The Makitaputer - DIY Cyberdeck PC in a Makita toolbox
An old Makita drill toolbox and a handful of colour-matched computer components.... I had to build a Cyberdeck! Linux Kali, despite being complex and unsuitable for my novice Linux skills seemed the perfect OS for this weird contraption.

Super bad ass!! Great build. I just had a son and my mind is brainstorming all of these cool projects. Your son’s MX350 looks dope. Looks like he thinks your an awesome dad, too
Cheers man! Was a fun project and it's been super rewarding! All the best with your little one!
MAN! PLEASE use a rubber mallet in lieu of the butt of your hand.
😉 hehe
New wheels and tyres but looks like you didn’t change the brake blocks. Any reason why?
I don't recall exactly, but I may have changed them out for some spare used ones. In this case I knew I was selling it, so didn't want to unnecessarily spend. I'd probably get in the habit of re-facing used pads at a minimum in the future
What quil stem adaptor are you using ?
Just a generic eBay stem, nothing special. That's why it didn't fit so good and needed some encouragement haha
nice build
Cheers! Hopefully swap to a spare laptop eDP panel and a driver board, to give me a bit more screen real estate, and might fit some more peripherals in too!
Nice
I think its great man. Sometimes its all about the journey not the destination, ya know? I get it bro. Subscribed.
Thanks man! Absolutely, its just fun building stuff!
Dude, cool! Very honest review supplied by yourself at the end. Just about true. Perhaps if a battery and some speakers could be added, I would consider it a fun tradie computer to bring along for watching youtube videos on the site, at lunch time.
Cheers man! It's got speakers but they're not very loud :) suppose you could even Bluetooth to a UE boom or something. Or a matching Makita speaker! 😂
@@conroe_au The possibilities are endless! (Within boundaries)
Wish I could find these parts.on Amazon in America. Not sure what to get
I reckon you should be able to find them on Amazon! Tough getting parts in Aus
how fast does it go
Not sure hey! Maybe 20/25kmh?
Where did you get that angled connector for the front brake cable hangar? I need one of those!
Came from AliExpress if I remember correctly!
how fast does it go?
I haven't measured but I reckon I can go about 30kmh (20mph) on flat. Kids might be faster
@@conroe_aualright thanks!
I recently saved one of these, repasted and upgraded to 16gb ram as well as an SSD and a 1050Ti, it was great seeing it come back to life.
Awesome! Still such a great machine
Working on one currently. I'm afraid to take the leap, i have an Asus B550 motherboard, am i able to put it in the x51?
@@matthewtaylor2040 ooh good question. It would depend whether the power supply will support it. I went the other way obviously, pulling the board out of the case. Is your b550 an itx board?
Did you put 26's back on or do the fatty tires make it look 650bish? Recently got an old rockhopper and was wondering how well they would fit (clearance wise, not brake wise)
Just 26" on this one :) I did a 650b conversion on a GT, but did a disc conversion as well which made it easier to deal with the brakes. Love it!
@@conroe_au Pretty Sweet. Thanks for the info dude.
Came out nice but I can’t believe someone would fit a front mudguard using self tapping screws.. that’s criminal.
Horrible hey 😭
I want to update my old 93 Bianchi ocelot.
Sounds awesome! Keen to see it!
So cool!
just throw it in the trash
Nice video! I got a 95 Rockhopper Comp from my brother-in-law. He got the frame from a distributor and built it up with cool stuff from the shops parts bin. Too small so it’s a display piece with 90’s anodized components.
Oh man that sounds awesome!
You think it would handle 48v?
I reckon it'd be too much of a push. Probs could with the bigger carts
@@conroe_au how long the battery last?
@@jeremiahmurphymedia4487 I never really tested it sorry, and sold recently! In theory, it's a 160Wh battery (36v 4.4ah) and the 250w motor is likely around 550w at 36v, so, about 20min at full throttle, but realistically you're not constantly at full throttle and you don't get full battery capacity. I'd say 20-30mins prob!
Every biker's story begins with his dad helping him to rebuild a bike
Ain't that true! Cheers for engaging!
you have your PSU fan facing up , pulling air from the gpus cool air supply to ITs fans, turn it so the fan on psu faces down and pulls cool air from under the case and expels it directly out the back , thus leaving the gpu to have the cool intake air from front fans :D
Fair point! This machine is long gone, but it'd be interesting to compare the GPU temp under testing in both configurations
Underated chanel
Cheers mate!
So all you did was change battery
And the controller, and the throttle, and speed attenuator, and voltmeter. Essentially yes, that's all that's necessary.
Unsure if you've watched the video but the detail is there, and some in the description
haha I love stuff like this. Lot of people are really sterile and corporate with their rack & hardware. Hell, I love customization, sticker bombing cases, RGB all that.
Cheers dude!
Noticed you stuck with the square taper bb. I picked up an 89 hardrock in perfect working order a few years back and have built up the bike around the stock drivetrain just because I thought the 3x7 was endearing. Now I'm looking at replacing it before I ruin it with more technical riding and want to go to a hollowtech bb with new cranks for a 1x. Any advice on maintaining the chainline when switching out everything? Will any mtn crankset work as long as I use the spacers correctly or do I need to find a crankset with a specific offset?
More or less, yeah! I've built similar with hollowtechs before. I assume you'll have a 68mm bottom bracket shell so get the right bottom bracket and standard cranks, not the uncommon boost spacing ones etc and you should be right. I've often run a single ring on triple ring cranks so I have the adjustment of using the 2nd or 3rd ring position too
That bike is hard! 🔥
Cheers!
Is the 660 motherboard a mini itx iv been trying to figure out for the longest time if i could case swap and how was the i7 3770 in it, was reading mixed reviews on the i7 3770 going into the 660 but figured if it fits it sits!
Man I reckon the 3770 is pretty decent for the age! I don't remember exac but reckon it was probably an mATX board
👍
Bruh lol that’s basically building a new computer
Were you surprised by the content of a video with the title "PC Transformation"?
Do you need a different psu
Yes you do. The factory one can't be mounted in an ATX arrangement and doesn't have enough power for the GPU
@@conroe_au ok
@Conroe Can I do this method with an Alienware X51 R3? Thanks 👍🙂
I'm not sure sorry! But keep me updated if you do :)

I just do my old mtb almost the same. great video!

today i put the maxxi 26x2.3 .....looks amazing@@conroe_au
Nice work! I picked up one of these old Rockhoppers with front suspension for $10 at a garage sale. The bottom crank bearing was shot but was rusted in place. Even the local bike shop couldn't remove it. Seat post was also rusted into place so I stripped the bike and reused the parts on another project bike. Then sold off the balance of parts.
Nice mate! Shame the frame couldn't be recovered:(
nice way to hammer in that stem handle bar combo
Gotta do what you gotta do. Stem adaptor was poorly manufactured. That was even after flaring the stem open to fit the adaptor
Great job bringing what looked like a bit of a mess back to life. I've just done the same thing with a Specializes Hard Rock turning it into a 1 x 8 and it looks nice. Put on some Billy Bunker tires which gave me a hard time fitting to the rims. Also need to work on the shifting as it's not going through all the gears.
Awesome mate! Sounds like a great project. Thanks for the compliment!
Hi bro, how u connect front panel 2.0 usb port? It only have 3.0 port on the motherbpard right?
Hey mate, you can get adaptors off ebay :) Look up usb2.0 to usb3.0 converter and make sure it has the large usb3 plug and a smaller usb2.0 socket
Hey man just curious do you use a Samsung 870 evo? Sata3? I'm trying to upgrade a few things on mine
