It's a category 1 tractor. This refers to the size of pins on the implements you can attach to the 3-pt on your tractor. Zero is the smallest and 3 are the biggest. Most small tractors are set up as Category 1 tractors and most implements have Cat 1 pin. You can also change them to match.

We are in Southeast Arizona, elevation just below 4000 ft, our highs have been 104 on average and lows in the low 60s just recently pulled out of the 50s. We had a 50 degree swing about a week ago or so, lots of extreme swings here in spring and fall. We use 50% shade over our high tunnels with the altitude and heat factor and so far tomatoes are growing great and producing well. First time trying to grow lettuce and spinach all summer, in a tunnel, under shade, so far so good no bitter or bolting yet and we have taken two cuttings from the spinach so far, harvesting only outer leaves from lettuce instead of cutting as we have limited tunnels space and want to see how much we can get out of this crop. We shall see how it goes, growing two different varieties of spinach to see how they do, so far so good on both. Thanks for the videos 👍🏼 always great info

Good stuff Farmer Keith. Back yard gardener here in Iowa Zone 5a, but the process is the same: know your market. The wife (my market) finally convinced me we don't need so many tomatoes and greens because our freezers are full. So this year, just a few plants, easier to manage, & room for more stuff if we want it. Eggplant, for example. Any suggestions on keeping the flea beetles in check? I notice that you use plastic fabric. I mulch everything with shredded leaves to retain moisture and feed the soil. Maybe beetles hide in the mulch? I don't know. This year I'm not playing around. I'm dusting the eggplant leaves with Sevin. Not organic, I know, but whatever works...

Thanks for confirming I'm already doing the right thing in this upper 90s heatwave we're having in early June. I'm only growing tomatoes this year but not using shade cloth and my plants are all in 5 gallon buckets because I'm 72 and can't get low to the ground anylonger. I have tall trees on the West side of my property and shade occurs by 2pm were my buckets are located. The plants get exactly six hours full Sun. They avoid that blistering relentless Sun of middle afternoon. I water deep hour before daylight. Unfortunately night temperatures aren't below 70 degrees so I'll have to see how successful my plan is. I may have all the blooms I'm going to get this year already and I'll top the indeterminate plants to focus instead on developing fruits already present. I'll replant middle August for Fall Tomatoes. Last year my Fall Tomato production was far superior to my Spring attempt. I still had Tomatoes at Thanksgiving. I enjoyed your video. Good luck with your crops in this punishing heat. Stay hydrated yourself out there!

How do you get on with leaf burn watering in the sun? What are your thoughts on lowering humidity but maintain heat in a greenhouse? We are around 80% RH unless it's raining, cloud cover and temp I often find to be an issue. On the colder days the warmer crops like chili and, toms and cucumbers suffer if I open it up. I water first thing, vent when temp allows at least for a bit midday, small solar fans are extracting most of the day. Any ideas would be mint. Bottom of NZ 46 deg south

    • @farmerkeith

I never can really sell very many tomatoes at my market either. We get a lot of seasonal gardeners who grow nothing but tomatoes so it floods the market. I'm debating starting to grow them in a greenhouse using grow slabs in the winter here. I may give it a go this year. Unfortunately, lettuce does not grow here past May as it is too humid and the insect pressure is insane. I think the only solution would be a temperature regulated NFT system, and that's quite expensive. I'm taking this summer off there is so much saturation at the market I am at on account of the spring gardeners. They have tables full of beans, squash, cucumbers, corn, etc. and they all sell way cheaper than they should because they do not do it for a living. I'm doing research and trying to decide where my niche can be in the summer markets. Keith is correct about knowing your market. I crush it in fall and spring though! Nobody is buying Kale at my market anymore either. The in product is now Bok Choy. I grew Asian Delight this year and people could not get enough. I sold about $800 dollars worth of Bok Choy alone this spring.

Coolbot has the same feature and I copied it when I made my close. I got a video on my page of my setup but use a JCI freeze sensor, but either works as long as you can sense the coil freezing. If not it will over work and trip the breaker. Doing the second sensor will avoid the temperature step cooling you are doing now.

I had that happen last year, on the way home I remembered I had forgot to open the greenhouse before the market. I lost hundreds of lbs of tomatoes. Didn't kill the plants but boiled the tomatoes. Felt sick to my stomach on the way home thinking how bad it was going to be.

I've cooked my propagation house before. It's not fun. Keep Farming!

If you organically grow will that hurt the soil microbiology??

It will. But I will boost in with AgriGro Ultra and compost tea before I replant. In order to get rid of the bad stuff, some of the good stuff will die.
