of the era to life. I’ve only seen the first few episodes so far, and I’m already hooked. It covers the major events, like the Berlin Blockade, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Vietnam War, with such depth and clarity. The interviews with key figures and ordinary people who lived through these events add a personal touch that makes the history feel even more real and immediate. I’m really looking forward to diving into the rest of the series over the summer vacation. It’s the perfect time to binge-watch and fully immerse myself in this fascinating period of history. If you're into Cold War history or just love a good documentary, I highly recommend checking this out. It’s an incredible journey through one of the most tense and intriguing periods of the 20th century. 🌍📺

Nah, Rommel was only good against opponents who fell for his typical feigned retreat tactics of pulling back his armour and luring the Allies into his hidden Anti Tank guns. Against Monty, who DID NOT fall for it once in the Desert, Rommel would fail. After Monty dug in, Rommel said in frustration "the swine is not attacking" and instead it was Rommel who would attack and watch as his Panzer divisions were destroyed by the British. Rommel was also not so clever when Bonner Fellers who was revealing the British positions was stopped.

Thankfully its my day off, I can watch this stuff all day. Documentaries don't come much better than this. That 'one pilot' who survived was named George Gay & I've always been fascinated by his story, I can only imagine the view he had to one of the greatest Naval victories, while in his life raft with Japanese ships & pilots that ditched their aircraft all around him. I'm sure if the American dive bomber pilots would have opened their canopies they could have heard him hooting & hollering in approval.

It will be a number of years before that reverses, however, as a result of the end of the United States support for the globalization that it created at the Bretton Woods accord, as globalization and global supply chains break down, United States is restoring much of its manufacturing, especially the high-end manufacturing, and design, and has engaged in trade deals with Mexico to the south, initiative under the previously administration and carried out by the current administration, to site low-end and medium-end manufacturing there, as part of NAFTA II. We are now embarking upon the largest build-out in the history of the last 100 years, which will produce a boom in construction jobs, infrastructure, metals processing including new steel mills, and both design and the high-level precision manufacturing jobs. This build out is essential as the formerly cheap labor countries such as China are, first, no longer cheap labor sources and, second, in irreversible demographic declines that will result in their end as functional, global nation-states, most of them collapsing within the next decade. The economic outlook for the United States is excellent for decades to come.
