I own both. I enjoy them both, but find myself flying msfs a lot more. (when it works). I recently installed the 'mandatory' V14 update and it trashed my installation. I had to wipe msfs and download everything again. It took 5 days with Asobo's download issues.

One more comment to mention and agree with comments on here is those who want to fly, fly MSFS. but just buy a cheap sim there are Loads about. Why spend £60 + just for graphics. Yes very gamey and over exposed on everything If you want the sim to actually be accurate using navigation and proper flight models that that fly as they shouldand planes that behave as they should buy x plane 12. The emphasis is on flying, not scenery. In my opinion the scenery is good enough. Plus, the point here, too, is you don't need the bees knees system to run this on full tilt.

This is not comparison but rather a MSFS promotion.!!

Xplane 12 is turely for real, MSFS is truely for relaxing You can even crash in msfs withour out the game, but not xplane

After so many comparison videos available on youtube, I would say the conclusion remains the same. Yes if you want a superb graphical presentation of scenery, then MSFS2020 is the choice,and may I also point out which you forgot to mention in the start, is that you have to be online with a good stable connection in order to get the scenery to load Bing maps and data, otherwise it will load poor quality ground textures as well in offline mode. So in XP12 this also achievable and can download the same Bing data, that would download ground tiles and DTM data that will be stored onto your hard drive, which you can then use fly offline, which in my opinion is a better option, as you dont have to rely on internet to keep loading the Bing data.I might wrong about that, but correct me if im wrong. Now if you want a sim which has reliable physics engine, then XP12 is the choice. Yes by default the scenery is crappy I agree on that, there are options available as the Ortho4XP, and with that i would recommend using Simheaven scenery packages which does a great job in my opinion. You have to ask yourself, do want a sim which simulates aerodynamics, or do you want an overall sim which has brilliant graphics and scenery which looks true to life? Its a pity both simulator engines cannot be combined into one sim. But then again, if you think about it, the powerful processor required on your system to run a sim of that design, will make it basically impossible for most people to afford, so you have to keep those in mind that are financially strained and wish to explore virtual flight simulation. So my conclusion, both sims are good generally with work arounds for both, but it all boils down to the user preference on wether he wants realism from graphics point of view, or from a flight physics point of view :)

In the 'customization' section, at around 6:40 in the video it appears that the video maker has not spotted that the controls on show are being filtered to only show those currently assigned to the device. There are a huge number of control functions that can be assigned to the devices buttons or axis, in the video the functions shown are only the ones that have been assigned to that device. This is fairly similar to the XPlane system in terms of the functions that can be mapped to controls. MSFS is not that far behind on control mapping. One thing it does not yet do as a built in function is remember which set of control profiles are assigned for a given aircraft.

The constant flickering in Xplane 12 is a dealbreaker for me. Until they fix this… Which most likely will be never… I will not purchase.

I find the people that say msfs is a game and xplane is a sim just a loyal fanboy. There all great and realistic.

If you want an arcade sim with a somewhat of a realistic experience then go for msfs, if you want a photoreal sense, plane selection, physics and pc friendly simulator go for xplane :)
