Great video! Love this game so much ! Will you shoot another video about the uprising expansion ?
@@letoxam hey thanks for the kind words! I don't think so, given it's not on BGA. Making videos on BGA is by far the easiest way I've got to talk about boardgame strategy atm
Super helpful! Love your clear explanation. As a newbie to GWT I learned so much from this video!
@@MostVictoryPoints I'm glad you enjoyed it! Keep playing GWT, it's an awesome game
MY experience of the last two games I played differs quite a bit. I had experiment A and tried to follow its plan. But I lost by a mile against a player with experiment D, who completely ignored his experiments objective... Also in my opinion income, especially whalers, is very important. You can't put down buildings without it, you can't buy tiles without it... I wish you would explain your opinions in the video a bit more... I m still struggling to get the game. I am so bad at it... I usually put down 4 or 5 stars, because without much income I am not able to make my turns very long...
@@SaschaKleiber I should post a new video. I changed quite a bit my view of the game with experience. As stated at the beginning of the video, this was more a first take at strategy than anything else. If you want to glimpse some of my updated opinions on Nucleum strategy, you might check out the videos I made about the single experiments :)
@@UpUrPlay got it, thanks Mario. Are those also beginner friendly? ;)
Excellent discussion! I also enjoyed the discussion about Experiment B. I was wondering whether there would be videos about C & D.
@@CATPLANET24 there will be a C one for sure whenever I get the time! :)
Hi, thanks for your videos I really enjoy them! Are you planning on doing video on an experiment 3 in Nucleum? I really liked the first two but I and my friends always struggle with playing well with experiment C.
@@janskorepa92 I've got plans for C! I just need to find the time for it ;)
@@UpUrPlay Thanks :) looking forward to it
Well, obviously.
Wow. Watching that video really paid out. Thank you so much! Your tips helped me to win this game for the first time.
@@SF-gy8zo good job! And thanks for the kind words :)
what program is being used to play?
@@kitsune4635 hey there! It's boardgamearena, a popular website with a lot of board games implemented. Check it out, it's awesome!
Thank you for your insights! Have you played Pirates of Maracaibo? I really like it. Very interesting decisions while being a bit lighter game
@@NoGeist hey thanks! I've playtested pirates a bit, but I'm more keen to play heavier games. I'm glad you liked it though, it's a neat piece of design
This is helpful. I’m always second guessing some of the layers to my strategy (and there are so many layers in this game!). One of my favorites. Any more collaborations in the works between you and Pfister?
@@uxjared layers and layers and layers... And so much to explore! Yep there's actually one big project we've been working on for the last two years, let's see if it will see the light of the day in the future :)
@@UpUrPlayWhat?! oh man! I hope so! Something new or an expansion?
@@uxjared something new!
Awesome! Enjoyed the Boonlake expansion so 🤞🏻
One of my favourite games! I'm still fairly new to it, so this guide is helpful - thank You :)
@@OnufryNiecnota you're welcome! Let me know if it helps you get better and better :)
It’s a me, Mario. ❤
can you also do a strategy video for GWT : Argentina too? i already read your guide in bgg, but struggle to win ( especialy with engineer ) never beat cowboy with engineer ; (
@@Ngmeta Hey you know what? I thought I did, but I didn't! I've just recorded a video of my first impressions. It's up onto the list now!
Thank you for you research in this great game!
It's a pleasure! A whole guide video is in the cooking, stay tuned :)
Congrats with your daughter! Today in going to play Darwin Journey for the first time.... You have helped me with maraciabo before, I hope this will help me too. Thanks
Well let me know!
@@UpUrPlay Unfortunately, we played with the 2 of us instead of the 3..... But I think it's a really fun game, unfortunately I lost, but I played against someone who has played the game before... I made a few mistakes, overlooked things, otherwise I could have gotten more out of it
Ciao Mario. I recently bought Maracaibo in order to play with my friends, as I'm very little interested in playing solo. I wonder how much of playing vs Jean is correct while playing vs humans ... TY/Grazie 🙂
Well part of it stands true (unlocking disks, having a decent pace), but a lot isn't. I have a video in the cooking for the overall Maracaibo strategy. But while waiting for it, maybe you should check my video on the rankings of all the Maracaibo cards :)
I sure will, ty a lot 😉
Amazing video, thanks for sharing
Thanks a lot! Hopefully I'll be able to upload a game of it too in the future
go pass an hour, please. Make over explain playthroughs!
Hey! I have a question - does all prestige buildings are known from the start? On physical copy we just uncovered them in the turn scoring
It's a variant, one I'd highly suggest!
This game looked like 80% of my last game of Barrage I played on Sunday. We had 3 of the 4 same xos and 3 of the same nations. I was playing as Italy and had Krilov and I snatched the same structure contracts and built dam on th esame spot. I won with 184 points and the person behind me had 101 points and the other ones 88 and 79.
Hah it must feel good! :)
@@UpUrPlay yup! I read all your posts about barrage on bgg and I really like them and admire your effort to write them. There is one thing I just have to disagree a bit with you - the early production. If you managed to snatch on the free build contract (preferably base or conduit) it's a must for you to produce energy and this way unlock income on the first round.
@@radip I would never say that it's a "must", but it's one of the ways to make early production work, yeah. And thanks for the kind words!
What about experiments C and D? :)
I'm taking my time to build up expectations! 😜 I'm joking, as soon as I'll be able to record it, I've got C ready. D is going to be tricky, it's probably the experiment I'm least experienced with
Hey Mario! For me Nucelum is just a barrage with extra stuff. Nonetheless, it's a fun game :)
I think barrage is a superior game, design wise. But Nucleum has the length of the game that is determined by players, which is something I really love (think about gwt, Maracaibo...) so the feeling is different, and I'm loving it atm
Thanks so much! Great advice to the beginners
Thanks! After all these years I think it helped the community a bit. It's probably the video I'm most proud of
Everything is fantastic about this, except for your audio! Hurts the ears a little, no expert so i have no suggestions on how to solve <3 Thank you for the guide!
Hah yeah I know. I've fixed my equipment and the new mic works real good. Maybe I could think of recording this video again with a better audio
I really love your strategy videos on GWT, they're so good! I've learned a lot from you and have had my eyes opened to what is possible as a strategy! Your original GWT strategy video really unlocked that game for me in terms of fun (after all, nothing's more fun than hitting that bell on the train track!)! Some constructive feedback I have: please get a headset or even just a pair of earphones, the audio will be much, much better.
Thanks for the kind words! And you'll be pleased, I got myself a new headset a few months ago. If you're into it, check my most recent videos, the difference is stark:)
Will you be doing any new GWT content, especially for New Zealand? I'd love to hear more of your thoughts, like in your "How to play Cowboys/Builders/Engineers" videos for the original game!
@@Planerary I might! Right now I'm really into Nucleum, Maracaibo and Terra Nova, but I still play GWT in its different shapes
Interesting video! How are you able to choose 2 Industrialize actions when you are using the ? Tile, which only gives you one action?
Thanks! You should take one industrialise action from the ? Tile, one from the tile that also gives you a worker, and a third action from the level 1 third tech that lets you industrialise anywhere on the map
@@UpUrPlay ah so you are explaining an opening over various turns, not what to do first turn. Will watch video later, now only watched it so far. Thanks!
Hi Mario, this video is great. It provides much more information than in all other "walkthrought" or "how to play" or "tips" on YT combined. I have really enjoyed it, watched it multiple times while playing the game and getting own experience. Only at one point, I have to disagree. It is your statement about sheaperds needing an extra way to convert coins into points at minute 33. I found this to be not neccesairy. If, for example, i am on the sheep market with full five sheaperds and many coins, i simply buy more sheep more expensive. 20 coins on the market? No problem, I buy two of the 6-point-sheep. This could be better then to try to pull off a second strategy for the last two rounds. - I would really appriciate to watch some competitive GWT NZ game play videos, as you did for GWT original.
Heh it's not going to be easy, but I was able to play some on stream against high rated GWT players. Let's see if I can get one on YT in the future ;)
Maracaibo is on BGA now, would love to see some more content if you can spare the time!
I'm planning on doing exactly that! Hopefully sooner rather than later
@@UpUrPlay Sweet! I think there's a demand/need for a good tips/tricks/strategy video given it was just released on BGA. I searched CZcams and there's literally nothing. In fact, the best one I found was your super old one for beating Jean which was awesome and I'm trying to apply to my multiplayer games against real people. Can't wait!
Tranks a lot, the best and deepest content in deeper games
That's a very warming compliment! It's comments like yours that makes me keep doing videos!
Are you buying cows with engineer and if so which ones? Any other worker buys (2 builders/cowboys).?
If there's a Simmenthal available I always consider buying it before the first reshuffle, if it's doable without crippling my plans. Otherwise I might get a value 3 cow if I got a cowboy that I'm going to leave on a station later on, but I might also play without cows at all
Ok. Where do you aim to deliver at Kansas cities and how do you increase your value? Just certs perm and temp? What do you upgrade?
@@iantaylor2331 In engineer games I normally go 0, 4, 6, 8, 10 12 if I get SMT. If I don't get many of them and I don't plan to get certificates thanks to buildings in hazard spots I go twice to KC and forfeit the 12 delivery. It's not easy to talk bout it in a vacuum though, it depends a lot on the read I have on the game
That was great! I played with experiment A last night and got beat so looking to implement some of these tips next time. Oddly, I thought I was doing great. Before my first recharge action, I was able to place my level four turbine and mine and get my building tech online to crank out a couple buildings. But I had such a long turn that I think I got outpaced. Maybe I shouldn’t have played so many action tiles before my recharge. I’m finding it really hard to know when to recharge!
Grasping the pace of the game correctly is definitely important to understand Nucleum and win often. Such a hard skill to master though!
Hi Marco, thanks for sharing this. While the Combat and Explore strategies need no explanation, I am not sure what you mean with the Synergy and Card Spamming strategies. Could you explain ?
Yeah of course. The synergy cards are the ones that activate thanks to synergy tokens and provide income (in coins and/or points) at the end of the round. A card spamming strategy is a strategy that attempts to play lots of cards, most of the time thanks to discounts (Master Builders) and assistants providing extra village actions
Really good explanation for the true beginner! Also, thank you for explaining in a way that doesn't require seeing what you're talking about. Helps when you can only listen to the video. 😁
I myself love to listen to CZcams videos while driving, like podcasts. I'm glad it can work with my videos too!
Bro scored 70 points and thinks he’s an expert of Arnak lol
Bro comes up with a random comment that has nothing to do with the video he's commenting on and thinks he's funny and bold
Been waiting for one of these on Nucleum!❤
I'm happy I obliged heh
2018 is old now?? 😂 Your videos are great though.
The world of gaming goes by at a breakneck speed! :)
I own a physical copy. I have already written a review on BGG, it is the third one in the review section, my user name is shayan_sa (seems my comments contining links get deleted)
Thanks for the video! Maracaibo is my number one board game, and I have played it around 70 times now. I had never looked at it this way! very fun!
Well 70 times are a lot! Did you play it irl or online? I'd like to hear your thoughts on the game, honestly :)
Thank you for the beginner guide, just wished a better micro audio.
Yep, I got a good headset now. All of my most recent videos were recorded with it. If Darwin's going to be ported on BGA I'm gonna record a new video!
Love your videos! Hope all is well with the new kid
Thanks for the appreciation! Well it's 4am in Italy and I'm awake, so...yeah, all well :)
boardgamegeek.com/thread/3179507/full-strategy-guide-gwt-competitive-player
Where is the link to strategy guide you mentioned? Also cool video, thanks.
You're right, I forgot to text it!
I want, no, I demand more! :D
Ask and you shall receive. Demand and be stuck with nothing
Nucleum is a marvel. I want to add to the chorus requesting another video!
Next one is going to be a Maracaibo video probably, but after that hopefully Nucleum is on the line :)
I have just finished watching your playlist. Thank you for taking your time to do this! Arnak is an amazing game. Do you recommend any games thay have a similar feeling to this one?
I think arnak blends the theme and the mechanics pretty well, so it's hard to say. If you'venever tried it, you should get El Dorado. It's a classic, and while on the lighter side it's still interesting and challenging. It's a bit old though
What is it in your opening that informs you which strategy to go for? Eg what would trigger you to go sprinter or warrior.
It depends a lot on my opponents ' moves, eg are they going for an early assistant or are they going for compasses to explore, and on the items I'm able to get, eg I get pickaxe to climb the track or I get like automobile to explore
I don't get it. It's a net zero difference, you use two cards to get two cards. The rope itself could have been an item that actually produces a resource so isn't it basically a blank?
I wish you would finish a video series :( With Arnak and Architects you stopped before you explained the good stuff.
And with gwt too! It's a bit hard to do because I don't have much time for videos in general these days, and the series of over specific topics don't get many views and interactions, so I get a bit disheartened and record something else instead. But I feel you, not finishing stuff stings me too
@@UpUrPlay I can't understand that! The in-depth content is what no one else is doing anywhere, it's totally unique content. If you wanted to do some longer videos where you discussed several things it might save on editing and it would be fine for most of your audience.
@@forsakenquery this is actually what I'm planning to do for Maracaibo, and your comment reinforces my will. I'd like to do some kind of rank all cards video
@@UpUrPlay do a tier list like everyone else ! 😺
This is great! Nice job 👍 Just learning the game now and playing solo.
Thanks! If you're a solo player you might check the BGG page, there's a guy who posted a solo variant that's faster and more intuitive
@@UpUrPlay oh yes, I have seen that! My brain is a little fried at the moment on bot rules since I just learned the official one haha but I really should check that one out. Have you tried it?
@@deemich1815 nope, I'm not really a solo guy, especially if the bot is too convoluted. Maybe I'll try this new one in the future, but I'm not planning to right now
Thank you, Mario! How would you rate this version compared to the the original GWT?
The original GWT is a tight, interactive, balanced and very competitive game. It's still my favourite one even after all these years. On the other hand NZ is more laid back, stuffed with many shiny things that make the experience very different in each game. There are more viable strategies , but the overall game isn't as tight. I think if you're an explorer kind of gamer you might actually like NZ more than the original. Me being me, as a competitive player, the original game is still unparalleled. But I play NZ a lot since it's so much fun
