      Yes and no. You can still turn it off and on. Air mode keeps your props at a set Idle speed with throttle stick at zero. This literally has nothing to do with this video though. I still run an idle at min throttle. What these settings do is give you the option of turning off the pid loop so gyro isn't trying to control things. As soon as I turn up my throttle stick I have air mode and gyro.

      It is. Air mode only works in the third position. The second position is air mode off and pid loop off so if you bounce a landing the quad don't react and throttle up all crazy. I don’t know if things changed since this video was posted but using your setup it worked as expected. But even at low throttle without the pid active the motors still have a lot of strength and I don’t think I could stop them with my hand like you do. Did you lower your idle speed or something else to be able to stop the motors that easily without pid?

    • @dustinbailey1980
      @dustinbailey1980 Před 2 lety

      It is possible that a newer version of betaflight has changed something that I'm unaware of but no what enables you to stop the motor is that the gyro doesn't try to correct for that motor RPM changing it lets you stop it freely because it's not in a pit loop

    This is amazing XSG! It's my first time hearing about IDLE UP. I have a question though. I have quad with AIRMODE ON. Today, I was flying low maybe about 30-40mph and quad went too low and I hit the lawn. The quad went nuts! It flew up and got itself stuck in a tree. If I was using IDLE-UP, will the same thing happen?

    • @dustinbailey1980
      @dustinbailey1980 Před 3 lety

      Well yes. Once your up and flying you want to use airmode. This keeps the props spinning to sort of float, or defy gravity if you will. Say your going to do a barrel roll. You'll blip the throttle up and then drop the throttle as you roll and then come back smoothly on the throttle. Without airmode it would start to drop very quickly and reduce the amount of roll control you have. Now what happened to you is best avoided by a quick disarm toggle. The gyro was trying to correct the quad that's why it went out of control. In a crash I like to just quickly disarm. Idle up mode will turn off gyro but leave the props idling, sometimes when you land if it's kinda shaky the gyro will actually throttle up for you and try to adjust. Idle up turns that off so even if you land a bit rough you just pull the throttle down and it will land and if a prop hits something it will just stop.

    • @neilfpv
      @neilfpv Před 3 lety

      @@dustinbailey1980 oh got it. I had a wrong understanding of AIRMODE on other videos I saw. I honestly thought that with AIRMODE OFF, we will be able to fly like we used to but with the benefit of quad not going nuts when we bump on something. That's what I was thinking the other youtubers were trying say about AIRMODE OFF. It looks like AIRMODE OFF is beneficial during arming and also when you like to check props. Btw, this was my crash today - czcams.com/video/dkv5Ahj2a-U/video.html And yes, I quickly disarmed it when I knew it crashed. It stopped the props. Is this a good idea? I'll turn off AIRMODE when throttle is at 5%. Thank you so much for responding right away! Really appreciate it.
