Socrates in the City
United States
Registrace 15. 09. 2010
The Greek philosopher Socrates famously said that "the unexamined life is not worth living." Taking this as a starting point, Eric Metaxas thought it would be valuable to create a forum that might encourage busy and successful professionals in thinking about the bigger questions in life. Thus Socrates In The City: Conversations on the Examined Life was born.
Every month or so Socrates In The City sponsors an event in which people can begin a dialogue on "Life, God, and other small topics" by hearing a notable thinker and writer such as Os Guinness or Peter Kreeft. Topics have included "Making Sense Out of Suffering," "The Concept of Evil after 9-11,", and "Can a Scientist Pray?" No question is too big -- in fact, the bigger the better. These events are meant to be both thought-provoking and entertaining, because nowhere is it written that finding answers to life's biggest questions shouldn't be exciting and even, perhaps, fun.

In a public speech Frederick Douglass, the most prominent African American of the time, said that his people had no reason to revere Lincoln since everything he had done was in the interest of Northern whites without any real concern for the slaves, who had been left with nothing.
She was from a rich family in NK, she doesn’t understand anything that people went through, if you believe her, it’s just propaganda. Save actual people from NK and they’ll tell you worse things
Gosh I love these two men. Articulate and reasoned thinking. Absolutely correct in saying the left hates individualism.
when you've seen the darkest end of the tunnel, its quite easy to appreciate the brightest end, something most americans including myself can never experience or appreciate, kudos to this young lady.
All the make up on the face and nice cleavage and all the bullshit😂😂😂
20-30K°F... like Houston. Yes, Eric! 🤣🤣 It is one of the largest discoveries that could possibly be found, and what's best is that the biblical account on the level of destruction is directly in line with what is found. As much as 1908 gives us a great example of ~1700BC, Mt. St. Helens gave us great insight on how a rapid event could alter a landscape drastically, and how things like the Grand Canyon could get carved out in weeks or months during a global flood vs millions of years of a CO River. I love this talks; they are so packed full of wild tales, surprising finds, and some great Mataxas-branded humor. >>;=)
Absolute hunger games, crazy!!
Logical positivism is self refuting - only what is observed is fact
Who's gonna tell her?
The head of diversity in and itself is a joke, on top of that, a woman heading it??? 👏👏👏👏
Thank you for the video 🙏🏽
The story is so unbelievable to us Americans that we find it to be not real. When the Holocaust was occurring, the Jewish people who were imprisoned were in shock also of what was happening. The human reaction to this kind of treatment is survival. We all try to survive, this can happen here n America 🇺🇸 if we keep voting for what is happening today.
Thank you, Miss Yeonmi, for your courage to stand for truth. God bless you and every endeavor.
She is the kind of patriot we need! God bless her!
"choosing the economy over people's lives" ... but the economy is what delivers basic services and creates things like new technologies including vaccines. how do people not understand that? or is it just that people hear "economy" and their minds go to: profits, greed, capitalism, evil, .......
grift
Thank you Dr. Tour!!
The most beautiful and accurate definition of justice: I think justice is exposure. I think the sunlight is the justice. That is the accountability the people see. It's a cliche, but I think sunlight is the best disinfectant.
Where is the video?
I love Eric’s work, but I wish he wouldn’t interrupt his guests while they’re explaining things.

Chamberlain while in heat of battle, came up with the strategy to swing down on the enemy. It was a bold courageous move. So respect the Civil War soldiers in blue.
Kirk Cameron over there straight chillin'!
Ok. now she has all the habits of American culture.
Paul Harvey would be proud of Mr. Medved's telling of the "Rest of the Story". Definitely, it is a tragedy that what is taught in public school is an array of modified tales and outright lies instead of teaching the great and interesting things that happened. At the same time, we can't ignore or sweep away the darker sides of our history that we prayerfully not repeat them. The ironic thing is that most people (especially kids in school), find history awful boring, but if the real life historical details were included with the memorization of locations and dates, so many more people would desire to learn it. Public school makes learning anything awful dry and boring, and I think that's why so many struggle in school, because there is no thrill or interest included in what's being taught. When I traveled to OK back in Apr with a couple of friends visiting the various cultural centers of the native nations up there, it bamfoozled me how much the natives of America had with the founding of the US and in its first century. Things did turn south when natives started being kicked from their original lands, but for instance, some of our system of government came from the ways of Cherokee government, or how the founding fathers had input from chiefs and prominent members of native tribes while drawing up the Declaration. Something I never knew, was that the Cherokee were in tight with Andrew Jackson, at least until gold was discovered in GA where some of the Cherokee resided, leading to the Trail of Tears move to OK. Also, that Sequoyah, who devised the Cherokee syllabry and written language, was in the US military and served during the War of 1812.
Lemme guess. "Professor" Dave? Dude's an absolute hack. Dollar Store Shermer
Those who come legally to the country learned to speak English. This needs to be reimplemented.
A wonderful comparison is Lincoln with Stonewall Jackson wrt to faith. Tragically both were struck down and were victims of the war. Anyone know of a writer who has done such a comparison?
Seal Team 6= Wing Ding Ping Pong Poe gone!

What about when you actually import your values to rest of the world almost on every given opportunity
And children are fighting for it. They believe they know more than you and our servicemen.
Welcome to OUR country.
