Created by InShot:inshotapp.page.link/YTShare
The challenges associated with installing glass tile seem to be an endless list. this video addresses some of those issues in particular a term called "ghosting". were you aware that it is possible to tint the thinset mortar when installing see-through glass tiles? this video will show you how to do so along with the products we used to accomplish a successful installation. many glass tiles are very expensive so knowing how to properly install them you'll save you so much time money and energy. several do-it-yourselfers are using premixed Mastic to install glass tiles on backsplashes and in wet areas like shower enclosures. this is hardly ever recommended and professionals rarely if ever use premixed Mastic. thin-set mortars mixed to appropriate thickness with the proper notched trowel and certain other techniques will result in a professional installation that will last many years. you should keep in mind that glass tiles with a transparency will show every mistake, and defect in your trowling techniques in the finished product. we will address techniques in further future videos, but for the sake of this video you will learn what was recommended as a result of the problem we experienced on a very real job. it was a very tedious job to skim coat the backs of every tile involved in this backsplash installation however we are confident now that this job will be successful. we tinted the thinset mortar shown in this video with a permacolor select grout colorant from laticrete. several colors are available and a grout chart is available on the laticrete.com website. this channel strives to provide importance and relevant tips, tricks, and information relating to the tile industry. we are in the beginning stages of developing this channel and hope that you view and look forward to Future content from saltwater tile.

    Them anchors not going to hold if someone actually uses grab bars.

    Should always put silicon in the holes before screwing it in to water proof

    Shouldn’t you use some silicone sealant in each hole before the screw as well as on the bracket itself?

      Absolutely you can, on this job I siliconed around all the plumbing trim and grab bar flanges

    Those anchors arent rated.

      They have a weight rating but not much. If using this method it's important to clearly explain that the bar is only meant to aid in stability, it is not installed for handicap access or use

    Never seen or heard of anyone using anchors on tile and durock to hold the fastener. Who taught you or did you just try it out n figure it holds and didn't chip the tile so let it ride?? Edit - also what's your thoughts on the no drill grab bars? I've been in the trades for 20 years but as a Carpenter only so don't know alot about tile and grab bar installation

      Great Questions, thanks for asking. I saw someone else using the anchors once so I tried. I will say some anchors are better than others and I feel that it is always better to fasten into structural support. With that being said, I always inform customers that these bars are meant to steady yourself, not support entire body weight. Otherwise I would add framing members and attach to wood supports. I've used the no drill grab bar once before- not a fan. The flange that went behind the tile seemed very flimsy. As long as tile doesn't crack when installing, I will continue to use the anchors as needed.

    Thank you for this, but I would want only stainless steel screws used,

    Which size anchor did you use from what you showed in the video the #4-6 or the #6-10 ?

      Sorry I'm just now seeing your comment, I believe I used the number four through six anchor, it does a great job of grabbing hold of the wall tile

    Nice. I get asked to do this occasionally, but what should I be charging for this if you don't mind sharing?

    • @saltwatertileguy
      @saltwatertileguy Před 2 lety

      I charge hourly, 1 grab bar takes no longer than that. Don't forget to add for materials. Many times I include it in the quote for the shower install. Hope it helps, thanks for asking
