    In Greenville County, S.C. Fireworks legal from 10:00 a.m. on the 4th until 1:00 a.m. on the 5th. I really wish states would make these illegal or like Massachusetts who only allows them at gatherings in public places, no individuals from their homes. I open the double gates to my back pasture where there are woods on one side and a few acres of woods in the back which runs into power lines and more woods. The other side only has a grove of trees. With the double gates open they can come into the 1 acre dry lot where there is a 3-sided shelter and a 12' overhang. My horses and 2 of my dogs are not happy about fireworks at all. Neither am I! I dread every July 4th because I know what I have to contend with, and leaving home is out of the question since I would never leave them on such a crazy night. Thanks for the informative video!

    This is so interesting, thank you! I like horses but don't know about them, I have more knowledge on dogs and wolves. And thus, I've been surprised to see that the alpha mare is managing it in a (seemingly) paceful way, without aggression. Is that the norm or depends on the situations and horses involved?

    • @Americandreamfarm
      @Americandreamfarm Před 10 hodinami

      It does depend on the situation. Fleur sometimes has to use a heavier hand. She understands the weight of the situation and handled it perfectly.

    Yes, black is one of the base colors that Appaloosa horses can have. Other base colors include bay, chestnut, palomino, buckskin, cremello, perlino, roan, gray, dun, and grulla. Appaloosas are also known for their unique spotting patterns, which are collectively called the "leopard complex". These patterns can range from light or dark spots to snowflakes, which are white flecks or spots on a dark body.

  • @SaturnGrl
    @SaturnGrl Před 20 hodinami

    The fact that folks are just throwing around the word "alpha" like its a common thing is annoying. Horses do not have an "Alpha", but a Dominant Mare, a Matriarch. Its the same for many other mammals, there is no Alpha. When using the word Alpha when referencing a group of animals, it indicates there is one breeding male/female, and they control the herd/pack activities. This was only observed in canine and wolves in captivity, and was proven to not be a natural social activity in the wild. Wolves and dogs developed alpha packs due to limited space and the idea of limited food, because they were fed by their keepers. They didn't go and actively hunt and have a carcass to return to time and time again to eat. So the strongest male and female would establish no breeding aside from their cubs to ensure the strength of the pack would remain strong, and not overpopulate their limited space. With horses, the dominant female maintains the social structure of the herd, but does not exclude her fellow herd mates to have foals. She doesn't go around stomping out other foals because her foal is the herd priority. So there is no Alpha.

    Nice mare! We rescued a solid chestnut foal 24 years ago. She has a small snip and one white foot. At 7 years old she had this white spot at the top of her tail. As the years went on the spot got larger and she got mottling on her nose and yes she did have stripped hooves but at the time I did t out 2 and 2 togather. Every year she got more white and her plain almost ugly chestnut color changed to this beautiful almost black chestnut with copper highlights on the lower legs. She even got a few small black spots and the sides of her butt but she looks like a varnish appy now. She’s a really pretty girl. Very nice QH type head and conformation. She came off a truck coming from the west coast of Canada and was stuffed in with all adult horses. I later found out there was a appy farm there that the owners were really old and had to let some horses go and her sons were selling the rest off. One was a mare that could have been her double. I suspect it was her Dam as no other mares resembled her and the stallion they used did t look a thong like her either. They had some nice horses but I think some ended up on meat trucks back then. This mares had a spoiled life and now runs the roost of what was a Morgan horse farm. She outlived them all! We have her and 3 boarders now.

    I used to raise merle Pomeranians. They often come out black, but are actually merle. Imagine if animal coats were a piece of spotted cloth, some spots bigger, some smaller. If your animal was cut from the area of one big spot, it would only be that color, maybe w/ a blaze, or white toes, ets. It's still the same cloth. Your horse is still an Appy. Here's how to tell: take a pic of your horse in an average lit area, and make sure your flash is on. The spots should reflect differently than the other black. I had to take pics of litters to see which were merles and which were black if they didn't have any blue. You could only see black spots in a black coat w/ a flash. Black Pom now 19 w/ merle feet and chest.Try it. Might get a surprise.😊 Good luck.
