Back in 1998 I used to do something similar with only my Roland xp60. Record loops make then a pattern then output via click out to drummer so he can stay on tempo and the loops and me going live via regular outputs. Was fun. Back then this technique was known as "playing with sequence" instead of whats known today as Tracks. Then pl stared doing the same with portastudios like tascam..roland vs1880 with full tracks..basically the same thing is done today with Ableton but instead a computer it was a portastudio with all the tracks divided by channel ready to mix .

Using a metronome is a standard tool when doing music lessons, when learning time signatures etc. Playing together people need to have the same knowledge, if they learn differently ( like self taught) people. It does bring players together as a team.

I had a guy say that this was a crutch for the poorer musicians and that it doesn't make their music better unless they get better. Look... do you bowl or golf? Did you start off as a pro bowler or golfer? No? Then I bet you took advantage of certain tools in the game called handicaps that leveled the playing field and made it enjoyable for you, a sub-par bowler, to partake of the game and find joy in it. Eventually, you got better and the handicap was needed less and less till you hit your scoring cap. The same is happening here. This is a tool. It allows musicians with a poorer timing ability to sync up and play better. There is also the ability to repeat the chorus ON THE FLY. So all the folks who desire to follow the leading of the Spirit don't have to worry about the click track stopping. There are so many variables to this tool now. Dive into it and learn how to use it.

there's no place for performance in a worship meeting or entertainment great musicianship yes shoot the drummer a click track is an absolute joke ever see Jazz musicians use a click track lol spontaneous worship is not a jam session the greatest songs come that way see Bethel Church count the song in your drummer is a metronome check out Don Potter Leonard Jones never use a metronome live it's for Studios pal besides that the music Needtobreathe you probably don't understand that concept there's always going to be a push pull in live music I've been playing drums 50 years so what
