It seems to me it's just like GURPS or Elite Dangerous RPG, both point buying systems, maybe with a lot more fluff! If anyone is planning to play it; have at least one person at the table that really understands it, play what you know and work from there, and just don't let it (the fluff) overwhelm you.

I liked Shadowrun because it felt like a somewhat lighterhearted D&D with more freedom of character build choice. Like you can go full hog medic with both the magic and tech to basically be a street doc on the go. You could be the stereotypical brute with a axe and be fine. You could legit spec yourself out to just have connections and money. That character has ZERO reason breaking into anything they're at home watching the run via cameras and calling in favors. Shadowrun solved the "subclass" issue now where everybody wants everything. You can KINDA have that but you'll suck. How you build your character is how the roleplay comes to life. Like you wanna be this weirdo that somehow got this MILSPEC laser cannon and knows how to punch people through walls with it. Yet they're also a hobo living out on 4x4 can of a blowhole. The appeal of it was what scares the udder crap out of "Drama class" type players since you have to know what you're doing game wise you just can BS around it. Once you do know that's when you can be goofy and exploit the hell of all of it

Dispite the fact I don't like Shadowrun because it mixes cyberpunk with magic, these two systems are not comparable. Shadowrun is cyberpunk with magic and D&D is a high a high fantasy RPG. So these are two very different types of settings. There are a ton of other high fantasy RPGs out there you can play instead. Warhammer, The Black Eye, etc.

I bought a metal D100 for my one on one WFRP 4e campaign, my player and i liked it because of how Big and Heavy it was, i prepared a table so that the d 100 didnt break anything, seems to be working.

I've been playing a fair bit of sixth edition for a while now and I honestly don't think it's that bad. A lot of the kinks were worked out with the revision texts like City Edition Seattle and now City Edition Berlin. That said, I also DM Shadowrun that rewards more roleplay over playing off of sheets. But yeah, the supplements and expansion books are pretty awesome. The biggest irk for me is how armor is handled and the system's over reliance on edge expenditure. But the Firing Squad core combat book offers alternate rules to play with that optionally change those rules for the better anyways so its a moot point.

they... did not translate "race"? That's a typo, the game was originally made in Spain, which means the original is in spanish. The must have forgotten to translate that in the sheet.

I think both have merit, however I disagree. I actually do like I have about a 60% chance to understand a middle English book, and not actually adding up to roughly the same percentage.

Did you seriously said that DnD is a good for beginners cuz it has fee numbers to keep track of.....? That's ridiculous. Sure. There are more crunchy systems than DnD, but I find DnD clunky and annoying PRECISELY cuz there's to much math and numbers to keep track of. Like what. "I recommend DnD because there's lot of recourses for it" or "I think it's very fun" would be so much more accurate statement to say. Also binary outcome of the dice is also not true. Getting mixed results is so much more interesting than just binary fail-success states. But maybe I'm just playing to much Apocalypse World :P

I know the video is old and all but you talk very little about the sytems changes and complain a lot. Also did you really read/play 6ed? the writting is horrible indeed but Strenght do affect damage in melee and its often a prerequisite for a lot of guns and stuff. Also the edge system is quite simple my onyl complain woudl be that 1 edge effect are a bity too weak and 4+ edge effect are kind fo too strong making most battle end very quick compared to 4ed or 5ed. also feel like your using drugs and poison wrong.Most drug first attack your stun meter before downing you. and poison usually simply hurt you for the difference and add an effect.

So coming back to this video, I like 6th edition even more the updates have gotten better the supplemental books are fun and I'm glad it is the way it is

Just from CRB you already have "Toxin extractor " and "Tracheal filter " which is already -6 threshold from toxin test and also +6 to dice roll on toxin tests. So, basically this two already just almost remove any toxic with power of 8. Toll at the start can have 9 body and 5 will. So... We have reduced threshold (by 6 at max rank): +14 dices from body and will. +6 Dices from Filter. At this point VS gas you can just take a Gas Mask which is jsut make you immune to any Inhalation-vector toxin attacks. My Sam just running around with 24/7 Jazz. And still not a single fail against Power 9 toxin test. Thx to extractor. P.S. STR are usefull stat: - Grapple. - Break something. (Here is no closed door if you have enough STR.) - STR adds attack raiting to your melee attacks with weapon. - Jumping use STR, not AGI. Also with some implants you can use your STR for running instead of AGI. - Also carry capacity is an important. When you can lift a tonne - you can steal a tonne. (Even in fight its usefull if you have right place.) - AND EVEN MORE. With MA-qualities you can do more damage with STR. STR/3 for your melee DV. So... Not a good take.

With some background music, better mic quality, mildly sharper editing, a tiny amount of extra SFX spice this could be making 100k views

In my own opinion, the best roleplaying system out there is Rolemaster 2nd/3rd edition. Nothing tops it. But for Shadowrun, nothing beats the intense feeling of focus and commadery when you are five minutes from finishing your "milk run" of reuniting some celebrity with their baby brother who ran off to find religion...on the bottom sub-floor underneath the Church, waiting for the freight elevator, and quickly running out of hollow point bug spray.

I ran a whole campaign in 6th... by the end of it, even I had checked out. There are three issues, all of them Glitched Failures: Catalyst Game Labs, I think it is, has a 'episodically' release policy. This means you do not get a complete set of Rules until a dozen books have been released, over a period of a few years. If they don't give up 3/4 of the way through, to work on the next edition, starting the cycle from scratch, that is. This is the big reason why previous players refuse to move on... you are going from a semi-coherent game into a pile of geck.... The editor is also Lackluster , which means you need to keep your eyes out for Errata on the very first day. It has almost become an Easter-egg of it's own, getting a new edition and seeing which table has been forgotten entirely. These books are not intelligent formatted, so the lack of critical information can make trying to learn the system very problematic. Both what an Editor is meant to be paid to resolve, so we wonder if they even have one. Play testing clearly does not happen. If there is any play testing going on before this game is released, it isn't using Rules written into these current editions. Either solutions from past editions have snuck in to the playtesting stage, or house-rules are being used but not being written down, for some reason. Likely it is just a side effect of not having all the books written themselves! Seriously, I stick to past editions for a more compelte game. Even then I use third party tools to assist in keeping track of data.... Something has to direct me to the source book and page numbers! PS: Put two technomancies together in Sixth and kill the decker with ease. Stripping all actions from a player is not a good rule!

Is a great system if you design your character around one or two concepts. You simply ignore the rest. Magic users aren't necessarily going into melee, unless they're a warlock... Then, a weapon master isn't going to dabble in summoning except maybe to have enough skill to banish...

I only see people complaining about all this stuff on the internet. i started playing by the middle of 5th edition and I have, basically, two groups I play with. Both groups received 6th edition very well, and most stuff you complain about doesn't really happen during the game. Like AR and DR for instance most basic enemies have a body of 3 and a armor jacket for a total of 7 DR, some CRB unmodified ranged weapons already gain edge over that at near range: FN P93 Praetor, Mossberg CMDT, PJSS Model 55, AK-97, Yamaha Raiden, Barret Model 122, Ingram Valiant, Ares Super Squirt (did I forget any?). For melee it's a bit more complicated because they add STR to their AR: the Extendable baton - weakest CRB melee weapon - needs an STR of 6 to gain an edge over that, but ANYONE will gain an edge against a DR of 7 with a Katana because it has AR10 and you just need STR 1 to bring it to 11. To gain edge over that with a modified Ares Predator you only need +1 to your AR, most players can get it up to 15. Now the highest Enemy AR will be something in the lines of 17 or 18, that is enough to gain an edge over any unmodified weapon and deny edge gain for most modified weapons. So no, the AR DR rules arent broken. You just didn't bother to try different weapons and see how they interact with different armors and different ranges.

Sixth edition is the best. at least between 5th and 6th (which are the ones I played lmao)

Finally, a global issue resolution I can stand behind.

If you as a GM are willing to do the work, I have found that GURPS works fantastically for my group and we run almost nothing but Shadowrun and some Cyberpunk Red and some Fallout. But, unfortunately if you choose GURPS as your system then YOU as the GM are in for the most work out of any other gaming system out there. The entirety of GURPS is modular and so you will be spending a lot of time reading through 600+ page sourcebooks for what amounts to a paragraph of rules. But once you have your rules chooses, just plug in a setting and you're good to go. If you are planning on doing a SR game though using GURPS, I still highly suggest not just the corebooks for SR (to get the feel so you can translate) but so you can also get the setting correct. SR has the best sourcebooks in the genre. Period.

My boyfriend is running our first Shadowrun campaign, and it's amazing. The lore, the tech, the landscape. Plus, there's a ton of great cyberpunk ambience to utilize. I'm glad I found this channel, look forward to catching up on everything. :)
