    The problem with the C70 is lens choices. Being a crop sensor camera, the choices are limited without a speed booster. The new 24-105 2.8 would be amazing with the C400.

    • @DaveBurns88
      @DaveBurns88 Před měsícem

      I agree the lens choice for S35 is basically non-existent. I think now that Canon is letting third parties make RF mount lenses we will see a new 18-35 sigma RF. Canon seemed to try to bridge the gap when it started just giving the RF to EF speed booster away when you buy a C70. That 24-105 is going to be documentary power house once the c400 comes out

    The only thing preventing me from preordering this one is the lack of DGO tech in it. However I’m really positive I’ll end up buying it anyway because it seems the DR difference is close to null and in exchange I get everything that the C70 was lacking that for me was: Full Frame Better AF And the huge unexpected bonus: being able to shoot natively at 12500 ISO. I mean, wow, that in my line of work is huge.

    • @DaveBurns88
      @DaveBurns88 Před měsícem

      I am leaning towards getting one as well. I agree the big selling point here is the triple native ISO. Full frame isn’t a huge thing for me but it welcomed and any upgrade to an autofocus system is great. Thanks for watching!

    I'll probably be selling my C70, the DSMC2 Dragon 6K, and the R5C, and I'm getting the C400 and whatever Canon announces to replace the R5, since I still need a stills/hybrid small and compact mirrorless camera. If something, I would be unsure about replacing my C70 with the C400 😬

      It is def something I have to think about. I know we have plenty of work to justify it but does the camera answer enough of my issues with the c70. Thanks for watching! I appreciate your feedback!

      RF mount is a lot more adaptable. My thoughts as others have said, too late to the party.

    • @DaveBurns88
      @DaveBurns88 Před 2 měsíci

      Yea, I think it depends on how boxy you want to go. The c200 was pretty boxy in my opinion. It didn’t have the same build out ability that the Komodo and the Pyxis has now. The C70 is great and until I started to pair it with shoulder rigs and easy rigs is when I really felt that pain point. If most of my work was tripod or even handheld I probably wouldn’t consider upgrading, especially looking at the cost of the c400. I appreciate the input! Thanks!

    The R3 has a beautiful standard image so much so I rarely shoot in raw. Will the C400 have an even nicer standard 4K image than the R3?

    • @DaveBurns88
      @DaveBurns88 Před 2 měsíci

      Hard to say without doing a side by side. The R3 is giving an oversampled 4K image as well. What I would be looking at is how much sharpening is going on in a processed image. The C70 is known to have a softer image compared to many of Canon's camera's. Not sure how much sharpening is happening in a C400 image. I'd be interested to see how they compare straight out of camera though!

  • @baekmedier
    @baekmedier Před 2 měsíci

    The C400 is awesome!! BUT.. What i love about my two C70s is that the DGO sensor saves hightlights like crazy. almost like film cameras does it.. )im not impressed by the shadowns.. and I think thats where the dual native isos come in and win the race. I also own the R5C and that have dual base isos in c-log 3 at 800 and 3200 iso.. and its way cleaner in the shadows than the DGO sensor is.. but I like the C70 more. For me it makes no sense to "down grade" or upgrade depending on what you are filming. And if I was to, it would be to change one of my C70 to a C300 instead to get a A-cam C300 and b-cam C300 mark 3. We need Canon to kick Sony in the stomack by developing a camera with full frame DGO sensor with good rolling shutter. Sony is focusing on high iso and IBIS now.. Canon should go a different way.. Sony is more like RED.. and Canon looks more towards Arri (or at least they did before now)

    • @DaveBurns88
      @DaveBurns88 Před 2 měsíci

      That is a good perspective! I've never thought of Sony like Red and Canon like Arri, but I can see that especially with Canon using DGO sensors (sometimes). I feel like Canon is in a slugfest with itself trying to get everyone over to the RF mount. As of right now all of our cameras are RF mounts with EF adapters on them, and I'd like to move to the RF but it is just so expensive. Which I don't think is terrible, but from a business standpoint, no point in updating the lens when the lens isn't causing issues. We'd just be spending money to get to the RF mount, not like that is going to make us more money lol. Canon is just in a weird situation. Thanks for watching! I appreciate the comment!

      @@DaveBurns88 my thougts always goes like this: Can this product save me time in post 😅 - Or: can this product save me hassle and time when setting up for an interview. My thoughs about the C400 for my situation would only work if I sold my C70s and my R5C camera and all my EF glass and just got two C400s and two RF 24-105 f2.8 lenses 😆 It would give me less to carry around, and would take up less time in the setup process. But I like the DGO sensor in the c300 mark 3 and when Canon made the C70 I got two of them with speedboosters on and EF trinity + 4 primes 🫣 done deal.

  • @csteingraber
    @csteingraber Před 2 měsíci

    I wish there was some clarity on how triple base iso compares with dgo. Because it seems to not have like dgo which is merging hdr data every frame. When I bought the c300mark3 and the c70 came out right after for half the price im hoping for a full frame c70 upgrade honestly. Ideally a large format flagship model too. Im a big fan of the dgo it comes out so clean for someone not having to deal with raw. Right now my dream camera would be a full frame c70 replacement if it had dgo and eventually a large format version. Is that too much to ask for?

    • @DaveBurns88
      @DaveBurns88 Před 2 měsíci

      I was surprised they didn't go with the DGO sensor, I'm wondering if there are limitations on getting into a full frame camera. The CVP video shows some pretty impressive dynamic range out of the C400, so personally I'm not super concerned, but as with anything you have to test it out yourself. I'm so used to the DGO sensor that it might be a deal breaker for me as well. Thanks for watching!

    • @urielsantistebanfilms
      @urielsantistebanfilms Před měsícem

      Full Frame C70 will not happen. That’s the S35 area for Canon it would cannibalize this camera sales. It could, however, happen in a C300 Mark IV probably but I’m really unsure as well.

      Thanks man! If you are just trying to get your foot in the door, leverage on small local companies or someone you know who owns a business. I have gone by the rule that every business needs 3 videos: About us, About the product, and Testimonials. It is the easiest place to start with a business and when I look back on the stuff we have done, they always, in someway, come back to one of those three videos. Also, look for facebook groups that have filmmakers in your area. One of our contracts came from a FB group of wedding film makers that worked in corporate, so you never know where a lead could come from.

      Thanks for the question! I was doing creative development stuff for a company I use to work for and decided I want to do that sort of stuff on my own because we were using all of my equipment I had at the time. So I decided to quit but offer them a contract that I would continue to do what I was doing but separately. From there I just took a few opportunities at lesser pays to show other companies that I could make videos for them. After that I just aimed to keep 3-4 companies on retainer at a time and that provided me enough financial freedom to not have to work for anyone and keep making videos. So now we get some one off videos every year from other companies and I aim to give them a good experience and then offer them an alternative to 1 video contracts and to look at a years worth of content and we will make it for them. Companies that I work with like it because we are there video people and they can trust we know their style and what they want. Makes the process of making a video easier for them, they don’t have to find someone every time they need/want a video.

      Thanks for the comment! I use mostly Matthew's stuff - Roller Stand: Matthew's Medium Overhead ; Low Boy: Matthew's Low Boy Combo ; C- Stands: Matthews and Neewer ; Boom Arm: Matthew's Mini boom. I mostly use the roller stands because I can set up the light and just move it to different set ups provided there is enough room and because it can support 88lbs. The low boy's are great for small setups that aren't moving around, most people use them for dana dolly set ups. The mini boom is so versatile, it just gets rid of any fear of hanging something on set that has to go overhead. I usually pair it with a roller stand because of how large the base is on the stand. You still need to balance it, but it is definitely worth the purchase. With my 600 I've never had any issues with any of my stands, I still put a sandbag on, but usually only need one.

      There are a few bigger companies in the Philly area that eat up a lot of the big big corporate stuff. I aim for small to medium size businesses and run a retainer model for everyday business stuff. I try to keep 3-4 businesses under that and then one off shoots for other companies that may not be large enough to do 1+ year contracts. There definitely isn’t a shortage of work but also is a game of who you know. Everyone is putting out good stuff so businesses have a great offering of who could shoot something, it’s just a matter of who mentions your name.
