How to remove MTB shock mounting hardware WITHOUT specialist tools

Just a neat little trick I came up with to press my shock mounting hardware out, so I could do my own air can service at home. I hope it’s helpful for others out there!

Thank you very much. I followed your advice, with two modifications, and it works very well. The modifications are that I didn't create a channel for the metal strip on the top (horizontal), only on the side of the battery (vertical) where the tab is located. I also wonder if it's really necessary to extend the strip along the entire top. Perhaps halfway is sufficient to ensure a good grip. I used super glue as an adhesive, instead of the product you recommended.
I'm extra pleased to hear you've improved upon my idea! Hopefully as different people try different variations, we end up with the best repair method. The main reason I extended the metal strip all the way along the top of the battery is to give it plenty of surface area for the glue to grip, so it's less likely to ever fall off if the glue starts to age / fail. But you may be right, I may be overdoing it. Anyway, good to hear you managed to fix your battery!
That is a sound solution you have come up with there. Yet again the bike industry creates a "solution" to a problem to generate more sales. They (SRAM) feed on the got to have the latest and greatest mentality.that seems to thrive in the cycling community !!! I have a bike with axs etap whilst it changes gears nicely, it is not really that much better than an equivalent mechanical derailuer that is well setup. It does not warrant the price difference in my opinion. My AXS came already on a bike that I bought, I was really looking for a mechanical shiting bike, but this one was the one on the shop floor at the time that fitted me the best. I had a rapport with that bike shop so the pricing was sharper than I would have got elsewhere. As part of my spares that I now carry a spare coin battery for the shifters, I have had this go flat once. At first I could only get the shifter to go to harder gears before I realised double push on derailuer button drives it the other way. I recommend people testing this at home so they know what to do if the coin battery in the shifter goes flat on a ride. I routinely check battery status with the app but this did not alert me to a flat shifter battery before my ride.
Good suggestions! I agree with you about electronic shifting being unnecessary on road bikes, but I really appreciate having it on my mountain bikes now, where the bike is constantly getting muddy, and so water and dirt can quickly work their way into the shifting cables / housing. On a road bike, cables should be fine for most people, but the other issue here is that lots of riders don't know how to adjust their cable tension, so electronic shifting is a good option for them too. But especially now that SRAM have done away with the derailleur hangar, the new Transmission derailleurs shift very very well, and I can't see myself ever buying a mechanical groupset again.
@@bencebon I have mechanical shifting on my mtb, and have no problems with it, it shifts we all the time. I do regular maintenance and routinely replace cables etc The newer types without hanger concern me a bit, because it may place more force on the frame in the event of a crash. The hanger is sacrificial, the weak point so it gets damaged and easily replaced. I have not used the new direct derailuer mount set up myself, just some observations from a design perspective.
Nice 👍
I love stevejobs I love apple 🍎
I thought that it was a broken screen on the left side LOL
Surprisingly, on the apple website, it say the new mbp 14 is 0.01cm thinner than the m1 mbp 13. It just feels and looks thicker because of the edges. Can you confirm?
Assuming you don't need extra performance, which do you prefer? 13'' or 14''? I'm leaning towards 14'' but since it looks almost twice as thick as the 13'' I don't really know. The 13'' looks more portable and better for travel.
Feel so bad for how crazy your Government has treated you guys during this pandemic.
Old one looks much nicer
You definitely should do more research before coming to conclusion. new 14-inch model is thinner than the old version 15.4 vs 15.6 mm
Thanks for the comparison. And of course it’s so refreshing to see a consumer review rather than cool-wanna be youtubers doing the usuals. I also think the design is a big step backward. Seems like lid belongs to one design and chassis to another. And this “function over form” thing is a fallacy. A product can be both functional and properly designed. Congrats and hope you enjoy your new purchase
did you pick the 14-inch base model? Didn't get that on the video. Great one, btw
this is great! thank you for uploading bro
❤️
I like the old much better, with Touch Bar, keyboard arrow buttons and butterfly feel, and laptop thinness, much much more elegant.
luckily you belong to a minority
Very smooth, buttery smooth presentation from customer perspective with a touch of simplicity.
What about the weight?
Good question. Yes it’s a little bit heavier. On my kitchen scales, the old 13” is 1358g, and the new 14” is 1617g.
@@bencebon Cool, but the real question, is it as portable as the old one? or do you feel not as comfortable to move around carrying it?
@@germanllop it’s fine to carry.
@@bencebon Thanks, I'm about to find out in a couple of days, I needed to feel both, I'm changing my MBAir 2019 wich is light as a feather
Is there a big difference between the speakers of the 14 and 13?
Good question! I haven’t compared them yet, but the new model has a new speaker design which is supposed to provide much richer sound.
Oh my gosh, its design is absolute disaster 🤦🏻
Yeah I’m not as excited about the shape as the old one.
@@bencebon I reckon, when Jonatan Ive left the Apple some of their designs have been changed
Finally a good chasis for cooling
Yeah I’m excited about this new cooling system.
Thank you a lot for this review
Glad you enjoyed it!
The New macbooks definately have a lot of power, and a much better display. Especially blacks now look closer to real black. With the other Macs its more like a dark blue ish color. However I honestly don't like the New design at all. The blacks keyboard is nice, but it the device just looks so chunky and heavy compared to the old Version. Also the HDMI port looks pretty wrong on these devices. I mean, design whise this looks horrible, an SD card slot would have been enough. I have my MacBook connected to a Dock via one cable, which connects it to my external monitor, my SSD s and also charges the MacBook at the same time which is pretty cool. I hope Apple will soon make again devices, that look more like premium devices, than this one. Because the old design in my opinion was pretty much looking perfect
Can only agree ! But as I said higher if from now on MacBook Pro means function over design and MacBook Air prioritizes the design and thinness that’s a good thing I think… But if the new design of the MacBook Air is ugly as well (or white with a bezel 🤢) I will be very disappointed
Yeah I’m with you 100% on that.
You didn’t get a braided cable? I’ve seen other people get it.
Yeah. Ijustine got braided one
@@j0ps-xfx I know. But I thought it was standard. Hopefully I get one.
Yes it’s a braided cable, might just not be easy to see in my video, sorry.
@@bencebon ok 😀
7:55 "I better shut her up" 😂 that was so funny
Yeah Siri can be so bloody annoying! 😂
I hope it looks thinner in person.

@@bencebon Lol.
Thanks a lot. I believe your unboxing has been the most genuine so far! Others do not seem to unbox the sealed ones.
Awww thanks mate!
It looks very thick
Yeah not Apple’s nicest design, that’s for sure.
@@bencebon how do you feel about the notch? how it behaves..can you do a video about living with that Notch in a Professional computer?
@@kasvith it really doesn’t bother me. I LOVE this screen, especially the narrow bezels. I don’t even notice the notch, it’s not where my eyes are looking when I’m working.
Anyone else watching this waiting for theres to be delivered today....
lol yes
Something to be said for doing an actual initial impression without editing, effects, and the “youtube speaking voice”. Great video! 🤙🏽
Thank you! It’s my first attempt at doing something like this.
Finally a true UNBOXING 🤗
Thanks man!
macbook pro releases and freedom in the same week feels good
Mate you're so lucky to have got yours today, same city and mines gonna take till December
Bummer. I got up for the live event and ordered straight away, around 5am.
Thank for sharing the unboxing. The 13” actually hides it’s thickness by have sharp side profile above a bulge in the bottom. The Mac embraces it, and also has more pronounced feet to raise it from the table higher and improve airflow.
True, but the new one is still thicker, and I was surprised by how much. As much as I love this new Mac, I think I prefer the shape of the older model.
@@bencebon I prefer the look of the older model too. I wonder why Apple went down this route. My best guess is Apple has gone for function over form, and the new MacBook's shape somehow helps with thermals. It also looks thicker and rises off the table more, thanks to its feet. Apple claims the 13" body is 0.01cm thicker than the 14" though. Pretty certain they're excluding the feet. At the end, it does look thicker, it is heavier and has absolutely prioritised function over form. Those looking to get every last drop of power out of it will certainly appreciate that, and there's a lot to love about the new Mac for many more too.
@@obamtl Maybe they ll privilege function over form for the MBP and form for the MBA which will be thinner and prettier, in which case that would be great… But if the new Macbook Air is also thicker (or seems thicker) that would be a great deception for me…
@@bencebon nope, compare the specs. 1.56 vs 1.55cm ❗️
@@m-stat9 I don’t need to compare the specs, I have the actual laptops to compare!
New mac pro has such ugly design ever from new Apple designer Evans Hankey (she is far from design). Apple, pls return Jonathan Ive 2018 design, it looks gorgeous! It's thiner, lighter, top cap has curve to corners, and a new one is just FLAT. Won't buy this ugly mac. Looks like some toshiba laptop
Yeah I think I prefer the old design too.
The 'Jonathan Ive Design' compromised performance and thermals for that tapered design. It wasn't practical at all.
People who need/use a MacBook Pro truly don’t care about how “cute” it is. Yes, they may be a design/creative professional and care about esthetics, but this is a tool that needs to provide them the means to be creative. A small, slim form factor design is never going to truly allow that.
I’ve “suffered” from that Jony Ive’s design choices, when I first bought the 2016 MBP, the butterfly keys is inconsistent and most notably my screen just had the stage light issues after a year of using it, yeah it looks aethetically pleasing but nowhere near practical.
@@NOT_A_TOP_FAN fair enough, however when you spend this much of your hard-earned cash on a laptop, you also want it to look as nice as possible. Apple have always been famous for their aesthetics, even in their packaging. I think the surprise for me is that, while this laptop is a Great Leap Forward in terms of function, it seems to be a bit of a step backwards in terms of design. This is the first time I can remember a Mac laptop getting thicker!
An actual customer uploading their unboxing video? Good stuff!
Thanks!!
@Marcus Franz nice! Enjoy!!
It hurts to see u tap those things together
I reckon it can take a little tap!
@@bencebon they definitely can, it happens all the time in real world use. That sound is just so jarring, similar to when you're working on the same desk as someone else and the backs of the laptops scrape. That gives me shivers.
I know, it’s especially bad in my video because of the acoustics, every little noise seems to be amplified. I just recorded it on my iPad, so that’s probably the problem.
@@bencebon all good, appreciate the video anyways brother 👍
Good on you mate! Thanks for the upload
No worries! Glad you enjoyed it.
