Top 5 Custom Knives...what are yours?
The only spydie better than the Manix 2 is the Manix 2 XL. I prefer full sized knives and the 3” of cutting edge on the regular Manix is just a bit small for my preference. The xl has another 1/2 inch of blade while simultaneously improving the blade/handle ratio. The swell at the base of the handle is more prominent on the xl which REALLY locks my L/XL size hand in place and imo improves what was already nearly perfect ergonomics.
@@goodnessgraciousitellya5004 I'm really glad that the XL works so well for you!
Serious Manix 2 collection! I haven't been able to find a choice for this one because of all the different designs and blade types and I don't know why Spyderco doesn't have a build your own option when it comes to their knives? I don't like the idea of knowing I would have to modify the knife and spend double the cost to get it to where I want
@Layzboyedc Agreed! That's why the Manix 2 lightweight is fantastic because it's good to go without any upgrades 👌
Just got this bad boy in SPY27. It’s awesome. So much blade and handle for the weight. Also the scales feel way better than FRN. It’s my favorite Spyderco I’ve owned. Bye bye Para 3 LW 😂
@@tacosaretasty So glad to hear you enjoy it! 😄 Have fun with Spy27. I haven't tried that steel yet.
Where did you get these deep carry wire clips for the LWs? Been searching forever for those (they need to be the right length to hit the flat portion of the handle - the sage or Spyopera ones don't work).
@viniciuseleo I got these from the Spyderco Foundry model. It's discontinued now, but I ordered a few from the factory outlet store. They fit perfectly. Maybe they have some left you can buy! 🙂
@@dk210913 Amazing! Thanks a lot!
As far as drop points go I'd probably have to go with Manix 2 leaf or something like the Kizer Cormorant or Sencut Brazoria with a low tip and a place to get your finger near it for maximum control if needed. Typically I roll with sheepsfoots and wharnecliffs for edc though.
@Circa1664 I agree! I'm planning to do a video on wharncliffes. They are one of the most useful blade shapes
i always buy two of what i like ! one to rock one to stock… some will double in value ! but will only carry one at a time
Manix Salt is excellent, I own one along with the 15V. However, would have loved it if Spyderco also offered a G10 Manix Salt with the grippy handle scales similar to the PM2 Salt.
Great video but would love follow up videos focusing on why you would choose this knife over other Spydercos- PM2, Shaman, Native, etc. Thanks!
Tisk Tisk 😅
I carry a stretch 2 XL g10 cruwear, and a Native 5 LW serrated edge MagnaCut. Daily. And a sub compact 9mm.
I don’t carry my Benchmade infidel mini anymore. Spyderco 4 life! Lol.
NO NO NO. DONT DO THAT! THATS a 2A statement lol. Two is one and one is none. THATS the reason I can’t stop buying guns LOL I already REALLY like Spyderco knives. lol. I got a Manix 2 and then ordered 5 more while I was waiting for the Manix to show up. Now I just ordered a Para3 LW because 6 is 5 and 5 is 4 and 4 isn’t enough apparently. lol
@@Ryan.S924 There's always one more knife 🔪
Yup, fell down the Spydie hole in 2020. 160 Spyderco’s later I’m starting to sell some of my “doubles”. It’s a serious addiction and expensive one at that. BOLO for that!! 😅
@@DuhYaThink Jesus dude!
@@DuhYaThink wanna trade me a para 3 for my Benchmade Infildel mini!?!
@@Ryan.S924 Can’t stand Benchmade. I’ll probably be waiting a while to sell anything. But once I do I’ll most likely put what I’m selling on eBay and Blade Binge. I’ve never even sold a knife using any technology 😅 I’m pretty much technology “retarded” as I don’t do social media and I really don’t care to learn any of it. But I will get my daughter to help me one of these days.
I will not say of course and spoil the surprise of which one have a good one
Yeah for the money its a no brainer really. Nice collection brother just searching for new fellow knifetuber brothers to help out.
I carry a heavy use knife and a slicey knife daily. I also carry a traditional. The exception is Sunday when a more elegant choice is better.
I carry three a heavy, slicey and traditional or fixed blade. The traditional or fixed blade is the loaner.
I enjoy the Manix 2. Applied Weapons Technology scales and Flytanium Ball Cage with Ceramic Ball really up it.
@@rustyknifelover4463 It's great to have upgrades!
My first wire type clip was a milwaukee razor knife and I knew they would end up on a lot of edc. They don't tear up your clothing like the others
@brians.4488 They certainly are great clips! FYI, Spyderco actually invented the wire clip :)
"Buddafucco" on the forum is amazing at posting alert threads for upcoming releases, and updating them as retailers list them. "RamZar" is the one who posts and maintains the yearly recap threads. Ive never not been able to get a sprint/exclusive/flash batch that i wanted at retail when using one of the resources on the forum. Have you ever tried the Domino? Its basically a 95% scale, framelock flipper Manix. Unfortunately, its also plagued with the issues that all early Taichung bearing models had, but its an easy and worthwhile fix.
Stretch xl g10 cruwear is a great knife. Along with police 4 lw k390 and Native Chiefs are some of my favorites. And g10 manix 2’s.
I had that XHP lightweight version i remember they were 89.99 on KC. Definitely regret selling that one
@StoneHands25 Hopefully, you can find one for a reasonable price on the secondary down the road!
Manix 2 didn't even need to watch this. I beginning to think my next couple of knives are a spyder co salt manix and not sure of the other maybe a para 3. Not found of blades much over 3 inches for a edc pocket carry
@brians.4488 Para 3 is a good choice also, so is the Sage! 👌
Manix is great. My only complaint is they take up so much room in pocket
@MrTJohnston I've been pocket carrying one for so long that I don't even notice anymore. I notice when it isn't on my person lol
U just missing the maxamet….
And Spy27,M4,s110v,s90v,20cv 52100,s30v,bd1n…..many more.
I could certainly be wrong, but i don't think BBB is from Texas. Im almost positive he's from/in the PNW area.
Really like the LW versions of the Manix 2. Love the way they carry. I have a Rex 45 with white scales and a Spy27 with blue.
Great choices! You are right; they do carry well.
depends solely on how the folder is built , bearings - no washers - yes lock type has a significant influence on whether i would use it for a hard use task. all that being said .... if its a point of having to use it to perform a hard task or possibly perish ..... ill destroy the hell out of a $1k knife to baton some wood for a fire.
Nah. Ball bearing locks all have the same catch at the end, right before it closes. Not care for them. Compression locks are the way to go.
Compression lock…MEH
Lighting is not great, colors are nearly indistinguishable.
Thanks for watching! :D
It's like a small shaman. And it fits most hands, plus different steel types. I envy your collection my dude. I got a crazy spyderco addiction as well.
Thank you sir!
I totally agree with you on the spine whack test. I used to think it was bullshit until I cut my thumb really bad with a Miguron Elgar. I didn’t think I was doing anything stupid, but in hindsight, I shouldn’t have done it on a knife that I wasn’t 100% familiar with yet. I was just using the back of the blade to stuff some plastic wrap boxes on a pallet that I was wrapping. I was holding it in a reverse script when it failed on me. The blade came down on the tip of my thumb and went about a half inch in, causing my thumb to like a snakes tongue. Just finally healed up from that exactly 4 weeks after it happened. After that, I decided to spin whack the knife a couple times to see what would happen. And wouldn’t you know it? Even with white taps, the lock failed every single time. I had purchased that as a work knife due to the thick blades and the S90V, but now it sits in my display case and probably won’t see use. ever again. I guarantee any other knife that could handle a harder spine whack than that would not have closed on my thumb. It wasn’t like I was abusing it, I wasn’t even putting much pressure on it so now I understand why the spine whack test is important. Especially for a work knife
I'm so glad you've healed up and that it wasn't worse! I also commend you for seeing the importance of making sure a knife doesn't close on you. Thanks for sharing your experience and story! 👍
@@dk210913 no problem! Thank you for making this video. I’m trying to pick out my first Manix 2, and this helped a lot. I think I’m gonna go with the Magnacut, seeing as though Dr. Thomas actually helped with the heat treat. I did not know this. I was already interested in the Magnacut, but that little tidbit sealed the deal for me! Magnacut Manix 2 LW with the Original Goat aluminum scales sounds like a great idea
I got one of those storm trooper
Since there seems to be a trend for knife CZcamsrs not to leave a trace as to what knife is the subject of the video, not in the title or description I will honor that trend and not mention the subject knife by name. I agree its my favorite for sure. I bought the Smock in great anticipation from all the rave reviews but found that the subject knife got carried way more. The subject knife remains my favorite.
Manix 2 is my personal favorite spyderco as well. It's an amazing knife as is, but throwing some AWT linerless scales on it makes it a whole other beast. Love my manix 2
I have to be honest, I bought a set of AWT scales for my PM2, and the fit was atrocious to where the blade actually grinded against the scale. It wasn't my first time taking one of these apart and putting it back together. I tried to remedy it, to no avail. The company ignored me altogether when I reached out to have them make it right. I'm not a fan of them or their products.
@dk210913 That's unfortunate. I've personally only had one experience with them, and it was great. Their scales were even better than expected, and they shipped fast. With that being said, I didn't have to deal with their customer service, so I can't personally speak to that. I've only heard great things about their products, but they've only been on my radar for a year or two. Hopefully, they've ironed out their issues because the more America knife options, the better
@@WillLiam32 I agree! I'm glad you like them, though!
I love the manix, but like with a lot of spyderco knives, too much of the forward choil is on the blade vs the handle of the knife
I understood where you are coming from. I'd even agree. However, the Manix 2 has a good finger choil built into the knife handle, which works beautifully, in my opinion. It is one of the exceptions to the rule I believe.
I have a Para 2, 3, Shaman and even a SpydieChef. But I don't have a Manix 2. I heard a lot of good things about it. Maybe ill get to it and pick one up. Definitely would like one in magnacut, but they all look pretty nice regardless. Those would look sweet in some titanium scales. I know the knife community is crazy about titanium, not everything has to be in titanium but it really does make the knives feel different. Heavier, but just preference. I am just not a big fan of G-10, on some occasions its perfectly fine. I guess I just don't like the feeling of it at times. FRN isn't too bad though, lightweight.
Pick one up in Magnacut, then you can buy aftermarket handle scales for them in titanium through Ripp's Garage Tech, and others. The lightweight model has screws and not pins anymore so you can easily disassemble👌
I bought the lightweight white with satin blade in REX 45. I like your collection of Manix 2 knives.
That's a great pick! Thank you very much! 👊
FRN = Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon (which is a polymer)
@Arkie407 Thanks! I honestly confused myself lol because I know Spyderco uses different polymers like the FRN, FRCP, and maybe abother.
I don't have any exotic flavors yet, but If I had to pick one knife forever......hard to beat this one.
GP Knives has a white Rex45 satin blade manix 2 lw for $107. Right now 👍🏻
I think the lightweight specifically is the best. Truly amazing knives.
I couldn't agree more!
Very cool! Black on black kg wow!
what’s price of Koenig?
that koenig is beautiful
Totally agree blade show is more about stroking your fellow mans blade and whispering sweet nothings
Very nice choices!
Thanks!
I definitely agree that some knives have the point of the blade to close to the end of the scales. I have one or two that are like that. Poked my hand on a few occasions cause it's a tip up carry. Wish I had the tools to make a back spacer.
Absolutely! There's probably some videos out there on how to make your own. I'm sure you'll find something!
I only own 4 knives, but they are all AWESOME! Winkler Crusher Belt knife with rubber handles, TOOR Kingpin, Field 2.0, MUTINY. Have a great day!
That's great! What matters is that you enjoy them. Thanks!
