Let's be reasonable, Alastor couldn't have killed him. He tried to hit him with his miserable black tentacles which only grazed Adam. That means he's not powerful enough to do that without using a special weapon to kill Adam. On the other hand, at this level, even without the angelic weapon, Adam could have knocked him out if we imagine that Alastor did not dodge his blows (judging by the force of his blows and his powers without the angelic weapon).

I didnt notice untill now but I love how Alastor looks composed and polite, even gentlemanly. However, his shadow is poised for battle as Adam broke the dome.
