How to Climb the Credit Card Ladder in 2024
In this video, I cover the 5 different tiers of the credit card ladder. Starting at the base, we have rookie cards, including secured and student credit cards. The second tier comprises no annual fee beginner credit cards while the third tier introduces credit cards specifically for travel. Then at tier 4, we have premium travel credit cards with hefty annual fees. And finally, tier 5 consists of invitation-only credit cards that are only available for 0.1% of individuals.
With that said, the credit card ladder is just a guideline to help you find credit cards that fit your lifestyle. Not everyone will have aspirations to reach the top, nor should they. Let me know what tier you’re currently in down in the comments!

How do you earn as a consultant?
The Amex HYSA, Capital One 360 Savings, Discover HYSA are the best options because they are with long standing banks that also have useful credit cards. Some other banks may offer higher APY rates but they are no name banks with a short history.

Thank you for such a clear explanation. Kinda new to the accounting scene so everything felt overwhelming. I'm a Data Science major with a concentration on Accounting Analytics so I feel that advisory is the path for me. But I heard that not being an accounting major can be a turn off to recruiters because they want someone who's CPA eligible and I do plan on becoming CPA eligible upon completing a MAcc post-grad. How do I market myself to recruiters? I'm scared that I look like I only half one foot in the door but I'm pretty set on working in a Big 4 as an accountant, but do more work in analytics later on.
No problem! The good thing is you don't need an accounting degree to work in advisory. If you're still in school, I'd recommend networking as much as possible whether it's through career fairs, alumni events, etc. It sounds like you're positioning yourself well already so just continue to express your interest and get to know people in your preferred line of work!

What were the reason you chose to become a CPA instead of sticking with finance? Currently debating whether to start an accounting or finance minor. Which do you prefer overall?
I decided to get my CPA license mainly for the credentials but then worked in consulting/advisory before transitioning over to finance. With that being said, if you are looking to either minor in accounting or finance, I think accounting is generally a better option because it really is “the language of business.” However, it does also depend on what type of career you are looking to go into.

If you're comparing the top finance jobs vs the top accounting jobs right out of school, your earning potential is greater in finance. However, as mentioned in the video, if you look at average pay there's not much difference
Thanks for an informative video. I have a question on Sofi. Can I deposit $5000 from my bank savings account and still be qualify for the bonus? Do I have to maintain the $5000 in the account to receive the 4.6% APY? TIA
The bonus is based on the amount you receive from direct deposits, which would not include $5,000 you deposit yourself into the account. Direct deposits are deposits from your employer, payroll, benefits provider, or government agency. In order to receive the 4.6% APY every month, you either need to enroll in direct deposit or make continued qualifying deposits of at least $5,000 throughout each 30-day evaluation period.

It honestly depends on the school, career path, and what you enjoy more. I chose both because they complement each other very well. With that said, I ended up choosing to pursue careers in finance because it was more interesting to me.
Id choose finance if I attended a top /target school and I’ll choose accounting if I go to a non target, because I’ll have a chance of landing a job after graduation 👍
