    is the clicking when keying your paddle from the paddle, or from a relay in the amp? I've got one of these for 2m band that I picked up at stone mountain some years ago, unfortunately haven't had time to do anything with it. I was wondering if it would also work on other bands, but I imagine it needs a different tuning coil for that?

    • @vtradio
      @vtradio Před 9 dny

      Jon, It's from the relay in the amp. I would not know how to convert it. The amp is made to pair with a Gonset transceiver. I have since sold the unit, since I could not make it work for me. I bought it to save it from the scrap heap. Thanks for viewing! 73 Paul AA1SU

      @@vtradio thanks for saving it from the scrap heap! I guess I'll have to look around and find a second amp on a scrap heap somewhere :) I imagine the main difference is the big tuning coil, and whatever capacitor it's in resonance with.

The eelect knob is really 3 powers of degrees of NOTCH Depth and the Phasing is the NOTCH. The IF knob is the bandwidth. Source: I have one of these NC-300's.

    Milliwatts of grid? Mine use milliamps. Milliwatts of plate "current? Isn't current measured in amps? The DX-20 specifications call for 50 watts input and you get 40 watts output? Aha! Good catch. I did not grow up with these, like you did. You can correct my mistakes when you make a video of it. I actually made the video clips in Sept 2022. Just got around to uploading it. I replaced 3 capacitors and 3 resistors, using the Hayseed Hamfest kit. When I first got it, I thought something was wrong because it would not transmit w/o the key. But after I replaced the components, it still did not TX. Then, one day it suddenly did. You said that I probably bumped something that fixed it. I also replaced the resistor in the parasitic choke because it broke apart on me. That may have also taken out the 6DQ6A tube because I replaced that, too. 73 Paul AA1SU

    I just bought Zenith Transoceanic B-600 off of eBay. BC AM works great but it is not receiving anything on SW - just buzzing noise. What do i need to check to troubleshoot SW reception? Also, is it possible to connect an external antenna to this radio?

    • @vtradio
      @vtradio Před 4 měsíci

      The fact that you are receiving the AM Broadcast Band is a very good sign. What I would do for starters is to go to a room, away from computers (or outside), and extend the wave rod (antenna) all the way up. If it's daytime, alternate between the top 4 bands and tune around the dial slowly. If it's nighttime, try the bottom two bands. You should be able to tune something in. Yes, this radio will accept an external antenna. Open up the back and you will see two screws near the bottom of the wave rod. You can attach a long wire to the one marked 'A'. The other one is marked 'G' for ground. Don't worry too much about that one. If you want to see the video series that I did on restoring this radio, go to my channel and click on Playlists. It will probably be more that you want to get in to, but it may give you some ideas of what to look for. If you know someone with a tube tester, you may want to start by checking those (baby steps). Installing the Filt-R-Pak from eBay would be a plus, too. I just checked and the seller is running low on stock. I need to order one each for my 8G005 and my H500. Good Luck and keep me posted. 73 Paul AA1SU

      @vtradio Thank you for your suggestions, Sir. Here's my setup. czcams.com/video/TwdrXaBCZJE/video.htmlsi=9badqcOiyo9E5CTB The SW now works great with my external Hustler HF all band vertical. 31-meter band is my favorite and, of course, it is best to listen to it at night. Here, in California, I am able to pick up Radio España daily on 9.690 MHz starting around 22:00 UTC (around 2 PM Pacific). And, yes, the radio hates all modern electronics and LED lighting, so I had to setup a normal incandescent lighting in my bedroom because I love falling asleep while listening to a SW broadcast with a little bit of static noise. Although, I don't speak any other languages besides English and my native Russian, I still enjoy listening to broadcasts no matter what language they are in. I am a bit disappointed about the lack of European stations that can be heard on SW bands at my QTH but there is a station from. Miami that broadcasts European radio shows. 73!

    You have something not set correctly, perhaps horizontal gain. On AM, the one AM signal covers the whole display. assuming that AM signal is about 10 kHz, the 100 kHz width that the scope provides should show signals to the left and right of the signal. Same for SSB, where you have that 3 kHz signal covering the whole scope display. In this configuration it is useless to look at a portion of the spectrum for activity, since any signal covers the whole scope display.

    Where did you find the capacitor location chart? Could have used that on my Y600

      Bob, I forget exactly where, but this link looks like the exact thing that I used: bama.edebris.com/manuals/zenith/l600 It's for the L600, but there were very few differences in the 600 line. 73 Paul AA1SU

    Hayseed Hamfest DOES NOT offer the replacement of the POLY caps ONLY. They offer CAN capacitor ONLY or CAN capacitor and POLY's

    • @vtradio
      @vtradio Před 10 měsíci

      I made an email request for a quote on just the caps w/o the can capacitor. He replied right away. It turned out that I did not need the single electrolytic capacitor. I have since misplaced it. Bummer, because I have other T-Os that would benefit from it. Thanks for your comment. 73 Paul AA1SU

    I sold this to a local ham soon after making this video. He already had one and was looking for another. I recently found a cart to hold my Hammarlund SP-200, so now I am finally enjoying that one. The SP-200 has a separate power supply, so setting up that one can be a challenge. 141-142v on B+ seems a little high. The schematic I have has the B+ at 130v, with 120v and 110v further down the voltage divider. I just got a S-120 to recap/rebuild with that Hayseed Hamfest kit. Your two videos are great tutorial and will be very helpful. I think your highlighted 150v on the schematic is for the capacitor rating.

    • @vtradio
      @vtradio Před rokem

      Thank you for the comment. It could be that I was looking at the wrong part of the schematic. All the other research showed a resistor to bring down the voltage. I sold it at a Hamfest soon after this to a nice older couple. I could have sold it for more on eBay, but I'm happy that it went to a good home.
