Marine Astronomical Navigation - Video 37: Meridian Altitude of Moon
Marine Astronomical Navigation - Video 37: Meridian Altitude of Moon
Celestial Astronomy is a very interesting subject if understood in a correct way. The teachers are responsible in a big way to make it interesting or otherwise. Even the non mariners might find this subject interesting. Capt. S.S. Chaudhari, who has been teaching the subject for last 30 years, works on this series of videos to share his knowledge and motivate the young marines. Capt. Chaudhari in this video does a numerical on meridian passage on Moon. Latitude by mer-alt involves calculation of mer-pass time of Moon to find the precise time so that the correct declination may be used.

Love From Bangladesh🇧🇩 sir
Sir it would be of a great help if you just simplify the sight taking methods which we usually taking onbaord . Like these days we having 2-2 GPS DGPS onbaord and brg from gyro and how we can take proper care for eliminating the errors with sextant while taking sight observation. I firmly blv no one in this world could have explain complex astronomical calculations and concept in a simpler way other than you sir. Very much excited and awwaiting for the sextant video
Thanks. I will try making such video.
why to multiply midship draft by 6 in mean of mean draft?
to give more weightage to the mid part of the ship rather than forward & aft. The ship's form is more full in middle.
@@capt.s.s.chaudhari5181 🙏🙏🙏
Clearly understood .. Thank you sir .. Sir expecting a proper demonstration Video on Sextant
Sir is this a Intact stability criteria specially for container ships, request if you can provide source for special criteria for container ships
Intact stability code 2008. Container ship more than 100m or ships with the large flare.
Nice explanation
Thanks and welcome
Thanks
For damage stability calculation at any point of time among the two methods any one can be considered ?
To satisfy damage stability criteria, IMO uses constant displacement method.
@@capt.s.s.chaudhari5181 thank you sir
No one could explain this concept better than you sir ... Extremely Satisfied .. You are very kind to us.. all these videos are nothing more than blessing for us.
Thanks for the good words @snehasishpadhi1490
Absolutely Fantastic Concpet
perfectly demonstrated
Excellent Explaination sir .. BTW i have once doubt .. While calculating Wet Area why the Area for column of water (Sounding pipe) was negleted?
Because the effect of height makes all the difference. So, because of theorem of parallel axis and the slight difference in denominator by slight more area will not make any much difference.
Fabulous Explaination sir
Supurb Explanantion ......
"I found a free website where you can perform various calculations for Draft Survey, Trimming, Ballast calculation, etc. for free. Anyone interested? It's very convenient that a maritime website for work has appeared."
Hello Sir, learning from books and now from video, it’s really been helpful and understanding the concepts for the topics. Sir can you do more dry docking topics or stability topics . Some more calculations
Thanks. You may send the specific queries if any. I already have about a 100 videos on stability.
Sir, truly thank you so much for your unwavering support towards our young aspirants 😊
Thanks for the good words.
greetings Sir What if one intercept is away ?
Plot correctly. T for T and A for A and place GPs correctly. But when moving the PLs move all of them towards the respected GPs or move all of them away from the GPs.
I understand at ×0.75 vedio speed
Thank you captain sir
Thank you sir for good understanding parametric rolling. Doubt regarding conditions favorable at 7:44 where its metioned PP=WEP, is it not that PP=RP.
PP is half of RP. Whereas, RP = WEP is condition for sync rolling with waves from side.
@@capt.s.s.chaudhari5181 thanks sir for clarification
@@capt.s.s.chaudhari5181 so sir am I right if I say; For parametric rolling to occur either PP= 1/2 RP or PP=RP in head or following seas. For synchronous rolling to occur RP = WEP in beam seas. Please clarify Thanks...
Sirji, how did you convert KMt to KN?
KN = GM if G is at keel which means KN = GM + KG SIn Theeta.
You are not making clear calculation plz make it clear the BM Calculation parts.
Thank you sir
Thank you sir. Short to point best explaination I have been looking for.
Excellent video sir
Thanks for your brilliant explanation! You are doing a truly great job for people worldwide. Could you give me a prompt, please, what the abbreviations Mgy, qgy stand for? In the context: …the heeling moments due to grain shift Mgy calculated assuming the standard void depth … and …the angle of heel due to grain shift qgy is not greater than 120 … I will appreciate your clarifying! Thanks in advance! With kind regards from Russia!
The volume of wedge shifted x 2/3 of the breadth will give VHM in meter to the power 4. Now, the vessel's list must not increase more than 12 degrees or a smaller angle say deck edge immersion given by administration due to assumed shift of grain.
Thank you for sharing❤
Great explanation
Thanks
Sir from where do we get the own rolling period of the ship i.e. value of T0
Measure it when ship continues to roll while the influencing waves have died down or are non significant.
@@capt.s.s.chaudhari5181 Got it sir, thanks a lot.
Great videos sir . Thanks a lot for the guidance 😃
Thanks
Good evening SIr.if the gyrocompass is tuned schuler tuning there is no N/S speed error.the is only damping error.
N/S speed error is corrected by latitude and speed correctors not the Schuler tuning. ST balances error no 3 & 4.
Thank you Sir for your Detailed explanation ❤❤❤🙏
Thanks & Welcome
Sir could you please define ‘heave on to wind ‘?
Keeping the wind 4 points on P or S bow to prevent synchronous / parametric rolling / surfing / broaching to.
Thank you sir for the clearing the concept of PRM with simple explanation.🙏
Thanks for the good words.
Clear and concise explanation of the topic
Thanks for the good words.
Thank you for such excellent explanation which certainly would clear many doubts of even senior mariners. since I am an engineer and I have witnessed myself that pilots , while berthing, give a momentary dead slow astern and as soon as it turns on air , they stop the engine. So on Right hand propeller ship, they would do this to swing the stern towards port side to attain max lever with the ship at rest, thereby utilising maximum transverse thrust to cause ship stern to move towards port and bow to stbd side. Is my understanding right? Please give your comment , I shall be very thankful and look fwd for your reply Best Regards
Thanks. Appreciate. You are absolutely correct.
Sir good explanation. All your videos are informative. Thanks sir for giving us your valuable times
