@brunocerous The name Cecilio is taken from Italian. In Italian, the letter C followed by an E is pronounced Ch as in chair. The word Cello is a shortened version of the Italian word Violoncello. So yes, you're correct in using the word cello as an example.

The symptoms pointed to a failing electronic throttle module (ETM), which is a known issue with this era of Volvos with electronic rather than mechanical throttles. I sent it to Xemodex for repair.

I upgraded the strings, which made a big difference. I’ve since sold it and am now on my third cello, purchased from a local luthier, and it’s a world apart!

I ended up buying a used cello at Sam Ash, selling it and getting a decent one from a local luthier for almost $2k, and it has been a pleasure to practice on a daily basis. It does have real purfling and a flamed maple back!

@@brunocerous thanks! Wanting to get back into it after not playing for 10+ years. Had to sell my cello in my late teens & have been missing it. This looks like a decent starting spot for now until I can afford something better :)

My kid’s upright bass (and my electric bass) has geared tuners, but I haven’t seen them on a cello yet. I’ll definitely keep an eye out!

@@brunocerousGeared pegs for a cello look like regular pegs, not like those on a double bass. Also, the expense would be wasted on that level,of cello. My friends who have geared pegs love them but I do not. My fine tuners work just fine, no pun intended, and the geared pegs are fussy, need to go back and forth to get perfectly in tune. So take what random comments say with a grain of salt please.

@@mellocello187 Perfection-brand pegs came on my third cello, which I'm currently playing. It's nice enough to be able to tune with the pegs like in that photo of Pablo Casals, and it's making me think about replacing the metal tailpiece to a wooden one without fine-tuners. It's either that or a new cello bow!

My new cello came with Perfection-brand pegs, which seem nice enough. I'm a bit of a traditionalist and do miss the feel of wooden pegs, though.

@@brunocerous They do feel like wooden pegs but turn more smoothly & act as fine tuners. They also save the headstock from wearing out.

@@brunocerous They are a bit lighter weight than normal wooden pegs & they do save the peg box from wearing out, that's the most important thing. Wittner also makes a string winder for these types of pegs so that when you go to restring your Cello, all you need to do is turn the handle.

I also considered getting an electric cello so I could practice once the kids were asleep. I tried practicing with a mute, and I woke everyone in the house! 😂

That’s a good question! I paid $273.49 in September 2020 on the big auction site. It was the least expensive cello with a brand name.

@@brunocerous Well you are correct, that is very inexpensive. My cello cost $1,500 and I thought it was inexpensive.

@@maryoleary2037 I have since upgraded to my third cello, which cost $1,700, and it was the second-cheapest one at the luthier. I love it!

I thought it might be a little high, but it felt comfortable enough. I’ve since sold the cello and bought a slightly nicer one, which I had a luthier check out. 😊

They sound less tinny, but as a beginner, I think my playing style doesn’t show a huge difference in the strings’ sound. The a string is definitely less shrill.

You cannot put classical guitar strings on a cello. First of all, the guitar strings will not reach from the cello's tailpiece to the tuning pegs. Second of all, why??????!??!?!

@@marvinthemaniac7698 That's a good reason! The guitar strings are still too long, but I imagine you could try nylon fishing lines of varying lengths to get a similar effect. Fishing line comes in different gauges and can be cut long enough to reach.

Good question. Block the wheels, jack the car up, place a jack stand under the car (NOT a lifting jack), take off the right wheel, fold back the plastic wheel well cover, then put a socket and a breaker bar on the crank bolt. It's a 24mm or a 30mm nut, I don't remember which. Then turn clockwise (NOT counterclockwise). Hope that helps.
