Use Multiple Woods in a Carving with Joinery
Brief demonstration of how I use multiple woods with a Kirby carving, using NZ Totara and Sapele. I love doing this to achieve a natural contrast in colour and texture in my pieces whilst retaining the wooden aesthetic. Here I'm using Starbond Gap Filler Thick CA Glue, along with their accelerator. Full disclosure, Starbond sent me this product for free, however I only use products I actually like.

So getting personal in this one. I'm stuck in the USA in the middle of this Coronavirus pandemic halfway through a 6 month trip in a camper van that we built ourselves while still living in Canada. This is hardly the #vanlife, but I'm still making do and thought it might pay to show everyone how I've been coping and carving. Finishing your Woodcarvings with Odies Oil

In this video we're covering one of my favourite new finishes, Odies Oil, and how to use it for Woodcarvings and wooden figures. Odies is a hardwax oil (Like Osmo, Rubio etc) and works by applying and then buffing off to a nice polish, giving a real natural finish. This is pretty different compared to traditional finishing methods and works great when you have natural hardwoods on display. The ...

Thank for this video. Was asked to carve some wooden balls and spoons for a children's bare-foot-obstacle-course. The course has to been navigated with the spoon in hand while keeping the ball on the spoon the whole time. Spoons, I make all the time but a round ball was my first. Went the geometric route instead of the cylinder and i think the cylinder is easier to keep track of where you are (as in how much is there still to cut away). The technique for feeling the high-points and knocking them down works very well. Made three knife-handles with it by starting with a rectangular piece; holding it in your hand like you would use it as a handle; noticing the sharp corners and everything that didn't feel comfortable to my hand and cut that bit off; rinse repeat. After a few thousand fittings and cuttings, ended up with knife-handles that perfectly fit my left hand.

Maybe you can help me, I'm trying to figure out how to inlay a tear drop shaped object into a peice of ebony wood as a gift for my wife. Normally im a power tool guy, but im stuck on this. Im worried a power yool even a Dremel wont be edge accurate for this odd 3d shaped inlay. im setting a peice of lapis into a square of ebony the top center of a jewelry box made of olive wood. But i am stuck on how to do it. The ebony is square so no problems on that i can use my router table to get that to a flawless fit... But thats why i chose that way in addition of the nice contrast i hope to get between the light olive wood and the dark ebony and the lapis
