From 2010-2011 I learned a new tune every day. Now I will post occasional tunes or tutorial videos.
Trip to Athlone / Cailleach An Airgid / Leg Of the Duck (Irish Jigs)
Sat down and learned this set from MacDara Ó Raghallaigh's live solo album "Ego Trip" which I have playing nonstop these days. I was at a music festival last weekend and had some extra time, and it's the first time in ages I've had time to just sit and learn some tunes.

Irish Fiddle Tutorial - Trebles
zhlédnutí 27KPřed 11 lety
This is a brief overview on trebles in Irish fiddle. This will probably be the most useful for fiddlers and violinists already familiar with the instrument and just starting to learn the Irish style. Trebles are a common ornament, and when written out, look like two sixteenth notes and an eighth note. They help the fiddle mimic the sound of the pipes. This video goes through three places where ...
Irish Fiddle Tutorial - Bowing Tricks
zhlédnutí 37KPřed 11 lety
Here's a short discussion on bowing in Irish traditional music. This video is probably the most appropriate for people familiar with the violin, but new to the Irish musical tradition. If you have specific questions, or tunes you'd like bowing ideas on, let me know in the comments below. I will be doing another video specifically addressing trebles and the myriad of things you can do with them ...
How to play a roll - Irish Fiddle Tutorial
zhlédnutí 121KPřed 11 lety
I just recently finished a project learning a new tune everyday (pretty much, anyway) for a year. During that time I had quite a few requests for tutorial videos. So this is the first of a series of tutorials I will do on Irish fiddle ornamentation. This tutorial focuses on the roll, that ubiquitous trilly sound you hear in pretty much every Irish tune ever. Sheet music (if needed) for the tune...

zhlédnutí 8KPřed 12 lety
Here's a set of jigs I've probably listened to a million times on the Altan album. I recorded the entire set, not able to stop after the first jig. Love these tunes. The first is attributed to Andy de Jarlis, but it could also be traditional. Sorry about the dark screen. My camera was being moody today and filtering out all the light. newtuneaday.blogspot.com katiedavishenderson.com

Ed Reavy composition " In Memory Of Michael Coleman, and beautifully played full justice to the lovely composition and to the legendary Coleman too my all time musical hero
Man this is such a fun timing
hornpipes are so fun
Well done. That's difficult at that tempo.
Please upload some more
Can’t see your fingers.
Cool bowing.
Great work! I am 12 years late but could you tell me how you are making the percussive sound on some of those notes? It sounds kind of like a hammer or pull off like in Guitar but the pitch doesn’t change.
Lovely jig but you have to learn to pronounce Kill-A-vil properly. l🎉. My grandfather was born in this famous village.
😊
Great playing. I've just picked this song up lately, I'm at the beginning of Old Time assist guitar. Thank you for posting!
Do you do one on one fiddle lessons? My fiddling needs help, particularly bows, executing ornaments, rolls, triplets, and getting my timing to sound more irish.
Nice but missing the nicest variations as found in O'Neill's. Why not take 2 days and learn it fully?
Mighty playing. Pardon my ignorance but why tune it up half a step?
Was this composed by Ed Reavy?
Fabulous. tune a day 12 years ago that's 4380 tunes to date. You are some lady, that would take me three weeks and and some months more of performing to learn that tune and I am an experienced player, well done.
Great playing
Very nice ...but american style applied to sliabh luachra polka .. May me some one dont like ..😊
Trouble finding the right structure of this beautiful tune, counting in 4/4.
This is on one of my favorite trad albums, (ha! ha! a cassette from 1993) was "Quand l'vent vire de côté", by Les Frères Labri. There's a track with a song "Ah, du temps que j'étais jeune" followed by their version called "Le reel en viole". This album drew me down deep into Québécois trad. Impossible to find now I think. I've digitized mine. The musicians are Normand Miron, Jean-Paul Loyer, Jean-Claude Mirandette, Régent Archambault, and André Marchand.
I would buy the CD with the two of you playing this type of music!
Brilliant! Loved this……thank you
Great playing ladies
This is just ... so great! Thanks for putting it out there.
Thank you- I’m just starting Irish fiddle & what a good place you start❤️
nicely played, and great tune. I'm learning it now.
Katie, you are so awesome. I wish you would upload again
Wow...I can only just keep up at 0.75!
Nice, well done! 👍
Hey Katie, how's it goin. Thanks for all the videos. Could you tell me what strings you like ? I'm having a bit of trouble finding the right fit for my fiddle ( there's probably a good chance it's my technique)
Beautifully played!
Holy crap your good at this. 25 years ago (ish) is the last time i heard it played right.
100 pipers in 4/4 time😃
Love your playing!
Enjoyed! ❤😂
Awesome 👌 😊

The pigeon is definitely on that gate girl! 👧
Simply awesome
