I’m 72 and when I’d sing this song at karaoke I would choke with tears😢 “I ran so fast that time and youth ran out, I never stopped to think what life was all about…”
Such a beautiful song sung by a guy with a rich voice, I loved watching Roy Clark on Hee Haw and then sing a song in all seriousness. It’s sad that he’s no longer with us.
Roy Clark was a national treasure. I think he was underappreciated. not many knew how much of a master he was musical instruments. Had such a great voice to and sing so many great songs such as this one.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written and of course immortalized for us Americans by Roy Clark in 1969. I've always loved that song. Roy sang that at Mickey Mantle's funeral per Mickey's request.
To everyone’s comments… you did the best you knew how to do at the time. We’re here to learn and grow, and we don’t learn or grow during the happy times. The whole journey is beautiful, even the worst of it.
Had a pussy-in‐law name o andy sweetie pie cookie from callahan fl. My daddy offered steak. Queer mama boy picked biggest piece o meat. 2 bites he was asleep. What a Douche
I shared this link recently with a young (30-something ... it's all relative) coworker. She quickly wrote back, "How old is this? LOL." A few minutes passed before I received her next message. "Oh my god! This speaks to my soul!!!" Yeah? Wait until you get to be my age, young lady.
Roy Clark, beautiful voice sang with his ❤️💜💜💜❤️❤️❤️ beautiful I always loved your talent, beautiful person, beautiful man.....R.I.P. MR. ROY CLARK❤❤❤❤A FAITHFUL FAN,Helen
I'm almost 70 years old and walking with Jesus for almost 40 years and this song summarizes what my life was like before I met my Lord Savior oh how I wasted my youth and now I'm to old
If ever a lyric were cut, and made from The Purest of life's Reality,, this would be it. Time,, oh Time and this turbulent life,, how is speeds by . We are just aimless Ships on this sea of storms,, awaiting an unknown, yet to be named shore. This song made me cry at 17,, Today,, I must act the strong one. I am forced to watch a precious Daughter, and innocent grandchildren's hearts break.. Today the song will come full circle again,, as we lose a wonderful Son in law, Husband, father. So young,, so needed,, so important, and so loved. But...This theif in the night is coming for us all. So,,Enjoy each day,,cherish minutes as if they were worth Millions,,,, THEY ARE! Peace and prayers to all.
Fantastic song, and memory. Thank you czcams.com/video/MZe_KsRXKBQ/video.htmlsi=G5BmU5Q6675IEnYh Being in my 87th year, a musicina, composer, thanks again. Tony Rodrigues Tampa, Fl.
That was me who commented five years ago. Nothing has changed, still love the music and the man who made the song come alive. Turned 73 last Nov. Say a prayer i answer this same text five years from now! God Bless us all!
just the summary of my life, the sunsetting fast, looking back, thinking of choices made, mistakes that could never be undone, But it was a hell of a ride, and it was my ride, i owned it.
So many of us lived are lives in this song . Some of the talented stars sing this , but none sing it like Roy Clark . If you are lucky enough to seek out a better way when you come to realize this you will know and be forgiven and you also must forgive . Give as much of your time knowing your saviour . U Tube has a great teacher in Arnold Murray and you will be thankful and blessed in knowing the King of Kings and Lord of Lords . Good Luck to you .
So this was one of my grandfather’s favorite songs, and he used to play it on CZcams for me, and make me listen to the words which he told me would become more and more understandable as the years of my life went by and aged, and boy as usual, he was right! This man was always trying to teach me valuable life lessons, and then still trying to teach me even when I wasn’t realizing he was, and now, every time I hear this besides crying tears from missing him, I reflect on his wisdom and the wisdom of Roy Clark’s beautiful masterpiece!!! My two favorite lines in the song are “I used my magic age as if it were a wand & never saw the waste and emptiness beyond” and “The friends I made all seemed some how to drift away, and only I am left on stage to end the play,” like wow, so incredibly true, because when we were young we think we’re invincible, and we can do anything, and so many “friends“ never stick around they leave so easily, and forget you and your left wondering what the hell…….. My grandfather passed away in 2020 of cancer that he beat and fought for over 17 years and I love and miss that man more than life itself! R.I.P. Grandpa 😢❤😘
Yesterday when I was young The taste of life was sweet like rain upon my tongue I teased at life as if it were a foolish game The way an evening breeze would tease a candle flame The thousand dreams I dreamed The splendid things I planned I always built to last on weekend shifting sand I lived by night and shunned the naked light of day And only now I see how the years have run away * Yesterday when I was young There were so many songs that waited to be sung So many wild pleasures (that) lay in store for me And so much pain my dazzled eyes refused to see * I ran so fast in time and youth at last ran out I never stopped to think what life was all about And every conversation that I can(now) recall Concerned itself with me and nothing else at all Yesterday the moon was blue And every crazy day brought something new to do And I used my magic age as if it were a wand And never saw the waste and emptiness beyond The game of love I played with arrogance and pride And every flame I lit, so quickly quickly died The friends I made all seem somehow to drift away And only I’m left on stage to end the play (Repeat *) There are so many songs in me that won't be sung Cause I feel the bitter taste of tears upon my tongue And the time has come for me To pay for yesterday when I was young
Look up singer Mary Hopkin song Those were the days (my friend)

Roy Clark is the greatest virtuoso contemporary musician/performer of all time. A master of any instrument he plays!

A famous poet and writer once said "it's a shame youth is wasted on the young."
That quote came from George Bernard Shaw--poet and playwright.
53 and working on that😢❤
