Fr Oswald 'Becoming Pilgrims of Hope'
The Holy Father has announced that next year's Jubilee will take the theme "Pilgrims of Hope". In this Home Retreat, Fr Oswald will reflect on pilgrimage, and how we might prepare in this year of prayer for our celebration of the great Jubilee of 2025.

He is so so exceptional. I urge Ampleforth CZcams to start a lecture playlist and get Dom Henry to go over his old scripture lecture notes… it would be a resource of almost limitless value

Love your talks Fr Cedd And the texts you add too! The talks about the life of monasticism are so relatable and are helping me so much in my life. I am always struck by how the experiences of ancient writers are no different to ours today.

I have shared this talk and made my teenage sons listen to it because I found it so comforting for the soul. It's a perfect talk to start your Advent journey, profound yet accessible to all across ages and faith journey. Thank you Fr. Kevin

I had to listen to this talk 4 times, because it has so much. I really want to keep abbot Robert's words about mass and the Holy Eucharist engraved in my soul. I don't want to get distracted at mass ever again. Thank you for this Home Retreat videos, they are so powerful.

As we near the close of 2023 and terrible things are happening in the Holy Land I can't express how valuable these words have been. I don't know if anyone will even get to read this message, but I'm sending warm thoughts and blessings to all at Ampleforth. These videos are wonderful to hear even in the future! Timeless like God Himself.

How well you describe our meandering journey! Lost in the past or rushing to the future, one misses so many opportunities, or invitations. No wonder St.Benefict begs us to LISTEN, and one can only do that in the quiet and on the slow lane. Thank you Fr. Kevin! Thank you for reminding God bless you and your journey!!

Fr Christopher your passion and knowledge of this subject is overwhelming. We all do need to change and I think working together is very important.....however we still act out things in life individually......we worked together through Covid but have sadly gone back to being individual again in our own environments......if we can work more on community (thats every day and not just on a Sunday in Church) then I think all respect of environment and contribution to our world will fall into place. It's those 'Little ways of love' that need to change......I pray we can all do this for the common good of Gods kingdom here on earth.....thank you once again, you inspire lots of emotion and thought provoking feelings. Warmest blessings always x

Many thanks. I've been in Italy since Covid and your livestream has been incredibly important. I attend Mass locally but Italian homilies are, well, long and difficult, especially at 9 am. Ampleforth and (spoiler alert) Blackfriars Oxford fill the gap, and not just on Sundays. Looking back to unusual venues for Mass reminded me of attending one in the parish church in a 15th floor flat of a block of flats in Hong Kong. c. 1960. And in Royal Navy chapels of incredible variety, such as Singapore once with swirling curtains and monsoon rain lashing down - homily curtailed. Italian churches can hardly compare. Blessings on your Jubilee.

Thank you Father Chad for an inspiring home retreat. I hope the sunday mass will continue on line. At the moment i have my leg in a plaster cast due to a broken ankle requiring an operation. I will be out of action for a few months, my Husband dosnt drive so I am unable to go to church if mass wasnt on line I would feel something is missing my life. Also we have recently returned from holiday in Greece while staying on small Island we watched and felt part of Ampleforth Abdeys mass. It was lovely to know we hadn’t miss mass. Thank you again

When Our Lord was asked why it was His disciples did not fast, He answered that we would fast when the Bridegroom was withdrawn. Withdrawn. Withdrawn by a stroke, withdrawn by heart attack, or a car wreck that left the driver without a scratch but with no means to even get groceries. Withdrawn by uncontrolled diabetes, withdrawn by IBS, withdrawn by a flood or a hurricane… by a mismanaged retirement fund…. withdrawn - that leads to a fast the none prepared us for. None! None even hinted at the possibility… until Covid! but yet Our Lord cautioned that we would indeed know fasting. And we could recognize Him in our burning hearts when we encountered Him on the Road to Emmaus.

  • @chapelofthebeatitudes376

I remember the years of being a sacristan, a lector, an extraordinary minister. I remember formulating a Communion Service in a Nursing Home where a quadriplegic accident victim was our lector - if someone held the book for him. And I too sat in the back of that same chapel in Calcutta, road in the back of the van with the nuns, praying the rosary in route to the House of the Dying. With each decade I witnessed women dying to self so they might serve with purity of heart. I remember walking 6 miles one way to pray Liturgy of the Hours in Community - just to know the experience in physical community, as no one would teach me. I learned through the experience informed by the Holy Spirit. There was never any doubt of through Him, with Him and in Him because the greater-than-ness of Our Lord Jesus Christ continues to enlarge and include all aspects of creation. And so, forgive my boldness when I say…

  • @chapelofthebeatitudes376

Dear - Dear - Dear Fr. Chad oh how nimbly you muddle together “won’t” with “can’t”. I press the difference because until you, as the face of the Church in this moment, fail to grasp the need for ministry to the “can’t come to the pew” we will be abandoned. As as Cistercian said to me as we pondered the need “It is a shame to get this far only to lose faith.” So I am a voice crying in the wilderness in behalf of the “can’t come”. As profoundly beautiful as this retreat is -you completely exclude ministry to the “can’t come” for your scope of Communion. Is it too many centuries of the Holy being stopped by the church doors that renders us so skillful in othering neighbors and compels our dismissiveness to all but the bipeds we may encounter? 71.5 million over 65 in just the US. in only 8 yrs. Mobility limitations imposed socially, economically and physically is one of the 3 primary conditions the “can’t -s” endure. How glibly you skipped by such as us. As huge a heart as yours still needs to stretch to include us.

Thank you for this. Experience through various careers has taught me that encouragement is so so important and yet so underused. Encouragement is THE key to flourishment. So many resort to criticism at the first opportunity. So many feel the need to dismiss contributions made by others in the hope of appearing somewhat superior. It is a deadly disease and destroys souls. Dear friends, always always love and encourage others - even when you disagree with them! Then you will find joy and the Kingdom will have grown just a little bit more! xxx
