    Hey, I know this isn’t guitar related, just wondering how that Saleen Explorer is doing? My fiance and I are looking at a 2016 Explorer sport, we need more room for the kids. Has 89,000 miles, and the test drive didn’t reveal any noticeable issues. Heard they have issues with the PTU, and the internal water pump. Things I can manage to work on in the future if necessary, just thought I’d ask how yours is holding up.

      Over wrapping the tailpiece is much easier! We’re talking about guys like Joe Bonamassa and Billy Gibbons over wrapping the tail piece on legit 1959 Les Pauls!! Nobody’s going to file down the tunomatic on their priceless guitar. Lol 🤣 In my opinion, filing the tunomatic would just further weaken it, actually making the likelihood of collapse even greater. Creating more problems where none exist. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      @Metalcop5150 Před 3 dny

      I honestly don’t know the answer to that question. If you could find out what size strings he uses, that would be an indicator of 2 or 3 springs. I’d say anything larger than a 9-42 set requires 3 springs. You could always experiment w/ the real Floyd Rose high tension noiseless springs? I’ve always used 3 and I like that. I’ve recently noticed a lot of Van Halen disciples using only 2 springs, fwiw. Thanks for watching and commenting!!

      Yes, I do believe it is the odd sized Allen collar that tightens/ loosens the overall tension. Mine was kind of stuck, but once I got it moving, it works just fine. The trick is that it needs to move freely, but also hold in the position you’d like it to stay. Pretty simple piece of kit, you’ll get it figured out! 🤘

  • @tragedician
    @tragedician Před 8 dny

    16:00 Not a techie but my understanding is the "no-load" push/pull removes the tone pot from the circuit to simulate Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstrat wiring, which had just a volume pot wired directly to the output jack (i.e., no tone pot). Supposedly a tone pot adds some resistance even when wide open. Charvel claims the "no-load" feature sounds more like a tone pot-less circuit. I really enjoy my Charvel Pro-Mod and it was interesting to see one broken down and closely inspected. You might consider adding to the title that the video includes a breakdown and close inspection of a Charvel Pro-Mod. Great video! ETA: 18:30 Why do you dislike the wagon wheel truss rod adjuster? I find it effective and convenient (though I think I've only had to tweak the truss rod on mine once in three years).

    Careful what you call counterfeit. ProRockGear is NOT counterfeit, its licensed product. They are distributed by API International that also is the distributor for Floyd Rose in Canada, US etc. if it was counterfeit, Floyd would not be involved with them. Just an FYI.

    • @Metalcop5150
      @Metalcop5150 Před 13 dny

      In my opinion that is a distinction without a difference. A licensed product is not an OEM product, as exampled by 20+ years of licensed Floyd Rose trems. Perhaps counterfeit is too harsh a word to use in this case. Finally, though I didn’t mention it in the video; the ProRockGear piece is NOT “engineered to exacting specifications for retro fit on all Original Floyd Rose Tremelos”?! The spring holes, instead of being located to the front of the block, are drilled in the center of the big brass block and only carefully selected springs (less than 50%) will even fit this piece of licensed gear. In this case if you use real Floyd Rose authentic parts, you won’t have any issues. Thanks for pointing this out to me, I’ll put a note in the description. ✌️

I want the nicest highest clearest resolution pictures as my thumbnails. If i use lower resolutions i notice a definite difference in the thumbnail picture quality. Any help would be greatly appreciate, also if you have any questions to help fix this youtube upside down thumbnails. I don't think the problem is recording with my phone sideways with a tripod. Sometimes i'll keep still video capture pictures from videos of mine to upload to social media and use as CZcams thumbnails and other times i'll take a picture not recording video just take a picture that i'll end up trying to use as a thumbnail i want for whatever video im recording or about to record. • @Metalcop5150
      @Metalcop5150 Před 28 dny

      Try making the subtle changes to your image and then re-saving it in the prescribed orientation. The resolution shouldn't have anything to do with the orientation, only the way that the original image was captured. Also bear in mind if your original video was oriented properly or did you fix it's orientation when you edited? I use a 'sky cam' angle, with my phone mounted flat, facing down on the subject. At times, no matter how I orient the phone, I have to fix the video so that it appears the way I intended, when I am editing the section of video. I have no experience with Android, so unfortunately this is all I can recommend. Good luck.

    You gotta figure that a great number of popular guitars not made in the USA are "Hand Crafted" or whatever in Taiwan. Is it possible that StewMac discovered this tool in Asia? Is it possible the high end Asian guitars are painted on tools just like this? Is it possible StewMac added this popular Asian tool to their catalogue of tools designed for the home pro luthier? Im interested to see if it works for you, but the hatred of Taiwanese built luthier tools is a bit dissapointing. Also....yes, the wheel is plastic. In a completely unrelated topic, Coke changed their recipe in the 1980s because corn syrup sweetner is lighter than regular sugar. Just that change allowed them to stack pallets of coke higher for storage before shipment. Dont know what a wheel made of cheap alloy that would break easily like plastic would weigh. And who knows if Taiwanese guitar builders have a metal version. But there is the stuff on the Seatrain shipment boxes aboard cargo ships. Weight counts.

    • @Metalcop5150
      @Metalcop5150 Před měsícem

      Thanks for watching and your well thought out comment. I *was* disappointed to see that this made in Taiwan. I suppose it would cost twice as much if hand fabricated in the USA. As for the plastic wheel? It’s all about expectations. I bought this from the pictures and descriptions from StewMacs website. You can’t tell that the wheel is plastic and yes, I was expecting something sturdier like aluminum or even a pot metal alloy that would last much longer and be much more durable, contrary to your opinion. I’m also certain that weight has absolutely nothing to do with it! lol Overall I am very happy with the Freehand Holder and the price point was a factor. It does the job it’s supposed to and does it very well. I’m still allowed to be disappointed that it was made in Taiwan and that the wheel is plastic. ✌️

But they did something to make it less slippery in the block? At least in their sales images. My thought is you could possibly rotate the tool in the vice toward you by 90%. That would lower the guitar a bit, move it toward you a tad. You mentioned it was a little high for you? I do aplreciate the apparent amount of adjustability it has. Showing how you were able to switch directions does seem intuitive for better spray space. I made myself the best guitar painting setup I've ever seen or tried. It's just a piece of clothes hanger rod about 18 inches long with a half inch thick, 1 inch wide, 2and1/2 inch long block piece of wood screwed to the flat end of the dowel. the other end of the dowel has a hole drilled through side to side. The block has 2 holes. But I screw the block down into the most center pickup cavity. If you lay the guitar body on its back, it looks like the dowel is projecting straight up towards the ceiling from the cavity. When painting the front, I just hang it from the ceiling with wire through the hole, the other end of the wire is secured to one end of a swivel snap. The other end of the snap is screwed to the ceiling. the swivel snap rotates This allows the guitar to lay flat and rotate easily while you paint the top and easy access to the sides all around. To paint the back, I clamp a piece of metal pipe just a few inches long and slightly larger diameter than the dowel in my vice oriented straight up and down. Insert the dowel, it bottoms out on the vice arm. Now you can paint the back of the guitar and rotate it freely with access to the sides all around. I'll never attach by the neck pocket again. This way gives you SO much more freedom and access.

    • @Metalcop5150
      @Metalcop5150 Před měsícem

      Sounds super complicated AND you’re drilling new holes in the guitar you’re painting? And you can only paint one side at a time?! This jig system is simple and it works. Paint all sides at the same time, easily spinning the guitar with your other hand. All while attaching the guitar through existing holes that are meant to bolt through and hold the entire weight of the guitar. The Freehand holder is simple, inexpensive and honestly the best thing on the market that doesn’t cost $300 or more. I highly recommend it.

      @michaelmoore7975 Před měsícem

      @Metalcop5150 Nah. It's just 2 small holes nobody will ever know about or even see. In the pickup cavity. Under the pickup when assembled. It's not like 6 gaping holes from a lazy tuner swapout. If I wish, I can fill the 2 small holes in the pickup cavity in just a minute or 2 and nobody could tell the difference. But I don't even bother because as of now, nobody has ever said a word. And structurally, I know I'm not telling you anything when I say there is absolutely no weakening of any sort. Nor is there a difference in sound quality. Also, no aesthetic damage of any kind. 2 small holes never seen. I use a Gaahleri dual action pistol grip style gravity feed airbrush to spray paint and clear. By the time the cup is empty is when I reset the guitar to paint the other side. Just grab the dowel and lift it out of the short piece of pipe because the dowel is not clamped. Flip it 180 degrees, lift it another foot and stab the wire through the hole at the end... takes 2 seconds...with one hand. Refill the cup and back to spraying less than 30 seconds. Plus, spraying while flat eliminates any possible runs from paint the collecting and pooling points at the edges of pickup cavities, bridge and tailpiece holes, potentiometer holes, and tremelo routs that occur when painted while in the upright position. Staining is also a breeze. And "super complicated"? C'mon man, let's be real. I have 1 part I clamp in a vice. I have 1 part I attach to the guitar. And 1 part already attached to the ceiling. "Complicated" can be summed up in the number of parts. The sum of mine is 3. And well, I don't think we really need to compare cost. It's just too obvious to deny. But you do you. It looks like you have great results. I will never fault anyone for method if it goes out the door looking great, no matter what that method may be. Question maybe, but never fault. Cheers and keep up the good work.

    How in the world do you tune a non fine tuner Floyd Rose

    • @Metalcop5150
      @Metalcop5150 Před měsícem

      It’s a giant PITA, to be honest. You have to tune (most of) the strings a tad flat so that when you clamp down the locking nut, they’ll inevitably go sharp. It’s not ideal, but it’s what Brad prefers and has on all his guitars. I wanted a hyper accurate replica, so that why I opted to install it! Thanks for watching and commenting. Please consider subscribing as well. 🤘

    Great video.. Great video.. I have a strat I just built, but with a 6 point start trem, but I want a non locking tuner floyd just like brads.. Brad is a hero of mine.. I saw him with Ozzy and have been a huge fan since. . So, I have a warmoth neck with stainless frets.. 22 jumbos and I love it.. How do you once everything installed and strung up .. How do you get the strings in tune once you tighten down the nut? Because it will probably go sharp? Do you loosen the nut and keep adjusting over and over until it stays in tune correctly or does it get in tune and when you lock it down does it not move the strings out of tune? I mean, there was a reason they added fine tuners.. I'm going to have a luthier do mine because I'll mess it up probably if not careful and I don't have all the correct tools.. Great video and I'll check out more.. I subscribed and gave it a thumbs up of course! Very cool.. Thanks and regards from south central Indiana. USA Tim

    • @Metalcop5150
      @Metalcop5150 Před měsícem

      Great, thought out, and we’ll written comment!! Thank you. 🙏 The way I tuned, I actually got tips from Brad Gillis?! In his Hot Guitarist instructional video. 1. You have to stretch the ever living F out of the strings! 2. You have to experiment and see how much the tuning will change, once you tighten the locking nut/clamp. The strings will go sharp or won’t change at all. So you have to tune flat, the right amount so that the clamp will essentially pull the string into tune. I’m not going to lie; it’s a giant PITA! The good thing about a non fine tuning Floyd is that if you get sick of the tuning woes, a fine tuning version will drop right in. In all honesty, I won’t use a non fine-tuning Floyd. I made this guitar to sell, (it sold in a day!!) so I made it a hyper accurate replica. Love to know how your guitar turns out. Truly appreciate the support, my friend. 🤘😎🤘

I'm going to try it for awhile with the gotoh steel 6 point trem and graphite nut I have now as well as staggered locking tuners. No string tree to get in the way and cause problems.. I like Floyd's with fine tuners as well. I have a Charvel with a factory Schaller Floyd and it stays in tune if you throw the guitar against the wall. It just doesn't go out of tune, but since Floyd rose reissued the non fine tuner I just love the profile and how well it works and less to go wrong. Just a cool trem. That guitar was so cool. I love them because I hate being shocked and back in the day I was shocked a couple times with bad wiring in an old club where I was in a band and jamming. Passives make you the ground as you probably know when you touch the strings which makes me very very nervous and EMGs don't do that because they are internally ground. I also use a wireless system as well which works with Passives when I use a guitar with them. I like them a little better in some ways, but I also love the EMGs. An 85 in the bridge and a 60 in the neck which does blues stuff so well. Both do really and active tome controls that really do something besides just roll of treble. Plus , you can use 1600 feet of cord and won't lose treble or tone. The preamp drives the signal so good... Plus, for 80s metal ballads and hard rock and blues they sound great. I've installed about a dozen of these and never had that issue you explained with the seatbelt sheet metal. As for drilling the holes, yup, its tricky. They sell a 90 degree drill adaptor at harbor freight. Regular length drill bits will work. Just mark the holes with a marker while the roll bar is bolted in at the seatbelt bolts and you'll be fine. Cheers!

    • @Metalcop5150

      Yeah that seatbelt issue was weird, but legit. The bolt just kept threading in the hole and the bracket and they just kept fighting each other. It really wasn’t a big deal. Once I got them apart I simply enlarged the hole in the seatbelt bracket, so the bolt would easily pass through. I used a DeWalt right angle adapter as shown in the video. It worked great. It does only use hex bits, but I have a full set of them. Thanks for watching and commenting! Please consider subscribing. ✌️

    I have a 1989 Charvel 275 (pointy headstock, HS configuration) that despite the “Charvel, Fort Worth, TX” neck plate, is really an MIJ guitar. I know from my 1985 Fender MIJ HSS made by FujiGen that 1980s MIJ guitars are more often than not better than “Made in the USA” guitars of the same vintage (exceptions for PRS and a few other brands who were making amazing guitars at the time.). My wife traded somebody advertising for it, and it was really far from stock. So I’ve decided to tear it apart and EVH it. But with my own colors - Blue, green and teal. I’ve already bought some parts, and I’m putting a Suhr Thornbucker and V63 in it, but this video is really useful as a reference for me, having never “built” only repaired guitars. OMG - a GK! I used one of those as my power amp, the rack mounted model with no speakers, along with a rack mounted ART SGX-2000 Express tube preamp effects unit, a rack mounted tuner and a rack Alesis Quardaverb to power a Mesa 4x12 with EVs (the cab with the metal grate) for a decade.

    Cool info! I have a 2010 Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro I that I bought new. It was a run GuitarDenter did with Gibson that spec’d a Traditional (the standard prior to 2008) - in 2008 they chambered the standard and started screwing around with the electronics. The Les Paul Trad Pro I is a two piece Mahogany body, plain top, classic ‘57 in the neck and a Burstbucker 3 in the Bridge with coil taps on the volume knobs. As long as I’ve been playing and setting up guitars, I can never remember which way the bridge screws point. The info about the direction of the saddle angles is really useful. I made a mistake, thinking I would “improve the tone” (it made literally no difference to my ears) of replacing the stock tailpiece with a 50s correct aluminum one. It worked, but the tailpiece was about 1/8” thinner so it sat at a slight angle. As OCD as I usually am, it never occurred to me to buy posts that fit the tailpiece properly. I believe after 5 years I started to notice a finish crack on the bottom of the treble side post. The tailpiece angle was causing unhealthy tension on the post, which fortunately only affected the finish, not the wood - phew 😅. The original went back on pronto. Huge Sykes fan - love the Sykes spec!

      That’s an issue w/ the nut. It sounds like the slot may be cut too deep? I’ve seen the slot built back up w/ super glue and baking soda, then filed back to the proper height. If you’re not comfortable filing the nut, modifying it, or don’t have the nut files? I would take it to a qualified repair person. I wouldn’t want to replace the nut, on what sounds like an otherwise perfect guitar. Adding a bit of height in that low E string slot is really your best, and only option. Good luck.
