I have an 88' Supra and HAD a 94' Camry with 71K miles. The Camry was by no means a beater, it was nice, but I wasn't worried about it either and kept it up to spec. Didn't take me long to realize I would literally have that car the rest of my life and I didn't want to spend it in a granny car, so I sold it and tricked out an 01' Celica GT-S which is now nice enough that I totally worry about it. I think I did this wrong lol.

I’ve been driving a 2005 Buick Century to and from work. The car isn’t great but it’s reliable and inexpensive to own. I’d rather save my money for emergencies and retirement than spend it on car payments.

I laugh at people that go out and buy a new vehicle and they actually drive it back and forth to work and let it rot in the sun instead of buying a beater to drive back and forth to work. It will always be cheaper to maintain two vehicles than one new vehicle.

Bought a 2011 Ford Taurus w/124k miles for work. Did an entire tune-up myself (fluids, brakes, rotors, struts, belts, hoses, plugs, ignition coils, tires, AC recharge) it runs like a top with 140k miles now.

Honestly if your not a person who knows how to work on your car, EVs aren't a bad idea for a daily driver. Much less moving parts so less things to go wrong, and no concern for emission testing.

My first mod was getting rid of those stock wheels. This car produces so much brake dust and cleaning was getting lame. Went with Apex VS-5RS' and never looked back.

With being a new owner of a M2 comp, I did the Turner Motorsport catback and did the M4 GTS flash tune through MHD and a Stage three stage tune via xHP. I would say keep your cats as the factory race cars are still using cats and make good power. I decided to do the GTS tune because that is the stock S55 hp for the GTS so that’s just under a stage 1 tune meaning that the crank hub won’t be affected by it and I track my car often and want it as reliable as possible.

Do you mind sharing the info on the salvage transmission shop? I have a B8 S4 that has the same problem.

They're good cars. It's the best of all words with everything and really is a drivers car. Wait until you lower it a little bit and go on a windy road or a curvy on ramp. You will shit on everything around a corner.

I was actually looking into a $54,000 2020 M2 Competition a few weeks ago and Carvana quoted me for a 9.4% APR with a 780 credit score. I'm not putting any money down. I always finance through Wings Financial. I've financed my 2015 Lexus RCF from them back in 2020 for 5.9% with 0 down at 72 months. Financed 52k, sold it back on March 2024. Made money to down for the next car.

You do in fact not pay taxes when you borrow from your 401k or stocks as long as you pay it back on time. That is tax exempt. Just like a bank loan isn't income, neither is a loan from yourself.

Congrats on the new ride. Refinancing is your friend. Unless you just feel good about paying higher interest, just refinance the vehicle. Doesn't matter if you are paying it off in two years or four. Your rate should have been almost half of what it is currently. Deciding to be willfully ignorant is different than being completely oblivious. All the best to you.

Glad you are paying it off in 2 years. Yes, financially, it's not optimal to be taking a loan out on anything above current US Treasury rates; certainly something I wouldn't do myself. But you are right, it's not my money.
