The Comments column for the is new video looks a bit sparse, so let me begin... It is stated the video was shot on June 22, 2024. Exactly 80 years earlier (June 22, 1944), my father's log book reveals that he flew his 16th operation to attack the V1 site at Siracourt, Pas de Calais. He was a 578 squadron (4 Group) 20-year old rear gunner baed at Burn The squadron operated the Halifax III. He and his crew completed 40 operations, after which they were all awarded the DFM and gazetted. He told me once that they had an exemplary record of bringing back photographs of the target being hit. Indeed, the squadron motto reads "Accuracy". On that day of June 22, 1944, he was flying in Halifax LK-J which was piloted, not by the usual captain, but by the squadron CO, Wing Commander D S S Wilkerson, DSO DFC - a very popular man with both his aircrews and ground crews. Wikipedia provides good detail about the V1 bunker at Siracourt.

Did my basic training there in 1971, and had my first and only flight in a glider.

Deenethorpe has gone from strength to strength over the last few years thanks to Mick Hyde who took on the reigns from the previous "occupier". It is now an excellent airfield with fantastic facilities, a 10,000 ft runway and it is planned to hold the world microlight championships there next year. I learnt to fly there 20-ish years ago.

The worst jet to ever fly in RAF service... 1,800 crashed or destroyed in accidents killing 450 British pilots.. Chief Air Marshall Sir William Frederick Bowhill called the Meatbox qoute; _"a most dismal and lackluster aircraft"_

Very interesting…. I have several books about the WW2 airfields in Norfolk (and Lincolnshire etc.), and there are some before-after vids/books. But no one has done drone vids of before-after (e.g. with superimposed labels on points of interest). A new opportunity?

If you want to show your videos to many people then you need organic promotion for your video. It will definitely be your targeted location. Filmed at at altitude of 395ft with a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced on 28 May 2016. Debach was the home of the 493rd Bombardment Group during WW2.

Filmed at at altitude of 395ft with a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced on 15 July 2016. Waterbeach has had a number of unts and squadrons throughout its life, it was last used by the British Army as Waterbeach Barracks and closed in 2013.

Visited this airfield both on the ground and by light aircraft. Very visible from the air and on the ground. And a memorable memorial.

There must have been an awful lot of water in there judging by the amount of corrosion on the metal work, particularly the actual light fittings . . .

First flew over here in a Robin 200 in 2016. Very clear from 1000 ft.

Flown over 2 years ago in glider and powered aircraft. So many historic airfields in this area.

Was this the American section of the base? It looks really familiar as I worked there in the 1980s/early 1990s.

My father in law worked on this airfield during the time the / 100 th bomb group was there / Roy cotton Also found very pistol in the ground which I had cleaned up and it still had the shell still in the gun after all these years Will bring the gun back to the airfield we’re it belong could be this year .? I think Roy would like that he found it and by returning this pistol Can go to the museum with his name on the gun and as a worker for R Mann on the airfield during the time the U.S.f. 100 bomb group was there They were a bomb group that went on a mission and very few cam back / were called / the bloody hundred // from the heavy loss of life /// And the times IV been there over the years I can say // yes it’s a haunted airfield // becouse it was the crews last place on earth the airfield they took off from and there has been significant signs of airmen walking about and waiting to go on there mission
