I must confess, I got no where near that level ...

Can you measure your motors pully outer diameter for me, please?
Hi. I have the same lathe dated 1984. What a great and accurate lathe. Thanks for sharing.
Good video! Thanks.
Just found your channel and Subscribed. Very nice lathe
Until viewing your video I was shying away from lathes with an L00 taper. Thanks!
It would be easier to balance vertical on it's side. The heavy end will go towards gravity. But you also have a belt that can cause vibration. Irregular sections like a rough roadway you'll feel. Sometimes all it takes is to warm up the belt by drilling big holes and put some pressure into it. Once it's warmed up it's more flexible and you'll get less vibration.
If you need a new variable speed pulley, Speed Selector makes pulleys that replace the Reeves, Hi-Lo, TB Woods and Lovejoy pulleys that went out of business or got bought. Most are in stock or Speed Selector will custom make if needed. They have an actual engineering department; very helpful.
Why does your cog belt drive stop before the variable pulley drive ( on the motor) stop? Mine doesn’t. In your video it looks like it stops before the motor stops spinning when you turned it off. ?? My Clausing ( same system) doesn’t do that . Why does yours?
ATF has, what they call a “friction modifier”. It’s pumice or like pumice. I doubt it will hurt anything anywhere on or in the lathe; but I thought you should know
Can you tell me where I can buy a replacement blade ?
Español por favor
Do you know what the shaper weighs and if you can take it apart for transport? Thanks
11 years ago I know but if your doing this you should put down some wet towels to protect the ways from grind dust , wet because you don’t want a fire .
Very clever, top notch idea.
I've got a 5914, a '69 I believe, Thanks for the video, I've never "tapped" on the chuck to seat it so I need to check it knowing what you've shown. I have the collet chuck too but, I would like to go to an 8" independent 4 Jaw. Mine came with 2 sets of completely trashed sheaves so, after finding out what what it cost to replace the sheaves with new I changed to 5-step pulleys and am really happy with it.
Hey JD, glad you got something useful from the video. Newer chucks will get the most improvement from the lead hammer seating method.
@@ltousig Thank You.
nice
I found one recently as well, have you found the manual?
South bend shaper and hamms beer, a man of good taste!
Excellent! Thanks for the comment!
When I bought my Prazi in 1991 a centrifugal switch inside the motor went bad within a month ... Prazi dealer (Rutland Tool in Houston) wanted me to purchase the whole motor ... I opened the motor and ran wires to the front of my Prazi and connected them to a momentary contact switch I added...Its been working on that swithc for 31 years now..
Que posibilidad hay de tener este manual de esta maquina gracias
I restored a Walker Turner just like that. I wish I hadn't. Whew. The stamped blade wheels were warped, so I bought some salvage spoked wheels. The wheel covers were full of cracks, but the aluminum was too full of impurities to be welded, so I riveted repairs in place. The blade tensioner was cheap and cracked, so I got a craftsman salvage part. And the table adjustment parts are not very robust either, but still working. Sometimes the old stuff is not what it's cracked up to be. In the end, it all works well again.
Absolutely agree, my wheel covers were cracked too and the table adjustment worked but only just, very poor quality alloy in its casting.
Looking for info on a Hardinge vertical I have, can you help?
What’s the diameter of the motor pulley?
VFD make and model?
Wondering same thing.. I have this exact mill
Can you add a double sided chuck
That's some stupid review considering the positioning of the camera
Thanks, I'll try to do better.
You probably won't read it but I just wondering where the tires came from
Can I see a close-up of the treading chart?
Hi John, That lathe sold shortly after the video posted, sorry..
do you still have the lathe? could you take a picture of the info plates thread cutting info and gear combinations thank youi
That is my old lathe. I had to sell it when I moved to a home with a smaller shop. When I bought it the gear cover was missing because it had a collet closer. It bugged me that it was missing so I found a replacement on Ebay. That's why the numbered paint is on it. Right after I bought it I repainted the base. Very nice machine!
Good vid -
I have the same lathe - I can't figure out how to increase/decrease the speed of the spindle - is there a way?
I love it. Thanks for sharing!
Hi I found a MD65 on a scrap heap took it home and it still works I am missing the pulleys is there a chance you could measure out the pulleys for me if you don't mind
Hi tashwill, The lathe was sold quite a few years ago. Sorry I can't help you. There is probably a Prazi lathe user's group out there, suggest you contact one of those groups for the information you seek.
Which pulleys do need measurement ? I have an MD65 from hobbymat (and also the BFE65 mill)
@@Compasscardall 3 please
You pick feed rod is bent. It should straight
Well worth the 3000 price tag.
I just got one of these! Really helpful video. I've never owned a shaper so it helped seeing how to adjust it.
Hi there I have the same band saw at home looking for new tires. What one did you get for it .
Nice saw. How much was it sold for?
Hey Lucas ive been watching all of your clausing 5900 series videos because I have a 5914, but I can't find any vids of it running in back gear the reason I ask is because my machine is in really good shape and im only the second owner but its pretty noisy in backbgear almost sounds like gears are grinding almost.....it works great and never gets any worse im just wondering if thats normal or should I open it up......also thanks for the video on seating the chuck on the taper I couldnt figure out where I was getting 1/2 a thou run out on my collet chuck..I used your method and now the needle doesn't even flinch.
Hey WW, Just saw your question, the back gear should not be noisy. You can message me directly in Instagram if you search for MinuteMachinist
These are still out there.. I picked one up a year and a half ago brand new. The previous owner had purchased it and took it apart to get down in his basement and never put it together. It was still covered in the cosmoline and has the power feed option on the table. The only thing that was bad was that it had the brown and sharp number two instead of the r8 spindle. The head was completely taken apart but still all new, never run, never made a chip on it. I suspect he took the head apart because he wanted to upgrade it to an r8 but this was back in the sixties so he probably couldn't find the parts. Anyway I found it at the garage sale and I paid $100 for it. So don't stop looking a deal may just fall on your lap. Also a buddy of mine had a later model Burke Mill that he just had the head completely rebuilt on. I gave him a Bridgeport j head that he adapted to his Mill and he gave me his freshly rebuilt head which is now on my machine. I plan to reassemble the original head with the brown and sharp number two spindle and put that on my Bridgeport CNC that has an M head right now. Projects projects projects...
U still have this jointer???
Is this still a available??? Or shoot me a email jpmorso@hotmail.ca
thats a nice bandsaw..heavy duty one.
I can't get it to lock in the wood mode, only the metal mode. Any suggestions?
Thank you for making the video. Very well done. I have an older model of the same lathe that uses v-belts for the spindle drive.
Have the closed base version of this bandsaw from 1977. Just did a complete tune up and added the original style fence.... Loving it
Lucas do you use Lucas gear oil in crankcase
Good video thanks. Can you cut lefthand threads on it ???
Hi Ernest, Yes, you can cut left-hand threads on most lathes. What you do is to cut a relief groove in the workpiece at the location where you want the threads to stop. You then set your threading operation to thread right when the spindle is turning the normal direction (CCW when facing the chuck). You start with the tool in the relief groove, then engage the half nuts just like you do for right-hand threads. Threads will be cut from left to right, resulting in left-hand threads.
@@arnjones6028 I am not where I can look at my lathe now. I don't think there is a was to reverse the lead screw. on mine. I will check when I get home. I am a snow bird.
Thanks for posting this. I am setting up a belt grinder and at the 1hp motor will have a 6" single sheave pulley. The motor runs super smooth without the pulley and once I put on the pulley there is a noticeable off balance. It is a Congress Drives aluminum pulley. I'm going to try your tip here. I can always remove the weights if they don't work so it is worth a shot. But I got a feeling that it should work.
