PSA: RV and Travel Trailer essential safety check. Serious disaster and accident averted.

RV / Travel Trailer disaster averted after noticing an unusual tread ware pattern on the driver's side rear trailer tire. The Flange Nuts on the U - Bolt had become loose and stripped cause tire movement. The remaining Flange Nuts were only finger tight. This was a close call as the loss of an axle during highway driving could have caused a serious accident.

@@boba.eb.cycling it's so hard to get here.
How was Steamboat?
Thanks for asking. I needed to defer my entry until next year. A couple health concerns got in the way.
Great video. Still trying to unhear the music tho 😅
Thanks for the video. Any particular reason you chose this over the 10.3 considering they have the same weight capacity? Cheers.
No particular reason...mostly due to where I got the best price / value.
Great customer service!
it's refreshing, isn't it?
"these other bags are the size of a bus." Proceeds to demonstrate that he needs a bag that is the size of a bus. That bag is quite expensive.

Maybe get one of those thermo plastic inner tubes to get more room
Thanks! That's exactly what I did. Son gave me one on my birthday!
Have you determined if your bike stays dry in a "all day rain" or downpour while driving? Thanks for video🙂
Yes. We had some harsh weather and it seemed to work great. Thanks for asking.
I've seen all this before. 15 to 20 years from now, these gravel bikes will become mountainbikes. 😊
Agree. I just saw that Trek has a new "Checkmate" gravel bike. I'm not sure what the difference is or how it's an improvement over my ride. I suppose it's what the market will support. Stay tuned for Brian's "Frankenstein" bike....should be interesting.
Enjoyed this, thanks John. Hot?
Imo I would move the friction shifter to stem mount., Longer quill stem. Maybe put some bigger tires. I find that steel is better off road. Aside from that nothing else Btw what is the weight of the bike since you mentioned it is light
It was a parts-bin build. If I hadn't changed my mind and sold the frame, I probably would have done bar end friction or even gavenalle hood-mounted friction.
Was that at Wallowa State Park? Did you enjoy the Cyclist Magazine?
Yes! Thank you so much. Tomorrow - we'll drop a video on some of the rides in that area!
I have one of these, love it... I think the twitchyness can be attributed to the bike being on the small size for you. My experience with it is that it rides like it's on a rail. Again, love the bike.
Probably. I do regret getting rid of my first Zurich (which was the right size).
nice comparison though
I have a rim brake Mavic CXR60C drive wheel with a Shimano free hub that I am running a SRAM Force AXS rear derailleur, and a 12-speed Ultegra 11-30t cassette on the bike you can see in my profile picture. I am also running a Dura Ace 54-40t crankset. It has been working flawlessly for +2 years, but at around 50kph (31mph) my cadence is too fast, so I want to install a SRAM 10-33t cassette to take advantage of the 10t. Is it possible to buy a SRAM XDR driver and SRAM 10-33t cassette and do a quick swap? I believe the Mavic CXR 60C is from 2012-2013.
Thanks for the post. I know what I'm doing after breakfast. Just got back from my morning bike ride.
Does it come in a 2-bike version?

Just part of the adventure.

Well done!
Nice job John. The Director approves!
Hot looking bike, which looks even hotter. Thanks for sharing. Really like Emonda. I take it your Emonda is the last model before the now new Madone/Emonda. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. Yes last model before new Madone. I'm a total Emonda fan. The Emonda is such a great bike, I'm not sure why they are messing with perfection?
@@boba.eb.cycling I agree. I have my reservations about the New Madone/Emonda. No doubt a great bike, but just not convinced yet
Hi John, Thanks for the video! FYI: My instructions stated drill 3/16" holes, the Allen size was 1/8" and nut was 3/8"
That's very interesting. It's been awhile since we did this mod so I'm not sure how I put it together. Did the instructions work for you?
Wow John your new assistant is a huge upgrade for the channel! 😁
I find that I'm slower when I'm "undergeared" when climbing. Having to really fight it forces me to put down more power. But I sure can climb longer with the right gear ratio.
It was nice to meet you at Wallowa Lake Campground. Have a great trip to Steamboat. Cheers, Ed
I think Wild Boar has a new star...
Nice job, we’ll have to check this out and see if they have o e to cover two bikes. Thanks.
Thanks! I thought this was really interesting. Now I know where to go for my e-bike cover. Cheers!
Quite nice and good delivery! Explained very well.
Cool
Dude i bought it from 25mm tires on my 2013 raleigh rxc. I think he rode it on an indoor trainer because he was sick. Guy at bike shop insisted I put 38mm on. Factory is 33mm i believe. I now have a 38mm crosscut giant on front and a 33mm gravelking on the back. 38mm is too large. 35mm absolute max. I am very happy with the setup. I take it on mtn bike trails in bent creek nc no issues. Great climber and still very fast. I highly recommend for the price. And yes its hard to ride no hands.
I think they added clearance between 2013 and 2017. I have 35mm crossbosses and it's pretty tight. And you are right about climbing, just pr'ed this morning on big climb locally.
I own a 2013. Just bought it for 600$ love it. About to race it gran fondo asheville july 14th 2024
I'm kinda bummed they don't still make this bike. Good luck on your gran fondo.
6:13 "SIM activities when I'm outside". I know what you're getting at, but the irony is worth a smile. Ride on!
Thanks and keep the rubber side down!
I just purchased a vibe how do you raise the handlebars
Hmmm, I'm not sure there is an easy way to do that. They should come assembled with the stem (the part that clamps the handlebars) as high as it will go. Your best bet is to take it to your local bike shop and have them fit a new stem that is longer and has a steeper angle. The other option is to get new handlebars that have more of an up-sweep (if that makes sense). You can get steer-tube extenders that clamp on the steerer tube so you can put the stem higher, but they are an accident waiting to happen.
Yes, my old bike has rim brakes and a narrow fork, so cannot use a larger tire. It may be time for a new bike! Also, I have some spare earplugs for Brian if he wants them. Cool video.
Since homemade frame, will he go back and repair to use it again?
Fixing the crack is on my summer honey-do list, but it is not at the top. Hoping to make a video of the repair when it happens.
Would acetone no be better than ISO?
That's a good idea. I typically only use acetone when I'm trying to rewax my chain so I'm not sure.
Elizabeth and I are slightly over 30😂 more like mid 60s. You’ve inspired me for sure. I’m going to start doing a weekly weight exercise regime to reduce my muscle loss and bone density issues as for Elizabeth she’s agreed to drink more wine.
Not sure why this is a problem only on modern day brakes. I've been running disk brakes on mountain bikes for 25 years and never had a squeal. Suddenly in the past few years the brakes have become a pain in the ass. Are we being taken by the cycling industry??? Why are brake mid range pads from Shimano $60 a pair and top end pads for my car are only $45. Really, what is going on?
Great observation and my experience too. I'm thinking that the industry in search of lighter materials has caused some of this problem. Eeesh...for a few grams?
WD40 will stop squeaking and help stop rust.
I saw someone post that on a FB group and everyone thought he was trolling. so I'm confused
@@SingaporeUntold Don't use WD40. I've seen it posted all over the place as well. I think it started as a troll, but I also think people are starting to believe it. Just don't, WD40 will contaminate your pads.

Good question. I know that Silca makes a larger version. It might be worth checking out. Let us know. Thanks!
Just ordered the SLR 6. Unfortunately its taking a long time maybe because I need the largest frame. So hard to find those large frame s in stock, I am interested in those WTB tires u have and how they work. All I see are the 700 x 36 size for WTB Vulpine. Not a fan of the stock tires on my FX Sport 6. . Looking forward to eTap with Rival when it finally arrives.
I've been running the 36 Vulpines for well over a year and I really like how they perform in all conditions. I know about the wait. I ordered an Emonda in January and just got it the end of April. The SLR is worth waiting for!
