I thought this would be a fun time to do a short multimedia experiment! A little different in length and content than most "Holiday Ian" videos, but nonetheless, I hope you like it. Let me know!

Very impressive playing!
well done. Not pretentious and closest to Kapustin's own interpretation.
Beautifully played!
Wonderful. ! congratulations.!
It's awfully quiet for it to be a model 5 and that quiet only a few blocks away.
This bourdon sounds low C. 40,926 lbs. according to G&J Due to concerns about stress on the tower, they are no longer swinging this bell. I briefly played this carillon in 1986(?). Heavy action. Also I moved the clapper and gently struck (tapped) the bell. The audible sound quickly diminished. I placed my ear on the bell and listened to it continuing to ring for several minutes! Largest carillon by weight. A much smaller carillon has 77 bells. Do the 5(?) other swinging bells still swing?
Where is this bell, dear?
'So mini tower???
Every state capitol received one of these bells in 1976, but most that I have seen are not able to be rung. The wooden yoke is usually on the verge of collapse and steel beams have been placed under the bell, as with this one. Utah has theirs inside their capitol building and it will resonate when struck. All of them sound an E natural like the original Liberty Bell.
It is an untuned steel bell in a very popular size. Most of these were cast around 1890-1910, but they are still made today and are inexpensive compared with bronze bells. The strike tone is an F#, but the hum tone is about a fifth below instead of an octave below. This is quite common on American steel (a.k.a. "cast iron") bells.
That's actually an F#, not Bb.
von hand und automatik??
so what kinda siren is this? tsunami or tornado one?
you aren't going to wear a bell that big out. I regularly ring on a bell that was cast so long ago that we arent sure how old it is, was probably in about 1410, this we assume from other existing examples of this founders work. Our old bell (or "1410" as we call him) has been smacked with a clapper milions and millions of times over the last 600 years and is still fine. You have to move the point where you hit the bell occasionally because a groove appears, but other than that, no probs.
Unbelievable sky!
@vff306 That's a Model 5.
Mooi!!!
Ich auch;-)
What a pitty! I would like o hear these bells...
Klasse Vidio 5 * !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think, she doesn t sounds as good as the Salvator in Salzburg, thought she is also foundet by Oberacsher
An haunting, but beautiful sound.
what is the difference beetwen catholic chruchs and lutheran
It sounds like an older Model 5 with the heavy rotor. These sounded much like an STH-10 in terms of a slow rise and fall.
that has a pleasant sound like no other
taco bell keeps trying to buy it
That's one of the reasons of the nice sound of bells (the overtones) and the shape of the bell developed during the Middle Ages as I understand it creates that sound
I read on their website that the siren sounds every wednesday at 7:30PM?
Its quite a story...the original bell was knocked off its mounts during an air raid and fell straight to the floor of the cathedral, where it smashed to pieces. The new bell was actually recast from the pieces of the old.
The Chicago carillon was renovated awhile back - what did they do about the "worn out" bells? They're too big ever to leave the chamber. I was visiting the tower one afternoon when 2:00 came. The sound of those bells was awe-inspiring - not so terribly loud, just soul-filling and HUGE.
Yes- it's the hour bell of the faceless clock. It's too low to be used in music for the carillon - no one else has such a big bell, so there's no reason to write for it. BTW: How could 2 men push 41,000 lb of anything! It rings either by a hammer on the outside or by a mechanical swing motor. The pitch is, IIRC, a high-pitch C based on A=450-something. Not A-440, that's for sure. I say all this because I've not only visited the tower, I met the carillonneur. Nice guy, BTW.
Yeah, definatly a Model 5, the STH-10 and Model 5 may have the same ports, but there's a distinctive sound the Model 5 has that an STH-10 doesn't. Also, the wind up and wind down are FAR too quick.
Do they use the Model 5 for the Wednesday tests? And I thought they tested them at 7:30
Can you speak english?
I love this bell!
This is no cathedral, for the Protestant Community in the Netherlands don't have bishops. They are against bischops... Dordrecht has never had a bischop. Also no catholic cathedral.
No no no!, this church is Reformed! It was Catholic untill 1560. It was called Onze Lieve Vrouw or Our Lady. After that it is called de Grote Kerk or the Big Church. The Old Catholic Community is very small. Less than 6000 believers in the Netherlands. Their St. Gertrudis-cathedral is in Utrecht. The Protestant Community has 2,5 million believers in the Netherlands and the Roman Catholic Church 4,6 million. (wikipedia)
No, the first cast bell in Germany is the "Walbecker Glocke". It's founded about 1000 (i think its older). Look under the german Wikipedia for "Walbecker Glocke". Then you can find it. :-)
It's one of the later Theophilusglocken, but it's a Bienenkorbglocke (to 90 %). Theophilusglocken produced about 900 an 1000.
I've been by this siren in person! I toured with a choir a few summers ago and we did some shopping in downtown Seaside at some outdoor mall place and I believe this was just north or northwest of where we went.
What a waste of nine good bells! They are probably afraid to "offend" the neighbors.
Ah, that recording is from 'church bells of England'- that's my favourite track.
There is a church near Ryderwood and Vader that has two bells side-by-side in a similar structure.
