    • @IntlWingfoil

      There are many factors to consider. The riders weight / skill level / salt water or fresh water / board size / foil size. Companies recommend general wind ranges for certain size wings. 4.5M is usually 4-5 Beaufort though again this is a generalization.

    Hey but they but the board you were lifting with one hand had a carbon mast, the other one had aluminum way way heavier. Also something to consider is that with a sinker board if the wind drops or dies and you are far out it will be very very difficult to come back.

    • @IntlWingfoil
      @IntlWingfoil Před 5 dny

      Great eye Alessandro! You are right one had Aluminum and another Carbon Mast though for the sake of the example between beginner equipment and a more advanced intermediate set up the weight difference and potential performance is significant which is the main point to get across. There are pros and cons to all set ups and as an informed rider it is important to know what they are and make an educated decision based on that. What volume board are you currently riding yourself and are you thinking to go bigger, stay the same or smaller? Regards Alessandro-

    I think not attaching the board leach is a BAD idea... if you let go the board the foil will either get damaged on the shore or worse..injure someone playing on the shore. Moreover you will find yourself floating without a board and no chance to try again to get back out. If there is current you will get dragged and your wing will also get damaged in the impact zone. Solution: have a telephone cord leach which will extend and prevent the board to spring back in your face. Have fun everyone and keep everyone safe.

If I am starting with Wingfoil and I want to buy only one Setup, is it Possible to use the Wingfoilboard for SUP Foiling on a Lake? Or should I buy a Downwindboard and Use it if I have enough Wind with the Wing? Greets

    • @charlesosterlund7303
      @charlesosterlund7303 Před 15 dny

      Hello, Charles here with IWO team. The first note is that when you try to have one equipment that serves multiple purposes you will sacrifice something somewhere along the line. There are "SUP Foil" boards that could work as well "downwind SUP foil boards" that can work though two different SUP experiences... Depending if you are actively supping you might want a downwind sup board and if you are using for relaxing close paddles a board more similar to SUP. It is hard to give a definite answer because its various cases and don't have all the details though with this information you should be able to make a more informed and personalized decision.

      @@charlesosterlund7303 thanks for the fast answer. Yeah in the long run I will definitely buy more than one Board. And especially one for downwind. But at first I have to start with one and I mainly want to get into Winging. But to have more time to practice pumping I have to go to the Lake next to me where the Wind conditions aren't very good. That means, that generally it works with normal Wingfoilboard without the Wing for practice but it is suboptimal and more difficult?

    • @charlesosterlund7303
      @charlesosterlund7303 Před 2 měsíci

      It is a great point and to elaborate a bit further... Basically if/when you fly a wing you have most likely noticed if your "front hand" is shorter than your "back hand" the wing does not generate the same power as if your front hand is longer or more extended than your back hand. So the reason why your hands or arms (depending what word you want to use) have different flexion while pumping and/or riding to optimize the position of the wing to capture as much wind as possible while riding/pumping.

    Surface area is in cm squared, not cubed. Projected area would actually be more correct, relating to lift, but those numbers are pretty close and I'm not sure which one the manufacturers are providing. Aspect ratio and thickness are two of the other important design elements when comparing foils.

    Hi, great video! I'd like some help if possible regarding the gear selection. Im 75kg with some experience on kiteboarding, and Im thinking on a 5.0m wing, 110L board and my real doubt is about the front wing size. In my classes ive been using a 1850 front and still havent been able to foil for long, but for the gear Im buying I think it might be smarter to go with a 1500 so it can last longer. Do you think the 1850 is "easy to outgrow", so to speak? If I get the 1500, will I make the learning process a lot harder? Thanks!

    • @IntlWingfoil
      @IntlWingfoil Před 2 měsíci

      Hello there and thanks for the information. One part of the information that is good to know is your general riding conditions. What is the wind like on an average day and water conditions as this affects a good amount? 110L Board + 5M Wing an either an 1850 or a 1500 sounds "normal" though the other information helps put it all together. If you are riding primarily lighter conditions you will benefit from having either a larger wing or larger front foil. If you are riding average wind conditions lets say 15~ knots than your 1500 should work down the line though it will take you some time to get comfortable riding it (could be in 1 day and/or various days). Position of the foil also will affect the lift you receive from your foil. To far forward and/or to far forward might make things harder.

    • @matota85
      @matota85 Před 2 měsíci

      @@IntlWingfoil Thanks for the response! Where I ride we have mostly 10-18 knots with some days of stronger wind. Im inclined over the 1500 front wing mainly because I want something that will last and that I wont need to change a few weeks after I started foiling. But if this means having "hard times" when wind is in the 10-13 knot range (which happens quite often) Im not so sure. Do you think that the 1850 might be a little big once you start to get some riding experience or it should feel similar to the 1500?

    • @IntlWingfoil
      @IntlWingfoil Před 2 měsíci

      @@matota85 glad we can be a source of help. Do you have the option to rent where you are at or other riders? Most likely with a few sessions under your belt on the 1800 you can cut down to the 1500. Another option is going on 1500 though having a 6m... I totally understand your logic and where you are coming from though either way you go about it - it will work out. If you the chance to get wingfoiling frequently you will progress faster as well then just someone who can ride 1 a month. This is another factor. Sorry I cannot just give you a flat out "THIS IS THE ANSWER" as the reality is there are various variables and factors. You could do the 1500 though also it could be a struggle (not sure your level of athleticism) if you are able to work the wing and board then you could make it happen in lighter conditions though 10-13 even with 1850 might be tricky and having a larger wing could help.... It is hard to have a 1 size fits all solution-

  • @dazcar54
    @dazcar54 Před 2 měsíci

    A few good tips there thanks. If you do another one on this topic you need to cover trickier environments. Where I foil it’s quite rocky in places and depending on the the tide there can be a gully you can suddenly drop into and if that coincides with a wave it can get nasty quickly. Also I wouldn’t just let my board float in on its own when there’s a rocky bottom waiting to eat my beautiful foil.

    • @IntlWingfoil
      @IntlWingfoil Před 2 měsíci

      Yep! You are 100% right that it would be great to cover various different conditions. In winter time here in Cabarete we will have more swell where we can show trickier situations with larger shore breaks both going in and out... Both alone and assisted entry/exit.

  • @luksterp6049
    @luksterp6049 Před 3 měsíci

    hard to say..the easy answer is you leaned too far backwards but also looks like you pointed upwind too early in the pre flight and didn't have enough speed or wind in the sail to counter balance/correct. Maybe a big board like that also requires a more forward stance shifting hips once foil is engaged..🙅‍♀ As an intermediate rider I tend to stay in a slightly downwind pointing position while pumping until the foil is truly flying and then shift the hips forward and point upwind all at the same time.

    • @IntlWingfoil
      @IntlWingfoil Před 2 měsíci

      Aiming downwind to accelerate to get sufficient speed especially in "lighter winds" does help to get on to the foil. There were couple "mistakes" done in the video that you can see which affect the riding. It is important as you know when learning to try and be as aware of possible of what is "best practices" and what practices to "avoid". In the end when you put it all together foiling is quite simple though sometimes it is so simple things are either under or over done!

This is the setup I have in mind: Board 90L, Foil 72-75, Front wing 1850, wing 5.0... Conditions at our spot are deep water and wind 10-20 knots. Thank you in advance

    • @charlesosterlund7303
      @charlesosterlund7303 Před 3 měsíci

      Hey Dan, Charles from the video here. My opinion is going up to a 110L unless you are okay struggling in beginning. The 5.0 will work nicely in that sweet spot of 12-18 knots above might be full power and below underpowered. Foil wise 1700-1900 is a good range with mast 70-75. It is just important when compromising on finding gear that works for both as well to learn with it is really tricky. Ideally you get lessons and work your way down. Most start on 110 up to 130 and sometimes more. The wing is adjusted to the wind of day and rider as well as foil set up. If you enter this with an open mind and are okay with whatever time it takes then give it a shot though just beware it is tricky. A finally time might be aim for stronger wind days so the wing actually helps you get lift and going, if it’s to light and equipment to small you will struggle overall. Make sure wear helmet and impact vest and have fun. Regards Dan, CO
