My daughter was at an orphanage in China and was very delayed. I am sure she never crawled. Math was so hard for her, numbers were impossible. I worked with her hand eye coordination, had her crawl, pretend to wash windows with her hands making circles in different ways, anything that I thought would help her. The first time she made a snow angel both my husband and I cried! Also she learned music and played different instruments. That helped her a lot! She is 30 now and is doing well!

What's are the symptoms and can a child be let's say normal then become slow processing due to anxieties while in school etc. Every student is different but there's got to be an evaluation that can single out the core of his deficiency. Now i am very in tune with him and I can answer anything as a prescreening for the right diagnose for him.

I noticed this throughout my daughter’s whole life. When she was younger she would vomit every time we got in the car with what I thought was motion sickness, she struggled with add or lack of focus, definitely extra time to process and conversations are extra hard bc they don’t flow normally. I tried every extra curricular dance, cheer, karate, tumbling, gymnastics, etc. and she wasn’t good in any of those and she became severely depressed and anxious and was hospitalized multiple times and her best friend taught her to sing and play the guitar and it literally saved her life. She was able to get off all 5 medications with mild depression and lives a relatively normal life. She is deciding on college right now and I have no idea what to expect or suggest to her.

Thank God. My daughter must be having this problem i guess. Actually, she was a brilliant child. When her interest spark with art n painting, we allowed her to used colors which causes her allergies in her right fingers. After that her handwriting worsen. Slowly she lost interest in writing after the age of 8 years. I thought she was lazy. But now i realized it must be this problem. She is not taking notes in the classes. Thank u very much. I m little relief.

Dr. Driscoll, do you ever work with learners whose issues include mispronouncing words that they habe learned imperfectly through their imperfect reading? (One example, which I recently encountered, was with an older learner who habitually mispronounced the word “laborious” as “labor us”)? Might you please say a little about that common type of issue, and what’s needed to correct or prevent it?

On top of that, I self-remediated for the handwriting issues, and am now a handwriting instruction and remediation consultant, as well as author of the resource book READ CURSIVE FAST (entering its second printing this year ) I’d like to contact you to compare notes, and perhaps even help each other. What is the best way to reach you directly?

Ty for this video! I thought that i might have inattentive adhd at first, but now that i started looking into apd, i found that i also resonate with some of the symptoms. I wasnt able to find a clear distinction between the two disorders and was wondering what the difference is. I struggle with daydreaming a lot and getting lost im my thoughts, but i also struggle to comprehend reading even though i learned how to read at a very young age. I also struggle to follow conversations and comprehend someone who is talking to me. I also find myself asking "what?" A LOT. So i was just wondering if i have either of these disorders and if you could help? Ty.

I'm 55 and just recently found out l have this mutation and have been really struggling with chron8c fatigue, moodiness, anxiety, depression and overwhelm ever since l was pregnant with my daughter who will be 12 soon! She has many of these symptoms as did l as a kid. I've been supplementing for 2 months now but don't think l feel any different but went up to the full dose 2 days ago, so fingers crossed! Why can't we just get those giant currupt multibillion dollar corporations to stop spraying our grains and adding to other foods. It's amazing how many corrupt corporations are allowed to continue practices that have been proven to cause health issues. Must have something to do with the public-private partner ships with the government's that are supposed to be working FOR us!!

Others have a genius at writing, but can't physically write. Yeah, that phonetic thing still happens to me. I also get letters backward, still, when I'm stressed out. Yep, and that poor motor skills comes out when I'm mowing a lawn, or folding laundry, or doing dishes. People don't understand that, and think I'm capable of blue collar work, but I'm just not. It'd be too dangerous for me to be on rooftops nailing shingles or anything like that. Or doing something like lowering logs down with ropes. It sucks. That's why I'm a writer, though. It's funnily the one thing I can do. Oddly enough. And I have dozens of notebooks filled with handwritten materials. All sloppy, but if I slow down, it's actually neater than most modern kid's handwriting. I had an Alpha Smart. And in High School I had a laptop. Computers are a huge crutch for me, even to this day. It even helps with my ADHD and organizational skills. Lol. Modern technology has good uses. No, you just tell them to practice their writing. I write volumes in notebooks. It can be frustrating, for sure, when the teacher can't read what I wrote, but as far as writing is concerned, it's better to have them write their notes. Though, the skills I received using a laptop through high school--a real help--was good for other areas I struggled with. And in the few college courses I took, the Laptop helped me get A's. It's not genetic. They know what causes it. It's from brain injuries. Like I have it, because I fell off a toilet at four and got a concussion. You're a healer. Nutrition has nothing to do with it. You're just doing that because you believe in them. Practice cured me. But also the positive reward I get from writing. School has a habit of making writing and everything else into a chore. If you want kids to learn, you have to engage them and make it interesting. There's subtle ways to make people enjoy learning, and get them interested in school. Normally that's all that separates a gifted child from one like me, who was a C student. Now, I outperform even PhDs in some subjects. But, that's because I unlocked my genius. I don't have an autoimmune disease, but I go through those cycles, too. I didn't know that was my dysgraphia, though. I think that's just a biorhythm. It's usually worse around the winter, and it gets better at springtime. My dysgraphia doesn't wax and wane, but my attention and productivity do. Some of the stuff you're saying is true. For sure. But, I'm not 100% sure that nutrition has much to do with it. I have good nutrition, and eat healthy foods. It's more the Media and entertainment. The recent influx of iPhones is the whole of the problem. And you're right to be suspicious of technology in the classroom. You are right about that. I think the influx of ADHD and other problems is caused by the Media. I wrote a poem about that, actually. It's on my blog. You can check it out. Basically, Medea is a demon and my hero has to beat her. She gives someone a lust for the world (A Giant's Soul). But, you're smart as a tack, Lorraine. Keep up the good work. I wish my parents had you as an advisor when I was a kid. God bless, Lorraine!
