18 Hours: A Day In The Life of A Minister
I posted my first "Day in the Life" video in 2015. Many people have since asked how my schedule has changed since I changed ministries.
Here is a second "Day in the Life" video. This was shot some time ago soon after I went back to MHA. But I held it back, to sense the experience at MHA for a longer period, before posting it.
Now sharing the completed video with everyone. Thanks to the volunteers who helped in this.

The Innocent Victims of Drug Abuse
zhlédnutí 12KPřed 6 lety
[ Drugs harm our children ] A good video, showing the harm caused by drugs. Babies are born addicted to heroin in America. And there are children among the 64,000 drug overdose deaths in 2016 in the United States. Children in Singapore have also been hurt, even killed by adults (who were looking after the children) - because the adults were on drugs.

Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year

2015 had always promised to be a year full of memories and events. 50 years of Nationhood, 50 years of a young nation building itself up. But of course, beyond SG50, what we will all remember most is when the nation came to a standstill, that one week in march when our founding Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew passed away. It made all of us, all Singaporeans stop, reflect, think and come to a mo...

I spoke at a forum at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) recently. We covered a broad range of issues, including Singapore’s relations with the US, and regional developments, including the US’ relations with Asia. I emphasized the strategic importance of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) to the US’ engagement of Asia and said that it was absolutely vital to get the TPP ...

Last year, some of my volunteers came up with the idea of capturing on video, a day in my life. We did it in October 2014. I have put the photos from that day on my Instagram ( kshanmugam_). Here is a video of the day's events.

Today, as many of us wake up on Hari Raya Day, there is plenty to look forward to! Our Muslim friends will go to the mosque to pray, while the young ones look forward to "duit raya" and new clothes! We Singaporeans enjoy celebrating all festivals, including Hari Raya. During Hari Raya, we get treated to the warmth and hospitality of our Muslim residents. It is also a period of reflection. Conversations: The Crisis in Ukraine
zhlédnutí 1,5KPřed 10 lety
Singapore has taken a very principled stand with regards to the crisis in Ukraine and Crimea. For us, the principle is clear. Territorial integrity and sovereignty are fundamental, and we do not agree to, nor do we think that the world should stand by and watch when there is a breach of that sovereignty or territorial integrity. Recently, I participated in a dialogue session with the Foreign Co...
Good People in Government

"It does not matter who you vote for, but choose good people!" Like all Singaporeans, I firmly believe in the need for voting in good people into a clear majority, ensuring political stability such that future governments can engage in long term planning.

Hella propaganda lol. the war on drugs has been an epic failure across the world. The war on drugs has destroyed, decimated, and killed far more lives than drugs have. You act like you care about saving lives from drug abuse, so if you catch someone with drugs you're gonna kidnap them at gunpoint and lock them in cage and torture them or even kill them :| Stop your pathetic excuses for authoritarianism.

Alcohol has the same potential to destroy thousands of lives and families just as much as illegal drugs if not worse. Alcohol causes road accidents, violent crimes and irrationale behavior such as sexual assault. Please ban alcohol too.

Is there any proof that the death penalty is an effective deterrent? Even after so many years, it seems like the supply and demand for drugs has been increasing.

What if a former drug user still consumes alcohol occasionally, is that also considered a relapse since alcohol is also a recreational drug? Or is that considered acceptable because alcohol is not illegal?

In many countries around the world, cannabis is legalized for recreational use. In Singapore however, the government has executed people for cannabis trafficking. So how is that even justified?

  • @qdgnd

The death penalty is a harsh and ineffective punishment that disproportionately affects marginalized communities, and there is little evidence to suggest that the death penalty is an effective deterrent for drug trafficking.

  • @isaaccheungseojin5658

The world should learn from Singapore when it comes to drug trafficking and abuse.

The fact they included weed here is preposterous. Opiates and synthetic drugs are the problem. Don’t even compare the two

I watched the failure of Canada's leniency on drugs first hand. I wish we had Singapore's tough on drugs policy. Having drug laws with no consequences is madness. My wife's drug use was certainly not victimless. It definitely had an adverse impact on our four children, and I. I beg your country to continue to be a beacon for drug control policy. Please, resist the external pressures to change. Your laws show that you place the wellbeing and safety of children and families first. Thank you for being what Ronald Reagan would call a shining city on the hill. Long live Singapore.

Death penalty as a deterrence, even that is so there would be a thorough case review before such a ruling is made.
