Philippe Sarde - Helle (1972)
zhlédnutí 21KPřed 5 lety
One of the most beautiful and inspired scores of the great French composer Philippe Sarde was composed for Roger Vadim's 1972 story of a mute girl who discovers love, surrounded by people who themselves are fighting their own demons. Sarde's score reflects Helle's innocence and beauty clearly inspired by leading actress' Gwen Welles stunning looks and performance as the vulnerable title character.
Yasushi Akutagawa - The Village of the Eight Gravestones (1977) Suite
zhlédnutí 2,8KPřed 6 lety
One of the most beautiful and accomplished film music works of all time for this Japanese obscure horror adventure directed by Yoshitaro Nomura. It is comprised by five cues from the original soundtrack. Akutagawa had a very distinctive symphonic approach on his film works that reflected his enormous talent in creating excellent and solid themes even for the most difficult movies such as the on...
Michael Small - Marathon Man (1976) - Diamond market score montage.
zhlédnutí 4KPřed 6 lety
This is a montage i prepared that focuses on the music Michael Small composed for the sequence where Szell wreaks havoc in the Jewish diamond market in John Schlesinger's superb MARATHON MAN. I retained the sound and dialogue parts and removed the sounds during the moments of Michael Small's score. A jaw-dropping musical approach by the underrated composer, who uses the theme he composed for th...
Patrick Williams - Cuba (1979) suite

So beautiful and distinctive score for this Richard Lester exotic adventure/romance. Patrick Williams' finest moment in my own agenda. Enjoy a suite created from some of the best cues the late composer composed.

A presentation of the opening sequence from Philip D'Antoni's THE SEVEN-UPS, with Don Ellis' original music in comparison to Johnny Mandel's unused opening music. Two different approaches from two great American musicians.
Akira Ifukube - The Little Prince and the 8 Headed Dragon 1963
zhlédnutí 10KPřed 6 lety
Magnificent score by the greatest Japanese film composer for the 1963 Japanese wonderful animantion. Ifukube composes in his usual ostinato rhythm and utilizes many traditional Japanese instruments and orchestration elements. The score was released by Futureland Toshiba in the 90s in an ultra rare edition and is now released again in 2018 by Cinema-Kan.
John Addison - Strange Invaders OST 1983

One of the lesser known gems of film music, John Addison's score for this 1983 sci-fi movie. Beautiful finale and end credits music reveals multi layered intense symphonic score in its seven minute duration. Enjoy!
Riz Ortolani - La Primavera Di Michelangelo 1991

Magnificent symphonic and choral score by the great Italian composer Riz Ortolani for the 1991 Italian tv series.
A new composer to me, very enjoyable work. I see he has some concert work on Spotify, I'll investigate further. Thanks for sharing. Shame to see he passed away in his early 60's!
One of my All time fav!
Amazing comparison. This should be screened in every film scoring class for media music students. I had the opportunity to see and hear Don Ellis and his big on a Monday night at tiny club in LA called Bonesville in a he late 60s. The man was as a true genius who died too young.
Makes you question your existence, and if I didn't know better, GOD'S
Amazing sound... This is such a gritty movie. The acting is excellent. Car chase... Off the chart! But the soundtrack is amazing.
Nobody at the time-IMHO-was better able to embody and create tension than Don Ellis. One should remember that he did receive a Grammy for :"French Connection". His music came from many diverse sources including Greece, Bulgaria, and India. RIP.
I was enthralled by Don Ellis' opening music while watching the film on YT for the 1st time just recently... hearing it again and then comparing it to that of Johnny Mandel helps me appreciate why the Ellis take-no-prisoners approach better suited THE SEVEN-UPS that Mandel's far-too-sonorous score
Beautiful 😃.
#1 Don Ellis..
Ellis all the way!
" Principe Suzano Lindo Desenho Japonês de si Ver Vale pena Assistir "
Ellis's music clearly better for this purpose. More of an edge and is definitely menacing. Reminds me of French Connection.

This is the compressed suite from the original soundtrack you can find also on YT. This kind of music from the other side of our well-known and beloved Akutagawa cant be denied; he wrote over 100 film compositions.
Une merveille...
Many thanks for this, I have heard that Mandel did a score for this film but never knew what it sounded like, now I know. Ellis score fits the film perfectly whereas Mandel score would fit a seafaring story better. Again thanks for this.
And you to you know what Is the eight headed dragon

懐かしいですね。 50年近く前、古事記や日本書記の素戔嗚尊をスポットをあて題材にした映画でしたね。
Güzelmiş
the thing that gets you about this movie is that you know someone went through all this: the fear, the anxiety, and the death
This is now on my playlist for moody and exciting background music. Fits the mood of all scenes beautifully and so haunting on its own to listen to. Thanks again for providing this great music set.
in music composition for mass audience one is told that many times less is more....but in this case the cartoon director definitely had another vision
Ash vs commander ruckus theme Pokémon movie 21
Saw it in Chicago the opening day - I've always been fascinated by movies that were shot in Cuba around this time like "Affair in Havana", "Yo No Creo en los Hombres", "La vuelta a Cuba en 80 minutos", "Our Man in Havana", and the first two El Santo films. "Cuba" nailed the atmosphere almost as well as the later "Havana", although it was a difficult production at times per Richard Lester's biography - Diana Ross turned down the lead that went to Brooke Adams, and the production crew had a lot of trouble finding vintage American cars for the filming (they came up with only about a dozen). Thanks for posting this excellent, haunting score!
It was shot in Spain.
@@rickster100100 Yes, mostly around Sevilla, Cadiz and Jerez de la Frontera.

Great score! I just bought it on CD, it took me ages to find.
花恋人のテーマ。切なく哀しい。
Note the opening credit sequence. It was over quicker than you could read the name. "Produced and Directed by" -- the great Philip D'Antoni. One person, in other words. These days, with the myriad of producer,. co-producers. associate producers, affiliate producers, and particularly executive producers -- you would have like 25-30 names just for the so-called producers.
Right you are. I know everyone deserves their credit, but all of those modern lengthy credit sequences (beginning and end) junk up the movie and make it a turn-off.
Marvelous ..... a true treasure 💖
I was surprised Billy Friedkin didn't use Don Ellis on The Exorcist. Friedkin claimed he wanted the score to feel like ice on the back of the viewers neck. That would have been right in Ellis' wheelhouse.
Mandel's version makes it seem like a Western......Ellis' version really heightens the suspense, you do not realize the good guys are not the bad guys....thanks for showing this....
Magnificent music
Ellis all but makes this film and the French Connection for me.
Philip Sarde, notable en su capacidad armónica de generar con música, sentimientos humanos, actitudes, miradas, secretos y pasiones guardadas.
Does anyone know where we can get a copy of the Don Ellis OST for The Seven Ups?
Mandel was brilliant, but he had that TV feel. Ellis was more appropriate for this one.
Like a Columbo episode.
Mandel's music sounds like it could be from an episode of Columbo or Murder She Wrote. Ellis crushed it.
You are right - the Don Eliis version is completely masterful even though its a rehash of The French Connection
Don Ellis is genius--- Mandel music is trite and weak compared to the powerful Ellis version.
Love love love this haunting score especially the love themes. I never forget it.
The Mandel composition was just plain bad. That is probably why it was not used. Not sure why d"Antoni even hired him instead of going with Don Ellis. Mr. Ellis left us way too soon.
Ein sehr guter Vergleich - sehr gut gemacht, sehr interessant, vielen Dank!
What fun! It’s not the Don Ellis Orchestra sound I know and love well, but the edginess is correct. Mandel is gorgeous as always but his piece really wants a Western setting.
