@Saymalii I can only partially agree with some of your commentary in your video. Agreed, there are significant differences between ships company and squadron AO's. Although, there is much more in the community that you're not describing. Shore billets and ships company billets, equitably are also not the same. May I also poont out AIMD at sea and ashore, likewise are incredibly different. As for daily to weekly tasks [and beyond], the 3M maintenance system is extremely active on board, as with aircraft maintenance. I served 1989-1999, NAS Fallon Weapons BA/RA, Admin and QA Logistics. Atop, being an AOAN, assigned as Transportation P.O. [dailies and maintenance scheduling/repairs of 8 4k electric forklifs, 2 6k electric forklifts, 4 6k RT forklifts, 3 semi tractors, 2 flatbed trailers, 2 beavertail trailers, 8 stake bed trucks, 5 1/2 ton pick up trucks, 4 vans, 10 JG-40 tow tractors], assisted with plant equipment maintenance and inventory, alongside duties of ordnance build ups and break downs (as applicable), munitions transport throughout the base as well as deliveries off base, receiving varying ordnance and related components via tractor/trailer deliveries and much more. We did have a pretty well oiled process and tight knit group throughout all of our Divisions. I cannot speak on AIMD; either ashore or afloat, I did not pull such a billet. Yet, have worked closely with AO counterparts in that capacity. Onward to the USS Nimitz (CVN-68), G-3, G-3 D.C and WEPS D.C. Again, build ups, break downs (as applicable), but then the maintenance requirements via Mag series or on the D.C. side definitely contained their requirements. Assisting other series in their activities; as needed, our group was relatively tight and successful in our endeavors. The adjoining with others from other departments throughout the ship while engaged in the IFP [In Port Fire Party] allowed a broader scope of bonding with your entire crew. Also participating in the SAF [Ship's Augmentation Force; security detail] aligned even more unity with other crew members. As it comes to squadron life, each aircraft type has their own bonds too. Similarities, but grand differences. I have worked with EA-6B's [VAQ-129], P-3's [VP-69] and F-18's VFA-204]. Each shack had their own style and complexities of comoradery. As for the tools, I don't believe I EVER heard of a 'pass' for a missing tool. No matter where or what capacity, FOD is an absolute issue to ward away from. The potential of a FOD incident is not only isolated to aircraft. Any system or equipment can become damaged and potentially cause harm, if tools, equipment and materials are not meticulously accounted for. Even 25 years after being discharged from active service, I personally strive to maintain that meticulous approach to tools, materials and equipment, especially at clean up. Our rate is filled with some of the best, the Navy has ever had. Our brothers and sisters; no mater what billet(s) they've held, remain AO's!! IYAOYAS!!!

82 to 92 AO on the west side, here's how I did it and not a lot of sea duty.Sea/shore rotation back then was four sea two shore.First duty station out of A school was shore duty because of high grades at A school,it was AIMD Lemoore,Ca.Worked on bomb racks, missle launchers and m61a1 20 mm gun. That was two years.Next was magazine duty at Diego Garcia for a year and I extended for another year. That counted for sea duty and I got a cash bonus and free thirty days basket leave for that.I burned up the extra leave by taking a C-141 flight to Clark Air base Philippines for a week every three months.Came back to NAS Lemoore and joined VA-97 Warhawks with the old venerable A-7 for two years.Did some work ups at fallon Nevada then went on my first west-pac cruise.Ended up going on another west-pac cruise with them but transitioned out halfway through for shore orders.Finished my ten year career back at strike fighter weapons school as a nuclear and conventional weapons loading instructor/inspector in lemoore.Actually only did less than two years sea duty that way.Had I stayed in I would have gone back to my squadron for four years sea duty and they were in the middle of transitioning to the legacy hornets. All in all a really fun ride and would do it again! IYAOYAS 🧙‍♂️

Good evening, I have a question. I plan on doing core, but my end goal is IP. I've researched the likeability of someone in my rate to get picked for IP, and I know it decreases my chances of getting accepted significantly. So the question is, on my personal statement, should I have core and not mention IP, or have IP but let the reader know I'm going into the core program? God Bless.

Squadrons and Ship's are all the buzz. Honestly, if you can get a billet to NAS Fallon Weapons, take it!! The vast knowledge and experience you gain can be highly instrumental throughout your career. As well as the various contacts you can acquire throughout the entire AO community. After that, hop to a ship and then later a squadron.

Program is only good for those with associate degrees, and you have to get through (NAVY OCS). If you have to go through OCS, you should just go Air Force...this is why, If you have a bachelor's degree...go in the Air Force as a Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Operator (pilot) !!! No ship duty and guaranteed 3 promotions in your first 4 years (01-03). What the Navy does not tell you is if you are coming in with no prior service...your first promotion won't happen for 12 years to W2........WTH? Your first assignment is at sea guaranteed. Also warrant pilots are looked down at and treated different in Navy aviation (2nd class citizens) If you Go AF: You will be a Major (04 on pay chart) in 12 years ...compare W2 and O4 Pay....this program is great for already enlisted members but terrible for civilians. The Air Force is a better life and NO SEA DUTY...If you have to go through OCS, anyway, might as well just do it and get a commission instead of a warrant. AIM HIGH...see your local AF Recruiter...If you have an associate degree and are a civilian (or in the Navy getting ready to get out) go to the nearest AFROTC unit at the University...in 2 years, you can have a Bachelors and a commission in the AF.....JUST SAYING (W2 at 12yrs 5,704.50) (04 Major at 12 yrs. 8,665.50) Just plain common sense here.
