I love this. You're so right about what you say about the aestehics before source. Thankfully Red Orchestra came out because DoD:Source was a let down.

Who remembers the Mil-sim clans pre Source? They were hella corny but man that M1 with HP maxed at 80 was worth putting up with them acting like they were actually Pattons 3rd Army constantly.

Played this back in the day. I was apart of [WWE] clan. We practiced regularly and completed in MLG tournaments. What a time to be alive. I will never forget those days...... Unfortunately I lost contact with all the members

I remember that there was a lan local near where I lived, that feature 14 computers, which had been set up by the residents of the area, since lan gaming had become increasingly popular. Of which Delta force 1 and 2 was the first game I played at that location but also the first I participated in a lan match competition. This place has unfortunately been turned into a warehouse after the lan wave died out, around 2009.

My first online FPS was Delta Force 2. Since then the game is saved in my heart forever. Good old times. I couldnt stop playin the game. I was always super amazed by the infinite maps. Sometimes u just ran for 5 minutes to get that sweet sniper position and the bullet drops were cool too.

I used to play DF2 in 2006. Didn't have a PC powerful enough to run the likes of San Andreas or other such graphics intensive games back then. My first game was Project IGI after which I got this. Unlike IGI, this was way too hard. 2 mins into any mission I selected, King 6 would declare both Alpha team and Charlie team as KIA. There was no health bar so after 2-3 shots, you were dead. There was no one shouting "Hey You! Stop There!!" to give away their positions, just random gunshots followed by bullets hitting ground near you. Enemies would snipe from 500-600 mtrs away on mountain tops, fired in prone position hidden in long grass, etc. This game increased my typing speed cause all the time I had to write cheat codes just to clear a mission 🤣. But it actually pushed me to change my playstyle. Though I was never a part of online community(didn't have internet back then), DF2 always had those mind blowing missions with myriad of terrains and interactive vehicles that could be exploded like pick ups, tanks, trucks, boats, helicoptors and that C130 Globemaster that used to hang in the skies even after it was destroyed 🤣🤣. I doubt anybody will be able to make such a game now.

The community was amazing online with these games. I made lifelong friends playing them. Like you, we reminisce about those early days of online play.

Thank you for putting this together. I was there from the beginning and went through the DOD saga. Funny enough I’m still playing this game and you’re right in that it has been a significant part of my entertainment and I’ve made many good friends along the way. Can you imagine someone plotting out the clan dramas and server wars that played out over two decades. Thank you!

DF2 gog version works with Game Ranger. Game Ranger doesn't work with steam versions for some reason.

Once I completed missions I used to naively roam around and explore the vast grasslands without realising it's a tiled map and features are just repeating :D Sometimes such expeditions have been fruitful. I would encounter hidden platoon of enemy soldiers waiting to be killed, mysterious man that don't appear in real but appear as a blue marker in map etc. Sometime I just take a stroll enjoying the view and bird chirps. Old memories.

Remember when i was 5-6 and playing DF 2 and GTA 2 in internet caffe's. Pretty cool. We used to call enemies that were far away "sausages" or something lmao

This and Counter Strike were my first two online FPS experiences as a child. But I put on way more hours wi DF2 and I remember the clans and goofy ass custom maps online as well. God the camping on some of the larger servers was atrocious lol. I also remember people used to role play on some servers, often having nothing to do with the goal of the game at the time.

Some of the wespon models in the beta 3.1 looked better than the retail ones imo. The thompson, kar43/gewehr 43, and mp40 were some of the better looking models in 3.1b. Some of the retail models proportions were out of whack

I played Day of Infamy for a couple hours and realized that it wasn't anything like DoD or DoD:Source. Hated it.

I'm in a clan in day of defeat called TEK, they have their own website and our own server that always has players on it, keep in mind it's a pve server. Real players on allies and bots on axis.

Hello! Seen you've not uploaded in a few months and just thought I'd leave a comment saying I hope you're well, and if you're having a tough time over the past few months - hang in there, winter is hard, but spring is close, and with it the world seems to come to life once again

Watching this in 2021. I remember this game and I played it constantly when I got it in 1999 or 2000 (I even played it on an old computer as recently as a couple years ago, but it was glitchy). I remember multiplayer was my one of my favorite things about this game and before people figured out how to cheat, it was amazing. Then things went downhill (for me) when certain players figured out how to glitch into the clouds with automatic grenade launchers. I remember it was only on certain servers, so maybe that was a thing I didn't know. I could never figure out the cheats, but then again I was only a kid- either way, those cheats ruined multiplayer for me. You mentioned the Dad's Army, and it rung bells in my memory. Never joined them, but I think I played alongside them. This set the bar HIGH for FPS games and I remember being so disappointed in basically all the games I got after Delta Force 2 because they had distance fog, no bullet drop, claustrophobic multiplayer maps and the grass did not hide you (functional "grass" camouflage was also one of my favorite features from this game). It also bothered me immensely that most FPS games in my youth that followed DF2 were multiplayer only. Sometimes I liked to play the campaign mode or quick missions. I also was so disappointed with the following Delta Force games because it felt to me like the quality dropped massively. I wish games like this would make a come back. It made realism fun. Even many games nowadays have distance fog preventing long view distances. Loved this video and thank you for the memories!

Very fond memories of this game from back in the early 2000s. I remember downloading the 2.0 beta on 56k dial up, it was only 120mb but it took around 8 hours to download, I had to do it overnight because it would have tied up the phone line all day and my father would have gone mental :D
