They just need to stop making non-proportional rcs (even in toy grade). There are just too many good, and cheap electronics options for these cheapy cars that no manufacturer should be making binary steering or throttle toys. (Unless it’s under $10) This little guy would be an option if it had actual steering. Changing tires and fixing the suspension aren’t worth it when it’s non-proportional.

That OnlyRCs cup is fiiiire! That kind of truck is what I call a "Hotel RC" meaning when you are on a road trip with the kids and are bored you give in and buy a little RC to bash in the hotel hallways😅

Great video, nice comparison. I love the Ascent 18, bought 2 for $99 each. The Evo Pro is $168 and performs better with a brushless esc/motor than the other 2 and the FX118 is too expensive at $199 even though it's 2 speed, I could see it for $179 but I'm a cheapskate. The FX118 has the best looking body, but all 3 are nowhere near the type of scale detail I like on my rigs. I 3D printed an 1965 F100 body for one of the Ascent 18s I have and the other I put an SCX24 1967 C10 body on it and they both look great now and are a blast to drive.

Ended up with a Thunderstorm and a Colorado not a bad haul. The livestream post sale they said it was going to be mostly all EazyRC with some Rochobby so i knew where to set expectations. I think i made out ok

Cool find, You COULD run it but be aware that the old plastics will be very brittle and the old tyres will most likely not last long. Time is not kind to old plastics and aged tyres. I was given a 5th scale RC car recently that was made in the mi 80s. Had Mabuchi 540S motor and powered by 7.2V NiCd battery. Radio was 27MHZ so cannot be used legally any more in UK. I fitted new 2.4GHz receiver, brushed ESC and fitted 2S LiION battery pack. Motor was noisy and very weak so replaced motor with a modern equivalent of same physical size. On its first run even though I Was being very careful the brittle plastics started to give up pretty quickly. Before the battery ran out rear tyres came loose, rear wheels cracked and split so the wheel hex just spun round without turning the wheels and steering links fell apart. : As it is not a rare 'special' car You could run it gently and when it breaks it's no great loss. Just be ready to pick up all the pieces and glue em back together so it can sit as a static model. If I still had my old original Tamiya FOX I would tidy it up as a static model but would not run it. If I had my original RC10 that would be rebuilt with upgrades and run for fun.

Yeah interference is not fun, experienced that about 10 years ago, broke my hsp 2.4 ghz radio when i tipped it over off a tv bench moving some stuff around & killed it, had no throttle & steering only, even if i swapped the channels around only one side worked which isn't great for having control of the truck. (Cheap one off a hsp rc 1:16th scale truck which i no longer have at all.) Id give it a go but do a range check with a friend walking off with the car or swap electronics out ofc as new technologies these days can really mess with old rc's like these. Decided to test the 27 mhz radio & receiver i had sitting around in my brushless e-firestorm, and it took off into a tree like 2 minutes into running it breaking the front bulkhead & a front a arm. If you want some new rear tires for the Nikko frame buggy i believe it's the same size as say the Tamiya Grasshopper & Hornet which are still re-released today, you can also if you tear this down hobby grade convert it pretty easily & also put ball bearings in the gearbox. As for power a 7.2v nimh pack is standard in these, this frame buggy uses like a 35t 540 i believe, but the electronics should handle a 2s lipo ok as well if you keep the runtime too like 5 - 8 minutes before letting the electronics & motor cool down, especially as it's vintage things are worn down & aged, but thankfully not impossible to repair or upgrade. I don't know if its been swapped out for a bit faster 27t if that's something you remember doing perhaps, but it was a pretty common upgrade, even listed in the manual there the Mabuchi 540rs. Some people back in the day picked this up or the Radioshack branded Golden Arrow over the hornet or grasshopper and ran a 27t 540 in them. Nikko also used a similar chassis but as a truck rather then buggy, the Nikko Scorpion. At least the early versions does use a 540 motor before later getting a dual gear ratio & a 370 motor. Actually have another rc which is a 1986 Tamiya Boomerang i found at the electronics container at the recycling center we swing by daily at work, was painted horribly with i think oil paint rather then hobby paint of some sort so its stuck real good too the bodyshell and doesnt crack but is layed on thick & the combination certainly isn't my taste lol. Green wheels, yellow rear wing & a orange bodyshell with the blue decals screams 80's rc race car that needs to be distinguished at the track next too 3 - 4 other identical buggies. Which suffered a similar runaway (Broke front bumper mounts on the chassis & the front bumper mounting points on the bumper opposite too the chassis curiously enough, i found it attached with electrical tape wrapped around the chassis too keep it running along with the front shock glued back together.) But that may have been the receiver batteries running too low. Back when mechanical speed controllers were a thing they commonly did not have power diverted too the receiver but only went too the motor itself, so many had a 4x aa battery pack plugged into the receiver, usually wrapped in tape to handle bumps & jumps that otherwise would have a battery or two pop out & the car out of control.

glue some cut up bits of anti-slip mat to the base of Your obstacles to keep them from wandering off, a fairly large mat is super cheap and works really well.

So just my 2 cents. I really feel like if you were to just base it off ability Redcat wins. I think the line choices were a little different and you could have rock hopped onto the stairway to heaven obstacle. I do feel like you need to gas your way into and out of things more with the Redcat because it doesn't have the commanding slow crawl like the other 2. Before I purchased my Redcat a buddy( with more disposable money than me) brought over his rigs and the 2 that were still stock at that point were the Evo and Redcat. The Redcat, obstacle after obstacle could not be stopped where there were certain limitations that we found on the EVO. Keep in mind this was just us messing around on my indoor course and out and about outside ,but I could not believe how great the Redcat is out of the box over my axial scx24s that were modded. Just blew me away. So of course I bought one that night lol. The Evo is great but I really feel with wheels and tires and making the Redcat brushless the Evo wouldnt stand a chance ( i added tires on this example because I feel the Evo has better stock tires) Anyhow great comparison they are awesome platforms. I haven't gotten to try a fury wagon yet but hope to soon. Keep up the great videos and ill keep a watch out for the 5th rig!
