    This Rockets situation reminds me of the Pacers situation and the current Kings situation. Sabonis/Sengun are both great offensively from 10ft in, the problem is they don't have enough versatileity in their game both offensively and defensively. They can't stretch the floor, and they can't rim protect... They are locked in at the 5: position, when their size should have them playing the 4 but they aren't quick enough to play the 4. It's harder to find a player type to play the 4 alongside ALP and a Sabonis cause that player would have to protect the paint/ stretch the floor/ and be able to switch. Clingan can become a Sengun, Sengun can never become a Clingan

Bari can play with ANY Center, Sengun CANT play with ANY 4/5.... and that's Facts

Someone you can throw in to guard wemby, Jokic, Davis, sabonis, zubac, porzingis, embiid, Gianni’s,adebayo. Just look at nba finals, kyrie with all his ball handling and shooting abilities can’t even shoot. Bcos Boston is putting big body on him, will Sheppard be better than kyrie. My Blazers trade idea would be #3/Dillon Brooks for Robert Williams/Thybulle/#7. Those 2 guys are analytically defensive demons and the Rockets could just take the BPA at #7 (Reed, Dillingham, Castle, or Topic) could drop. The ONLY Nets deal I’d do for Mikal that makes sense for the Rockets is Dillon/#3 for Mikal. Any other assets attached is just too much imo. Especially since you’re only getting him as a 2 year rental. Those future draft picks and flexibility are just too valuable. Grizz trade idea would be #3/Dillon(assuming they’d want him back) for M.Smart/#9/Future 1st. Smart is 2 years older but is just a better overall defender (DPOY) and knows Ime’s schemes. The idea is the Rockets net a better defender in short term and another draft asset in future. Grizz get a guy familiar with the team in Dillon that’ll start and Clingan. Bulls have nothing I want in return that would be worth moving from #3 to #11. A 1 year rental of Caruso isn’t worth it imo. I’d rather just take Reed who’s a better shooter, younger, and we’d have contract control for 4 years.

    • @NOJSIP
      @NOJSIP Před 9 dny

      @@RobertLandHoustonSportsTalk For Real? Here are some stats that you can't not ignore and neither will Stone and Udoka: The follow list are Steals + Blocks = per game. The first # is in college, then in the NBA are for some of the great defensive guards to see how Reed Sheppard stacks up. I also include Olajuwon (#1 all time NBA), Jordan (#2 all time NBA) to give you a reference to the best in NBA history and then I included Bridges to show you how low he compares on this list. Don't get me wrong Bridges is good, but not as good as you think (FVV beats him out in the NBA...even with NO wingspan). Most will say Payton is the benchmark for all Defensive guards ever in the NBA, but Paul and Stockton out preformed him in NBA career D numbers. 6.8100 - Hakeem Olajuwon 6' 10" 255lbs with a 7' 2” wingspan and a 36?" vertical NBA# - 4.8400 <--BTW, no one close to this #. 3.2000 - Gary Payton 6' 4" 180lbs with a 6' 6” wingspan and a 39" vertical NBA# - 2.0449 3.1818 - Reed Sheppard 6' 3" 187lbs with a 6' 3 1/4” wingspan and a 42" vertical NBA# - ?.????? 2.7460 - Chris Paul 6' 0" 175lbs with a 6' 4” wingspan and a 38" vertical NBA# - 2.2122 2.5794 - John Stockton 6' 1" 170lbs with a 6' 1” wingspan and a ??" vertical NBA# - 2.3803 2.3942 - Steph Curry 6' 3" 185lbs with a 6' 4” wingspan and a 35.5" vertical NBA# - 1.7866 2.3762 - Michael Jordan 6' 6" 198lbs with a 6' 11” wingspan and a 46-48" vertical NBA# - 3.1781 2.2758 - Mikal Bridges 6' 6" 209lbs with a 7' 0” wingspan and a 40+" vertical NBA# - 1.7911 1.6879 - Fred VanVleet 6' 0" 195lbs with a 6' 2” wingspan and a ??" vertical NBA# - 1.8183 Why is it, one might ask that Hakeem is so far ahead of everyone else? I watched his whole career and I can tell you that he chased down players in transition, played passing lanes, contested the outside shooters and weakside in the paint. This is all commitment, desire and knowing the game and you can see that in Reed's game and it will be refined for the NBA. If he is on a great defensive team he will be even better. When you consider Reed's D abilities along with his Shooting numbers and add in desire, commitment and BB IQ then you can see that Reed's upside is tremendous... I highly doubt Stone will pass on Reed when FVV's max is coming off the books soon.

    • @RobertLandHoustonSportsTalk
      @RobertLandHoustonSportsTalk Před 8 dny

      I'm very aware of the steals/blocks. That's been discussed on a couple of our 3 draft expert shows. Size & length still matters most for defensive switchability & high end potential. Watch the playoffs & you'll see. Reed could turn into a high end PG w/ shooting & passing to overcome his size issues but nobody is drafting Reed based on his steals/blocks at that size

    • @NOJSIP
      @NOJSIP Před 8 dny

      @@RobertLandHoustonSportsTalk I respect your take and enjoy your show, but I don't think the Rockets are going to make a major trade for another vet. The wanted to point out that Reed's D most likely will not be a liability because of his size. His Shooting is already elite. This among other reasons is why I think they will pick him at #3. As far as Bridges, He is over rated by many fans and media. He is a good defender, but his numbers show that he is not a great defender and his 3-point shooting is at 37% (just barely above league average). These rumors regarding Bridges and the Rockets started last trade deadline as Green + a filler + all the Nets' picks and swaps back to the Nets. It was laughable...If the Rockets offered that, then the Net would have taken it in a NY minute. It sounded like wishful thinking on Nets fans, because they finally figured out that trading for Harden was a huge mistake and they wanted their picks back...at the time of the Harden trade the fans and all the media were saying how great this trade was for the Nets and that Stone was an bad GM...Stone just smiled and said it will take time (up to 10-years) before you can grade this trade. The rumors still persist, but the asking price has dropped a lot. BTW, These fans and media that buy into the Rockets wanting Bridges (or even another player) do not listen to Stone when he has said several times that WE (meaning him, owner and coach) really love our players (roster), but I (he) will listen to all trade ideas from other teams. He has also talked about the importance of managing the cap space and he has worked hard to get the Rockets into one of the best cap situation in the NBA. FVV's max can come off the books after this season, when Sengun and Green need to be resigned. Also, Landale is now on 3 team option years. That only leaves Brooks' $20M (shrinking) contract on the books for 3 more years. Now trading Brooks for Bridges + the Nets' 2026 pick & 2027 swap makes sense for the Rockets on future cap space, those picks are less likely to be lottery picks and as a player upgrade, but the Nets won't do that trade...I would...only because I am a Rockets fan. Fans and media don't seem to understand that the Rockets are in the driver's seat, because of their young core, draft assets and managed cap space. This makes it easy to see that they will only do a trade that doesn't disrupt the path that Stone has worked hard to build. The Rockets are going to be a long time contender if not a dynasty with this Owner, GM, Coach, core young players, managed cap and 1st round draft assets intact. They will protect this great position by rotating talented player from within before taking on another vet with a max. MOF, by picking Reed and moving Cam fulltime to SG, I see them in a position to trade JG for future draft assets and a servable backup big man. Thus, only resigning Sengun next year and protecting their cap space for another year along with extending their future draft assets.

      I suspect Bridges is a far better player than the Rockets would get at 3 this yr. The Nets could be the 2nd worst team in the NBA next yr & that pick is most likely to get the 6th pick. We've seen Detroit be the worst & only get the 5th pick for 2 straight yrs. Finding a Top 40 player like Bridges is pretty hard even at 4, 5, 6 or 7

      @@RobertLandHoustonSportsTalk no doubt in my mind Bridges is better than #3 this year, however we have 4 years of control over them. Bridges ain't worth that. even if the picks land out of the top 4 in a much more talent filled draft we will still come away with high end talent ( especially next year ). we don't have to get the top 4 every pick for us to reap the benifit. right now we can continue to try to make the playoffs while at the same time land in the draft lottery until Brooklyn figures out to quit stumbling over their own feet

    I give you that Bridges is an upgrade over Dillon. Not a bad trade for the number 3, Dillon, and waive next year's swap. The Caruso trade is a waste. Where does he get minutes? I would rather have Cam getting those minutes. Blazers trading Simmons is not happening. Personally, I would trade #3 & #44 to Blazers for their #7 and #4, then draft two backups Carter and Edey. Then the Rockets are set - FVV, Carter, Amen, Green, Cam, Dillon, Eason, Smith, Sengun, Edey. There is a solid ten man rotation with FVV and Dillon moving on down the road or signing for less as backups. At this point, the Rockets are in a great position with their future picks and may get lucky with the Nets picks and land in the top three again. But something to think about. If this draft is weak, then you are drafting backups. But there is gold in them there hills. Mark my words - Topic is a gem. Rockets should use the 3rd pick to keep him from going to the Spurs.

      I love it when fans say there's no room in the rotation. There are injuries all the time. Last yr Sengun missed 20 gms, Amen missed about the same, Tari missed 3/4ths of the season, FVV missed 10, Dylan missed about 10, Cam missed some. In the modern NBA, being 11 deep is mandatory. Caruso also has the versatility & ballhandling to play PG when FVV is on the bench or out. If Caruso is somehow not needed at the trade deadline, he can get you a 1st rd pick back. One of the most well-respected role players in the league. Don't sleep on him

    I disagree with the Nets trade .....Rockets don't owe the nets any mercy by given some of their picks back. Rockets just need to draft a center and put him in the Gleague

      Bridges is a top 50 player in the NBA. Believe it or not, it's not easy to find those - even w/ 2 lottery picks. Odds are esp bad w/ this 3 pick in a draft where I've experts insist there's no likely all-stars. There's a reason why they want out on this yr's pick

    • @djmill8000
      @djmill8000 Před 8 dny

      So what if he is a top 50 player, is he a top 5/10 at his role? What is his role? Are we getting phoenix Bridges, or, are we getting Nets Bridges ??? Two different roles. We dont have enough sample size to define what bridges role is, so I don't think gambling on fit with bridges is a good idea, when we have the opportunity to draft what we need not gamble on a maybe upgrade over Brooks, we know what Brooks brings at his role on the team... Go get a Big Clingan, or trade ALP to the hawks for the number 1 pick and draft Sarr and draft shepherd at 3

    • @RobertLandHoustonSportsTalk
      @RobertLandHoustonSportsTalk Před 8 dny

      @@djmill8000 You're trading for Bridges to be a high end role player not to be the star he was forced to be with the Nets. Hard to judge guys in losing situations. See PJ Washington

    • @djmill8000
      @djmill8000 Před 8 dny

      @@RobertLandHoustonSportsTalk that's the idea, high end role player, but how much of high we are talking about and is the cost justifiable over what Brooks already bring in his current role plus we still haven't seen Tari. You talking about trading Dillon Brooks and the third pick to get maybe 10 percent better at that position? Not worth it, I honestly feel like we can do much better. I laid out the trade we need to make, ALP to the Hawks for the number one pick, so we can draft Sarr and still take Shepherd or whoever with the third pick. Therefore we address size and shooting at the same time.... What you think? We don't need a high end role player at the 3 position because we have Dillon Brooks who is good at his role, we don't need a superstar at the center position who does a lot of things good when we can get a high end role player at the Center position for cheap and longer. I like the lineup and versatileity with Vanfleet, Green, Brooks, Bari and Sarr over Vanfleet, green bridges, Bari,Sengun, because you still have to address the elephant in the room with rim protection and switching in the playoffs

    Sengun is NOT the best player on the team. In my opinion the BEST PLAYER on any team should be one that is not limited to any scheme, that has versatility in his game, and one that i do not have to look in the draft nor free agency to come behind and do what another player cant do. We dont question if philly needs a rim protector to play behind Embiid, we dont question if philly should bring in a stretch big to play behind Embiid. We have a team full of young athletic guards and wings, why are we trying to fit the mold of a Sengun type offense? We are watching and asking ourselves in real time watching these playoffs, Why is Gobert in the game taking up driving Space? Why Naz Reid is not in the game this way Ant Man can have SPACE to use his speed and quickness? But we dont ask those questions when it comes to Sengun. We dont ask these questions of how Sengun would fair in the playoffs guarding Luka/Kyrie/SGA, and other elite playmakers at the top of the key in isolation. OKC excels not because SGA is Special, he is special but because CHET HOLMGREN give him the SPACE to operate.

    Dude this love for Sengun is getting out of control. It's a reason why Sacredness didn't make the playoffs, it will be the same reason why the rockets lacks if they go down the Sacramento path. Sabonis like Sengun can't protect the rim, nor switch on defense, they both are dominant at getting downhill and passing on offense, but if you already have a Fox that can do the same thing plus GENERATE his own three then what is the point of having redundant skill-set. It's a reason why the Pacers chose Turner over Sabonis, what they needed Sabonis to do he couldn't do, what Sabonis does they can already get in a guard who once again can GENERATE his own three
