A tribute to my friend Dominique Montaggioni that helped me on getting more speed from my gear with 40 knots of wind. Dominique trained 1 hour during the morning, so he was already at full speed when we started training on the afternoon, This allowed me to test new solutions to improve my speed on Gruissan specific conditions. After having mechanical issues on the qualification, I had to start from the end of the grid on race 1. I was able to recover until 3rd place, finishing onli 0,1 sec behind 2nd place! I gained 3 secs on the last lap :)

I got my best start of Defi 2023. I used the Starboard ISonic 107 NP EVO 13 6.6 Chopper fin 37. I finished in 320th place on this race. I was 382th on the overall after the 4 races, 163th on the 40-59y category and 206th on the fin class.

Corrida altamente disputada entre os 3 primeiros da classe ZT, contando com 2 Formulas Renault (muito mais rápidos) no meio de nós, para criar mais emoções! Cortei a parte em que entrou o Safety Car. Acabei em 2º lugar, mas depois houve uma penalização de 45segundos para os 5 ou 6 pilotos que iam à frente, por terem ultrapassado pilotos lentos na saída do safety car....eu fui um deles!

Sim....aquilo é uma mistura entre a mareta offshore e água mexida pela passagem de centenas de windsurfers....o efeito é o de parecer que a água está em banho maria....e cheia de pequenas bolhas de ar, que tiram sustentação ao fin. Por isso, quem andar nos primeiros lugares pode ir de prancha e fin mais pequenos do que aqueles que andam atrás dos 200 ou 300 primeiros. Estes (como no meu caso) devemos andar com prancha e fin ligeiramente maiores do que num dia equivalente sem regatas e sem 1500 meninos na água....
Hi Rui, I have two questions. One, your front hand looks to be very much to the front of the boom, is that because of trying to go upwind or being overpowered? Two, there are a lot of small horizontal wrinkles just behind the pocket of the sail; any idea why? Is this a downhaul issue or is the sail simply cut like that? Beautiful footage nonetheless :)
Hi Fons! Front hand positioning is due to 2 things - being slightly overpowered (looking for a safer position than looking for pure speed) and it was the 1st run of the day - I was still feeling unbalanced with the trim of the board and sail (later I was feeling confidence to put the hand a little backwards). About the horizontal wrinkles - they are normal on modern cambered race sails with a large luff pocket. They have a huge tension on the sail (inside the luff pocket) and low tension on the luff pocket (that works partially independent of the sail). In the old cambered race sails the downhaul tension was applied to the luff pocket and that was not good (the luff pocket was very stretched and the sail inside the luff pocket was loose).... Thanks for your words on the footage - I was using a 5.3K definition to get a high video quality 😀 See you!

@@nerohammer because it's the Gopro application that diggests all the info and then comes with the result. The speeds are in line with my gps. Only those first seconds don't make any sense....
Mine hero 9 start from 0 up to 50kmh.....don't frerze first 3 seconds...it seems some problem trough video save function.....your end speed is real...

Cá vai a explicação - seja em treino ou nas regatas chegamos a fazer mais de 100km num dia, em condições extremas. Os antebraços são dos músculos mais críticos a fazer windsurf com vento forte....por isso usamos retrancas finas (slim) para permitir menos esforço dos antebraços. Ao usarmos luvas, estamos a aumentar indiretamente o diâmetro da retranca, quando o que pretendemos é o contrário. Por isso nenhum PRO usa luvas....Abraço e obrigado!

Thanks for uploading, and for keeping the original sound ! It must be exhausting to sail so long without interruption. And it shows the level is quite high, on the first leg you seem to be going really fast but in fact you had a slight speed deficit compared to other competitors
I try to go at 90% of my maximum effort, to guarantee that I'm able to finish the race. About the speed, the good thing is that there were 300 guys (at least) faster than me, but then I was faster than the other 1000 guys behind 😅

how heavy is the steering on carts like these?
It's not a power steering wheel and, since it has a small diameter, you need to have strong forearms to do a full race at max speed. The advantage is that as soon you start understeering or oversteering, you feel it immediately. Cheers
