Workshop Update - 1991 Jeep Wrangler "Islander" - S1E002
All good projects start with an appropriate amount of prep work and that's what we have here. To be able to work on our "Islander" project we need to deal with our new, smaller (currently being used as a storage space) garage.
Follow along on our journey as we take the twists and turns with getting ready to start work on our Jeep Wrangler Islander.

Picking up a new Project - 1991 Jeep Wrangler "Islander" - S1E001
zhlédnutí 68Před 9 měsíci
We're launching a new project that we're calling "Islander" as it is all about restoring a 1991 Jeep Wrangler Islander. We picked this one up off craigslist for a good price, but it was over 300 miles away so the first task was getting it back to our garage. Check out our intro to the new project and a little acclimation to our Islander Jeep. Make sure you subscribe to see more videos soon! Mor...

Now that you've had a bunch of years, any complaints? I'm thinking about picking one up.

Nope. No complaints at all. Solid product that still gets the job done… even with a lot of heavy rubber hanging on it.

Awesome video! Just purchased a set of these wheels from 4 wheel parts. Was wondering how long it took them to arrive 🤔

You can buy a new panel for far less than what you are spending trying to fix the clearly ruined panel and it will turn out 100% better. Summit part # 576-0480-136 Cut off wheel the old panel to the seams and drill the spot welds to remove the lips , clamp the new part and spot weld through the holes like factory, seal seam and primer . A professional job done right that you will be happy with and it will even end up costing you less money and a whole lost less aggravation and disappointment. Regards William

Totally agree that would have saved a lot of frustration. That being said, I learned a lot in the process. (And that learning may have been all about what not to do.). My goal in this process is to learn and honestly I’m no metal worker so this was great for me from that aspect. In the end I’ll probably do exactly what you suggest though.

As soon as you turn the key on you should hear the fuel pump prime, it will make a kinda quiet hum sound, and that should tell you if it's your fuel pump. If you don't hear it the first thing to start checking is fuses and if that's good then check if power is getting back to the pump. As for a no spark issue the first easy thing to check is the distributor cap and rotor and work your way out from there. Plenty of how to videos out there on how to check this stuff. Good luck and hope to get an update video soon.

That frame is completely fine, that front part has no structural purpose and would only need fixed for cosmetic reasons. The only thing you really need to do is treat the rust and seal it so it doesn't come back.

Looking to buy this tire carrier kit along with Smittybilt XRC Gen1 rear bumper.. do you think I will be able to clear my 22" rim wrapped in 37" tire??

Hey thanks for the quick response. Looks like the 315s will suit me. I have a AEV 2.5 lift and wheels with 5.2 backspacing so clearance shouldn’t be a problem. I was also on the market for a tire carrier and thanks to your video I’ll be purchasing the R&R Spartacus carrier. Thanks again

Hi I’m looking to getting the same tires. I’m debating between 315/70/17 or 35x12.5/17. Can you please measure how tall your 315s are mounted. I’ve read they may run a little small. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.

    • @hyker06
      @hyker06 Před 5 lety

The tires stand right at 33.75" tall on the Jeep (although they're listed at 34" tires). They're also very wide so the wheels with an updated backspacing/offset or wheel spacers are needed. I have a 2" spring spacer lift and the only thing that rubs is the plastic air dam under the front bumper. I like the tires a lot, but they're very heavy so be aware your stopping distance will be extended with bigger tires if you don't also upgrade your brakes. (I'm still running stock brakes at the moment.) Also, if this is your first time with the larger tires make sure you account for the extra height. The standard jack won't cut it after adding the taller tires. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hey do you have a 2" spacer lift in front only or all around?

Another great video! Great job on the install of a necessary mod, the stock hinge will not hold up to a larger wheel and tire combo.
